    5th wheel towing?

I’m telling you now, there will be no 5th wheel/gooseneck towing with this truck. Clearance is just not there. I agree 14k at the bumper is useless on a half ton truck. The trailer will be pulling the truck all over the road at the first strong crosswind or lane change.

This truck design had better be a joke....

For real. Contrary to popular believe that the overwhelming majority of trucks are pavement princesses, a large amount of truck buyers use their trucks for work. The only reason for the perception is that the general public only sees them at the grocery store. How much time do the general public...

This truck design had better be a joke....

Honda did it with the second generation Ridgeline which is also a unibody. The first generation had the angled sides and they changed it to the regular flat sides for the second generation. Why? Major customer complaints and low sales. They pointed to the same structural issues as the reason...

Two Questions for Those Who Were There

Zero chance of towing a 5th wheel or gooseneck. The bed design will not allow it.

    Storage in "Sail Pillars"?

The sail pillars should not even be there. They are the biggest problem with the truck. Makes it look horrible and you have no side access to the bed, severely limits the aftermarket tradesmen equipment you can fit, can tow a gooseneck/5th wheel, and huge blind spots. If they could be removed...

Made a couple small changes to the Cybertruck. Thoughts?

Lockable storage would only be reduced by about 25% and it would not have a very big impact on range. Flat sides would be a huge benefit.

    5th wheel towing?

Towing 14k should be a 5th wheel or gooseneck anyway as it is. Very few bumper pull trailers are even rated for 14k because you should have stepped up to a gooseneck by that weight. Umm people don’t want to have to have a semi to pull some decent weight. That’s why class 2-5 trucks sell so well

    5th wheel towing?

Zero chance of that. You can thank the angled bed sides for that which is my biggest problem with this truck.
  9. theboom1

Made a couple small changes to the Cybertruck. Thoughts?

What???? It add massive functionality. The current design with the angled bed sides kill a lot of the functionality. No access to the bed from the sides, no gooseneck/5th wheel which is needed towing 14k, can’t add toolboxes/welders/other equipment, restricts visibility. Having the bed sides...

Made a couple small changes to the Cybertruck. Thoughts?

Too bad. This is what it needs to be. If they can’t get reasonable range with it like this they need to delay it until battery technology is ready. To the op, I LOVE it. This is exactly what it needs. Range will go down slightly but 100% worth it.

    POLL: Will you buy?

This is a HARD pass. I really wanted Tesla to hit this one out of the park, but this is just horrible. For one it look disgusting. But to me, there are a few very key details that they utterly fail one. The back seat head room is way too low. Many trucks require full sized grown men to sit in...

    2 ton death machines

Why would you need a license at all? If the computer wont let you crash then there is no need for a standard license program except for maybe the most basic rules of the road and even then some other system could be figured out. Also the point of the system I mentioned is that there would be no...

He also said at the end that he doesn't think that these people that want to ban it will actually succeed nor does he agree with that position. I think he realized that he went a little too far in trying to please his autonomy investor audience and walked it back a little. I think the eventual...

Is it possible that AVs will never be as safe as human drivers with ADAS?

I think the eventual end game for ADAS is simply the full self driving software still running in the background even when your driving and when it detects significant mistake, it will subtly but instantly turn itself on, fix the problem, and then fade back off. This way it allows people to keep...

    Hub motors, will it happen?

Thanks for the responses so far. Anyone else have any thoughts on it? What about not just for the model s but for other electric cars and compact cars, or trucks? Personally I don't think it would be beneficial over 4 inboard motors in any application. Trucks are normally not impacted as much by...

    Hub motors, will it happen?

What are your opinions on hub motors in a future model s and all other electric vehicles in the future? What are the pros and cons of having hub motors and do you think they will eventually become the dominate drive method in the future? Or do you think the 4 independent motors in the middle of...

    Electric motor gearing question

I am pretty sure I know the answer to this but I just want to hear someone else confirm my beliefs. My prediction of autonomous vehicles

Think about it. There is no logical reason for someone to buy a sport car even today. I know that there are some exceptions but in general, they are expensive to buy, expensive to maintain, uncomfortable to drive daily, can't park them in very many places for fear of damage, very little...

