4G/LTE speeds in NZ - painfully slow

It looks like there has been some progress. Today I was getting download speeds of 40-50 Mbps. There was an update a few days ago so not sure if Tesla have made any changes with the APN etc. Speedtest still thinks I'm testing from Australia though.

JOLT 'freemium' chargers in NZ - what's the catch?

Not that I don't believe you but where did you get that pricing from? I couldn't find any reference to pricing anywhere.

JOLT 'freemium' chargers in NZ - what's the catch?

I hate this type of GOTCHA business model. These so called 'free' chargers are getting a bit of press exposure at the moment. But once people cotton onto how they really work there will be some backlash, which does nothing but give ammunition the likes of Mike Hosking and the rest of the...

JOLT 'freemium' chargers in NZ - what's the catch?

An Australian company called JOLT has started installing 'free' chargers around NZ. (Meet the Fleet - JOLT - Drive Electric). 'Free' being the first 7kWh per 24 hours. So about 7 minutes at 50kW. But do you think you can find out what the real pricing structure is? Nowhere on their website...

4G/LTE speeds in NZ - painfully slow

I'm pretty sure they are actually Spark SIMs. They have just set up the connection in the cars to use a Telstra APN. I would imagine that if they went with Spark they would just need to reconfigure the APN which they should be able to do OTA. @Matt_NZ seems to have a better understanding of this.

4G/LTE speeds in NZ - painfully slow

In the meantime, I would refuse to pay for the premium connection, even demand a partial refund for the poor connections they have had so far. I think they might make things happen quicker if they get several people exercising their consumer rights. You could easily argue that you are not...

4G/LTE speeds in NZ - painfully slow

So I did some more testing today and the results are a bit weird (see attachments): Inbuilt Tesla 4G/LTE: ~1 Mbps via Sydney Wifi Hotspot via 2 Degrees mobile: ~15 Mbps via Auckland Home Wifi: ~150 Mbps via Sydney I guess I should look up 'whatsmyip' in each of these scenarios to see where it...

4G/LTE speeds in NZ - painfully slow

What data speeds are people getting in NZ? My 2016 MS with MCU2 upgrade has become almost unusable for streaming when on cellular. The TuneIn radio stations constantly buffer (spinning circle), and lately Spotify even takes ages to load songs and play lists. Maps take ages to load. The mobile...

GPS Antenna Replacement - Cutting out rear windshield??

Hi @Aggmeister2010 . I wasn't sure if your 3rd party GPS antenna worked. In June you mentioned your has purachsed the GPS antenna off eBay and then August you mention that the SC are going to replace the factory antenna. But did the eBay antenna trick work? I'm having the same issue with my out...

If anybody wants free lifetime super charging you can buy my Model S. Imported from Australia before Tesla had a presence in NZ. Came with lifetime free charging. Think of all the money you'll save 😅😅 Oh....and lifetime free unlimited conectivity.

Tesla Wall Connector Charging Non-Tesla Vehicles? (Australia)

I can confirm the MG EVs (MG5 and MG ZS) have trouble with the Gen 3 chargers: https://www.mgevs.com/threads/connected-uncharged.4956/ https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/can-gen-3-wall-connector-charge-non-tesla-brand-evs-in-australia.240225/page-2

Can Gen 3 Wall connector charge non Tesla brand EVs in Australia?

Hi Ozee, I am in the exact same boat. And this has been discussed on the MG forums. I own a Model S and had a Gen2 charger that supported legacy mode. The Gen 2 charger did charge my partner's MG5 EV but it wasn't as simple as just plugging it in. I can't recall the details but you had to make...

TWC Wall Charger - Charge Handle - any one seen inside or know how to open it up?

Does anyone have any experience with the wall charger (TWC) handles? Or know how to open them up? I have a Gen 2 TWC that I think has a faulty pilot cable connection. Sometimes it does not connected properly with a "check power" message on the dash. Tacking a few twists out of the cable near...

