    Air Bubbles in Instrument Cluster

Well I tried to replace mine today and it didn’t go well. Got everything out and new Reeldeal screen on but when I plugged it all in had the split screen ghost display below. Since it is superficially functional I suspect one (or both) of the ribbon connectors isn’t making proper contact. Agree?

Most cost effective instrument cluster and MCU1 repair/upgrade

I'm in a similar boat. I had the eMMc replaced as part of the recall. MCU1 seems to work OK for me. I like the FM radio and the main screen is OK, but the IC is showing signs of leakage. The car has about 113k miles on it, and so far no major repairs. I think I'll just replace the IC screen...

    Tesla's Free Unlimited Supercharging cost

No kidding - I could buy the same car or better for about $30k less than what I paid for mine back then...I feel I paid for the unlimited supercharging at least a couple of times over..

Yes, sorry I have everything in km. The Wh/mi numbers are 330 average for regular driving (with lead foot - LOL!).

    Lifetime Average Wh/mi

175,000 km on the first battery. Real-world without actually watching it over the last 8000km or so - 206 Wh/km ~ 330Wh/mi. Not sure where to read the lifetime value in the app - probably need to look in the car. In general, I find that for my car the most influential parameter is speed. I...

Scheduled charging versus off peak end

So I'm confused also. This used to work just fine with the previous firmware version (I'm now on 2022.8.10.5). I used to set a charge start time for 2:00 AM, and by the morning the car would easily be charged enough for me to go to work and back (I have a wall charger and set the limit at...

I got a set of these https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07R5XK9J2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 last September. I'm quite happy with them. Perfect fit and good quality. The edge stitching is a nice visual benefit as well.

HOW TO: Replace Headlights in Refresh (2016+) Model S

I just had one of my headlights replaced by Tesla, but not because of burned out DRL's, but because it starting making a really loud (even to me with serious hearing loss) buzzing sound. According to Tesla Service it is the "driver" and it is integrated in the unit and not separately...

    Yet Another MCU Failure Post

So first time for me. 2016 90D with about 116,000 km. My wife did a Spotify search and the screen went blank. Came back after a few tries, only to go blank again on the next music search (not Spotify). Stayed blank for a few tries, and eventually came back, very slowly. Should mention that...

    Road trip in a 2016 90D

Very similar experiences here, also with a 2016 Model S 90D. Our son is (or now I should say was) at UCLA and we live in San Francisco. Made the trip down there so many times, I now try to time my charge stops not by the need to charge, but by the desirability of the SC stops. E.g. going from...

Model S - HPWC (High Power Wall Connector)

After 4 years of trouble-free operation I had mine show red in the morning when I came out, but the car was fully charged (80% - my daily commute charge). Came home that night, plugged it in, no issues - turned green. Next morning same thing, connector and WC show red but the car is at 80%...

Trip Report: Reno, NV (Presidents Day Weekend 2020)

Very nice write-up Bruce! Mirrors my experiences with travel and charging almost exactly. As I get older I find I do need to get out of the car more often, and timing your charge stops so they coincide with food intake/bio breaks is almost ideal. We live in San Francisco and our son is now at...

    Effect of Frequent Stop/Start Charging

You're lucky you can charge during daylight hours. Many of us are away from home during the day (remember "work"?), and can only charge at night. I've been thinking about batteries to allow me to time shift the solar contribution so it's usable at night, but at current prices this doesn't seem...

Looking to wrap chrome to black! How much did it cost you?

I paid $ 1795 for mine at OC Detailing in Fremont, but they did an absolutely amazing job. Took off every piece of chrome, wrapped it and put it back on. After two years and countless washings it still looks like new ....YMMV

    Auto Folding Mirrors

I have had this issue, and for me the work-around has been that I am now in the habit (took a couple of weeks to make it a habit) to manually fold the mirrors when I park. Now they don't unfold until you are in the car and press the brake pedal (and very occasionally not until I manually unfold...

Does your AP1 read speed signs?

Hmm...late AP1 build here. I really don't think it actually "reads" the signs. It acts like there is a data base it gets its data from and when things change (as in construction, etc.) it loses its accuracy.

Montreal-Hamilton road trip in a S75D. Yes it works!

Nice write-up! And glad it all worked out for you. I'm now almost tow years into my Model S ownership, and have completely wiped worrying about road-trips from my mind. The available infra structure here on the West Coast is such that trip planning has become sort of an "..oh yeah, we...

    Anyone got 2018.12 beta yet?

