    EU finalize and deliveries

Hello folks, Free unlimited supercharging transfer from old Tesla S and X to a new S, X or Y purchase is now possible also in Europe. Got a message this morning. I do now know whether this is a recent option but felt worth sharing the news. Mario

Switching from TM3 to Jaguar I-Pace

Thank you S’toon. Well, I still love my MS and I am still looking forward for many years of use and long journeys. The iPace is simply different.

Switching from TM3 to Jaguar I-Pace

Well, this is not surprising. The two cars are different in drag coefficient (iPace 0.29 vs M3 0.23), weight (iPace 2130kg vs M3 1800kg) and wheel size (iPace 245/50R20 vs M3 235/40ZR19). Note also that the 260Wh/km I mentioned was with the heating on (outside temperature, as far as I remember...

Switching from TM3 to Jaguar I-Pace

These are the numbers that I got during the first week of driving (my wife is the driver). The path is a mix of highway, urban and sub-urban. She is getting 400 Wh/km only going uphill (steepness around 4-6%). For the moment, we are quite happy about the range indeed, after the first week of...

As promised, here below a first summary of the comparison between my MS and the my new iPace. Financial and economical considerations We got the HSE version fully loaded except air suspension at 96kCHF. You can give back your ICE (Jaguar bought back my 2009 BMW 325i Xdrive, so it is an...

Switching from TM3 to Jaguar I-Pace

The cat is finally here ! A very different car compared to my MS. Different feeling with the road, driving position, overall stiffness, acceleration and braking. More to come in the coming days in a back-to-back comparison.

Switching from TM3 to Jaguar I-Pace

Yes, it is a quite nice option. I am a cyclist and I am thinking that it is a nice plus for my rides.

Switching from TM3 to Jaguar I-Pace

I was also in contact today with the DS and discovered several other nice features like the possibility to schedule the charge from the app, the ventilated seats (heating and cooling); a fully-programmaly central display (more than the one of the Tesla in therms of selection of apps to be...

Switching from TM3 to Jaguar I-Pace

Just to keep you posted on the I-Pace delivery process. Received today the confirmation about the delivery: Sept. 17, 2018. When the car was ordered in March, I was told mid September and they seems to keep the promise. More to follow.

The WLTP is replacing the NEDC. From what I read, the WLTP should provide results very similar to the EPA (From NEDC to WLTP: what will change? | WLTPfacts.eu)

Look at the Jaguar I-Pace home page: Jaguar I-PACE | Our First All-Electric Car | Jaguar One full charge provides a range of 480km (298miles) on the WLTP cycle*. *WLTP (Worldwide harmonised Light vehicle Test Procedure) is the new process that has been phased in from 2017, which measures fuel...

Switching from TM3 to Jaguar I-Pace

"killer"...wow that's a word that I personally dislike. This is not a macho competition. We are just comparing consumers' choices.
  21. M

Switching from TM3 to Jaguar I-Pace

On the first point: more market competition, more choice for the consumers. About the second point, I agree with you. There is a non negligible level of uncertainty on reliability and assistance. We will see.

Switching from TM3 to Jaguar I-Pace

MXWing, about this: the I-Pace has also a built-in routing system that considers all the available charging stations options to get to your destination. It works very similarly to the Tesla one. About your comment on the paying methods, well in my Tesla I already have three RFID cards that...

Switching from TM3 to Jaguar I-Pace

My 2 cents: also the resale value of my 18 months old MS 90D has already dropped like a stone ! That's something usual for any new tech device. EVs are not an exception.
  24. M

Switching from TM3 to Jaguar I-Pace

MXWing thanks for the comment. My 2 cents: I have done several cross-Europe trips with my MS 90D (the next one will be all along the Provence region in France). Usually, these trips are 3.000 km long. In these trips I do not use only the SC network but also CHADEMO chargers and non-Tesla...

Switching from TM3 to Jaguar I-Pace

The I Pace battery pack uses pouch cells instead of cylindrical (see picture I took on the open chassis yesterday at the Geneva Motor Show). The advantage should be that you may avoid to circulate the glycol in direct contact with the cells. It may be that the cells have interleaved thermal...