Daytime Running Lights (DRL) issues - What options do we have in NZ?

Good advice. The issue is time pressure. Tesla have failed the warrant based on the DRLs meaning I have to get them fixed ASAP in order to be legal. If I had time I would import the headlamps myself ($300 to $500 USD each) and fit them. Can you point me in the direction of Rich Build? I think I...

Daytime Running Lights (DRL) issues - What options do we have in NZ?

Thanks for the kind words. I agree Tesla support has been very good in the past. The service manager (?) a guy called Michael that came from BMW has always been great. He fixed my cinch motor before they even had a workshop many years ago. He was NZ's first Tesla Ranger! But these days it's...

Daytime Running Lights (DRL) issues - What options do we have in NZ?

Yes it is. I imported it from Australia about 6 months before Tesla opened shop in NZ, around mid 2016. The deal was that my full warranty would be activated in NZ once Tesla had a presence. I have supporting documents for Tesla to this effect. And I have had two warranty repairs done in the...

Daytime Running Lights (DRL) issues - What options do we have in NZ?

So I got the estimate from Tesla to replace both headlamps because the DRLs can not be fixed on their own. $5100 + GST. This is complete BS. I'm so disappointed. This is clearly a design flaw, supported by the fact there are numerous revisions and the large number of people reporting the same...

Daytime Running Lights (DRL) issues - What options do we have in NZ?

If your DRLs show any sign a fading get the headlamp units replaced ASAP if you are still covered by a warranty. It seems there is a problem with the design of the DRLs in Model S's (facelift onwards). It is a common fault and they being to fail over time resulting in the whole headlamp unit...

Radio New Zealand (RNZ) on TuneIn - is it glitch for you?

I recently upgraded the MCU on my Model S (version 1 hardware) to the MCU2. I elected to not get the $800+ radio option. I used TuneIn for radio but notice that Radio New Zealand (RNZ) is quite glitch sometimes. Occasionally it stops and you have to reload it. And quite often you can hear it...

    Oneplus 6T Bluetooth Issues

I had the same problem with my Galaxy S9 and came across some posts that suggested a 'temporary' fix. If you adjust the volume just after you make or receive the call,, using the left scroll wheel, it restores the sound. Annoying, but it works for me.

Making homelink work In equipped model S/X/3

That's a real shame. I don't understand how it's any skin off their nose. Homelink (Gentex) have already made money when they built and sold the module. I don't think they any ongoing licence fees from Tesla. I'm not certain but some people have mentioned the Homelink icon appearing after a...

Making homelink work In equipped model S/X/3

You should be fine. According to the E8003 manual it can handle up to 34VDC: "Power. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 9-30V AC or 9-34V DC, 50mA" The expansion connector you mention is probably for a backup battery. So best not to use this. But check the manual for what it is for. Often...

Making homelink work In equipped model S/X/3

I asked them very nicely. Basically I turned up to the service center with the HomeLink module in my hand and asked if they would fit it. They said it was not standard practice and gave no guarantees it would work. Obviously I had to pay for the labor. They also had to re-code the car...

Making homelink work In equipped model S/X/3

One minor correction on my part. On the Garador GDO series the +V terminal is only powered while the door is in motion. This means it does NOT work for the Merlin/LiftMaster receiver as there is no power when the door is idle. I had to use an external 12VDC power supply. But I got it all...

Making homelink work In equipped model S/X/3

If you get a multimeter with fine tiped probes you should be able to measure the DC supply voltage between V+ and 0V. You have to poke it into the connector so the probes touch the metal connectors in side. I think most garage door openers supply 24VDC for accessories. I know that the Garador...

I just did some quick searching. Looks like the LIftmaster 850LM is identical to the E8003 other than the frequencies (310, 315 and 390MHz). The installation manuals are almost the same word for word.

So.....I purchased a US HomeLink module on eBay for my MS 90D which never had HomeLink at all (no module installed). I took it to the service center and convinced them to install it, which they did. They then had to call Tesla head office in Australia and get them to re-code the firmware to...