    My prediction of autonomous vehicles

My god a lot of you tesla fanboys/girls need to realize something. While most people on here don't really like cars or driving (that's why they buy a tesla) there are MANY people that well never let humans be banned from driving and there always will be. So all this talk of banning humans...

    The future of speeding

Well that's you man. Some of us won't just become passengers. I prefer people to have options. Your not going to ban human drivers. Why? Because not everyone shares your views. There are a lot of things I with we could ban but we can't because some like to do them.

    The future of speeding

Well everyone here seems to think that the computer can keep you from death. Im just going along with it. But yes as soon as they get to the point where it can fully self drive to a high degree of safety at the current 70 mph, then it will very quickly be able to go faster and faster. You just...

This should be the Tesla truck

For the same reasons the ford edge doesn't share it with the super duty's. It needs much higher battery capacity (well it does to for the f150 as well) and the lowest towing capacity for a new super duty is 12,200lbs and that's with a configuration that hardly anyone gets. Average towing...

    The future of speeding

Lol on the cubs:D:D But yes I can agree that in the middle of big cities like LA and NY that especially during rush hour, everyone would need to be in autonomous mode. I can see that becoming a law. On freeways I can see a lane or two possibly becoming autonomous only (at least in rush hour)...

Agreed. It needs a backup and it cant be remotely because there could be MANY vehicle that need help at the same time and they need it NOW. Not in 2 minutes, not even in 2 seconds. That's why I would be perfectly fine with rising in a self driving car but not in one that didn't have human...

This should be the Tesla truck

What I was thinking. Need extra battery capacity but they got to keep the weight down because every pound more the truck weighs, that's less it can haul/tow. That's why I'm looking forward to seeing if tesla can pull it off because we really need decently better battery density for a truck than...

This should be the Tesla truck

It's going to have to look like that and have the traditional bed on the back if they have any hopes of selling it. They are just going to have to come up with a way to get the range needed other than aerodynamics. Face facts, the truck that everyone wants is not aerodynamic. It needs ground...

Who is upgrading to self driving?

Yes I agree. It would need to be at least highly automated for everything to work perfectly. You stated that you like driving and I was just saying a way that we could keep driving. In the playing chicken thing, if the teen's car had autopilot in shadow mode (again like you said, assuming...

Who is upgrading to self driving?

A quote from an article talking about the recent call with Elon: "But, before Teslas can start driving autonomously, the company needs to collect a lot of data to prove to customers (and regulators) that the technology is safe and reliable. So, the car will run Autopilot in “shadow mode” in...

[Poll] Drag race of the century - Rimac EV hypercar vs Porsche 918 Hypercar

Yes I believe the ratio of the front motors and the rears in second gear is 3.5. That means multiply the power 3.5x to get the power it's actually putting to the ground. And the rears in first is like a 9.5. Top speed in first is 100mph and 220mph is second. I personally think it's going to...

[Poll] Drag race of the century - Rimac EV hypercar vs Porsche 918 Hypercar

Yes two single speeds in the front and two dual speeds in the rear. This allows uninterrupted acceleration when shifting because the front motors keep pulling. Actually in second gear I believe the front and rear motors have the same ratio. But in first the rears have like a mid 9 ratio. I...

I was right! All season tires. What you think it could do with the trofeo's? I bought the video so I've seen it. It was still barely pulling away from the 918 when they crossed the line. The 918 actually pulled away at the very beginning which I think points directly to the tire difference. The...

What types of future roads could speed limits be raised/eliminated?

If in the future autonomous safety systems make it so we can safely raise the speed limit or eliminate it all together, what types of roads would it be done on? To me this is what I think. And I really want to know what the trap speed was because it gives a slight indication (I know it does not fully demonstrate it) of higher up acceleration like highway roll racing and when you come out of corners already at high speed on a track and on the track straightaways. I would guess...

[Poll] Drag race of the century - Rimac EV hypercar vs Porsche 918 Hypercar

True. Although the rimac still may win in perfect atmospheric conditions if it had the trofeo's. If it does have all season tires or even just a mid range performance summer tire like the pilot super sport, the grip level jump to trofeo's would be crazy.

They did not say the trap speed on the run but the 918 was not catching it as the rimac was still barely pulling away by the end of the 1/4. Yes that's what im saying, the 918 was on trofeo r's and while I don't think they said the rimac's tires, they did have the hood up in one shot where you...