I live in SF and drive down to Santa Clara often. Waze usually gave me one of two routes, the first straight down 101, and the second down 280, cutting across on Wolfe to Central and then down further to Lafayette where I get off. The new nav today just gave me the 101 option but predicted the...

    Anyone got 2018.12 beta yet?

Tried the new navigation beta today on my commute and it now closely resembles (i.e. is almost identical) to what I get in Waze on my phone. Initially still a tad optimistic on arrival times (by a couple of minutes or so), but much, much better than before ..YMMV

Model S performance in edge cases

With the feedback it would also be good top kn ow which version of autopilot people are commenting g on. Anyone retrofitted air suspension? Or done a custom airbag setup?

I'm with you in wishing I had forked over the extra bucks for the air suspension. At the time I ordered mine the general consensus seemed to be that the air suspension is nice, but generally "softer" than the coils. My problem is that while I appreciate the perhaps perceptibly stiffer...

    Lifetime Average Wh/mi

I have mine set to metric units. 191 Wh/km over nearly 50,000 km just sounds better than the equivalent 305 Wh/mi ;) I still can't resist putting my foot down every so often. OTOH, between my solar panels at home and the SC's for longer trips, I can (almost) say I've been driving for free...

How to save a lot of time on long trips

LOL! Love the family comment! Luckily my wife's family is in Japan and it's tough to plan road trip there, even in a Tesla..;) For what it's worth, I'm now about 20 months into ownership of my S90D, and I barely look at any charge charts or graphs anymore, except perhaps for a trip I have...

    Autopilot thoughts

I drive the same road every week, sometimes twice a week and mine does the same on some sections. Often I find it depends on the time of day, lighting conditions and the amount of traffic. Driving directly against the rising sun seems to throw it off sometimes. OTOH sometimes there is dense...

Is there a way to change my car from BAR to PSI?

The main thing to look out for is to have reasonably equal pressures (unless you have staggered wheels). On standard 19" GoodYear Eagles 3.1 bar is almost perfect (44.95 PSI). If during a drive you get up to 3.2 or even 3.3 this is OK, but if you're on a fairly straight and level road they all...

TeslaFi and TripB indicate different consumption

Sorry, but my old rusty engineering brain has a hard time accepting "rated miles" as a unit of energy. I can relate to kWh (i can measure that), miles (or km - I can also measure). So my (perhaps erroneous) assumption was that the data set would be based on measurable units and that things...
  36. E

TeslaFi and TripB indicate different consumption

I've now put in a "fudge factor" of 0.855 to get the car and TeslaFi to agree after 80 or so driven km, but now I'm really puzzled as to what exactly I'm looking at. Somewhat related (or perhaps not), on a longer trip I used ABRP, and there the indicated (predicted) consumption seemed to...
  37. E

TeslaFi and TripB indicate different consumption

Hmmm ....I would have thought that the car and TeslaFi are looking at the identical data set. I can see where things like percentage charge and rated miles used, etc, could be off a little because they don't have well defined reference points, but in terms of absolute kWh's used, the drive...
  38. E

TeslaFi and TripB indicate different consumption

I think I just answered my own question. In settings under "Vehicle" TeslaFi allows you too pick a fudge factor on the consumption to more accurately reflect what you are seeing on your vehicle. 1.0 is the default value, but you can enter anywhere from 0.5 to 1.5 to more accurately reflect what...

TeslaFi and TripB indicate different consumption

I've been wondering about that. I'm not sure how to get TeslaFi to display consumption over longer periods of time. For example. on the car it shows the lifetime average as 191 Wh/km. I couldn't find anything in TeslaFi to display an equivalent (say the last several months). to compare. I...

TeslaFi and TripB indicate different consumption

Not sure if this exact item has come up before. I searched and couldn't find an exact match. My question is this: On a relatively short commute (~88km), the car's trip meter says I consumed 16.0 kWh, but TeslaFi says I consumed 18.55. This happens quite consistently. As a result all other...

    TeslaFi - dash discrepancy

So I just looked at the raw API data and there all all blank fields between 7:00 Am and 7:16 AM when TeslaFi starts to show real data. On the right it says "trying to sleep". Yet it is clear the car is moving. Do I have a setting wrong somewhere?

    TeslaFi - dash discrepancy

Easy Entry Seat Belt problem (solution?)

    Vacuum Interior....

I use one of the 12 gal shop vacs for most of the interior. As was said elsewhere, they do a great job.