    Lte in Australia

I think he means it disconnects from WiFi. I'm pretty sure that is what is supposed to happen when the car starts up in order to force it on to the 3G/4G network. I recall the Tesla tech telling me about this quite a while ago. This: WiFi disconnects when I shift to D or R - always Marty

@mauri Did you get this working? I have the GDO-9 enduro too. But I don't have a Homelink module in my MS, yet. I am considering buying a second hand module and installing it, as other have done. Just need the service center to enable Homelink once the module is installed. But it would be...

    Add Homelink Module?

@bkp_duke What year is your car? I have had a look online and there seem to be a few different part numbers, but all Tesla branded: 1005371-00-A dated 14.0.13 (like the one you pictured) 1005371-00-B dated 22.08.16 1020147-00-B dated 04.08.16 I did find this which gives some insight into the...

    Superchargers in New Zealand

It's not that bad. And still considerably less than a tank of petrol. You can go from 20% SoC to 90% on a 90D for around $20-$25, which is roughly the same as spending $100 on petrol. Certainly not going to 'kill' you. Also, ChargeNet's destination chargers (e.g. at Auckland city carparks)...

    Superchargers in New Zealand

Hi Rod, welcome to the world of Tesla. Great to read about your road trip. Tesla NZ should really provide owners with a list of essentials: 1) CHAdeMO adapter 2) Type 2 to type 2 cable, which you will need for many public destination chargers. Type 2 socketed is the new NZTA 'standard'...

Vector maps for AU/NZ? Anyone got the yet?

Just to get the thread back on topic.....I have some great news. This morning I got in the car and there was a release notes message on the MCU. It was blank, as in no release notes. I thought that is weird, especially given I did not initiate any software updates. And there was no...

    Why do you use TeslaFi?

I used it to log work versus personal travel using tags. It has an 'auto tag' feature which is GPS based. So every time I drive to or from work the trip is auto tagged as work. It's by far the best vehicle logging system I have used.

Vector maps for AU/NZ? Anyone got the yet?

From what I can work out most AU and NZ people are slowly getting the vector based Google maps on the MCU, including MCU1s. But no one in AU or NZ has the new navigation software (the bit that reads out directions and displays on the instrument cluster). The new navigation software on the...

Vector maps for AU/NZ? Anyone got the yet?

You're in Sydney right? Does it say 'Tom Tom' on the map? And do you get the blue street names on the IC? Just asking because I thought I had vector maps. But it seems they are just grey scale bitmaps. It may be the NZ vector maps are not ready yet.

Vector maps for AU/NZ? Anyone got the yet?

I got the 2018.24 update a couple of weeks ago, and the nav maps changed to the grey style maps. It seems these are supposed to be vector style maps according to European and US users. The new vector maps are supposed to work on MCU1 systems: MCU1 Vector maps. When? But apparently the new...

    Superchargers in New Zealand

What sort of charge rates (km/hr) are people getting at the Auckland supercharger? I tried it the other day and was only getting around 160km/hr or 31kW. I was the only one there. I understand that they are set up in pairs (1A/1B, 2A/2B etc) and that the power, up to 120kW is split between...

Do new Model S's and X's in New Zealand come with the web browser enabled?

No. My Model S never had 4G. I think mine only has the 3G hardware. Even when my own SIM worked it was only 3G.

Do new Model S's and X's in New Zealand come with the web browser enabled?

When I imported mine from Australia, before they were open in NZ, I had to supply my own SIM that was installed in Sydney before they shipped the car. It was a Spark SIM that I had to pay for ($50 a month). About 6 months later it stopped working, as did all SIMs for imported owners. Turns...

A reboot did kind of fix it. But I have had the login in issue return on two subsequent occassions. I'm pretty disappointed with the media player. TuneIn is almost unusable with frequent 'loading errors'. Some podcasts flat out refuse to load. I keep hoping software upgrades fix it. But...