Switching from TM3 to Jaguar I-Pace

You are definitely right when you say that the two cars are not in the same category. The I-Pace is definitely a competitor of the MS. What we were stressed about the M3 was the long waiting time. Certainly the charging infrastructure available in Europe is a determining factor that opens the...

Switching from TM3 to Jaguar I-Pace

I love the minimalism of the Tesla interior. However, I agree that the M3 may have gone too far on that. ...and on the I-Pace you can have the HUD for 640 USD !!

Switching from TM3 to Jaguar I-Pace

Hi C141medic, Thanks for the comment. We own in the family a MS 90D since two years and I can tell you that the I-Pace is a serious competitor. I am very curious to have a back-to-back comparison.

Switching from TM3 to Jaguar I-Pace

After a long waiting, my wife decided to switch from the TM3 to the Jaguar I-Pace. We are living in Switzerland and just saw the I-Pace at the 2018 Geneva Motor show. The car looks great. The fit and finish, the design (exterior and interior) are superb. We ordered it and should be delivered...

The moment AP slams the brakes on......

Agree. It does not slam the brakes. When it happens, it activates the regen roughly at half power. Therefore, you have the time to override.
  35. M

The moment AP slams the brakes on......

Sorry, I forget to mention that mine is a MS 90D AP1
  36. M

The moment AP slams the brakes on......

Very common for me. I have noticed a certain reproducibility of this behaviour in the same points on highways. In particular, there is a highway bifurcation on a straight that triggers the AP to slam the brakes.

    What's your 90%?

In my case, when new, my 90% was 250mi and now (after 10kmi) is 247mi. So, your MS has an average loss of 0.47 mi each 1000mi whilst I have an average loss of 0.3 mi each 1000mi.
  39. M

    What's your 90%?

Two questions: 1. What's your mileage ? 2. Which was your 90% when new ? Thanks
  40. M

    What's your 90%?

Just received a call from the SC. They looked at the log of the battery, modules etc. All appear to be fine (no faults, no warnings from the modules). They also compared the performances (i.e., range estimated vs actual) of my pack with respect to those of the 90D fleet and they are within the...

    What's your 90%?

wdolson, I see your point. My 90 D has been built in July 2016 and since the beginning had this mileage (i.e., 250 mi @90%). Today, I went to the Tesla SC and asked whether my rated mileage is normal. They confirmed that the 90% should be in the order of 265 mi. So, they found my rated mileage...
  42. M

    What's your 90%?

jareade, my MS is almost identical to yours, even in terms of milage. I still do not understand why my 90% is only 250 mi. Again, by filtering all the posts of owners of the 90D, I can identify two clusters: MS with 250 mi range @ 90% and MS with 270 @ 90%. If the mileage is associated to the...
  43. M

    What's your 90%?

Interesting. From what we all say, it seems that there are two different behaviours of S 90D battery packages: a first group of cars with a 25X mi range @ 90% and a second one with 27X mi (still @ 90%).
  44. M

    What's your 90%?

wdolson, do you have your range mode "ON" ?
  45. M

    What's your 90%?

chalmc80, what's the SC feedback about your 90% range ? Is there any faulty module on your battery ? I am curious because my MS 90D @ 90% has 402 km (250 mi). I have 10.000 km on the odometer and the car is 6 months old. I am pretty happy about the battery ageing since I lost just 1 km of range...

Message: Charging Problem, but charging continues

All, just to close on the issue I had with my car: the SC detected a problem with the charger. Apparently, one of the three rectifiers arms got a fault and automatically disconnected by the charger protection system. They have replaced the entire charger unit under warranty. I am using it since...

    Dual charger problem

I had a 800 km trip this week-end, supercharged 3 times with no problems. I also discovered that what the call 'dual charger' in the latest cars is a single unit of 16.6 kW rated power. In mine, there is a problem with one of the legs of the rectifier. So, they will change the whole unit.

    Dual charger problem

Just got the Tesla service feedback: one of the three branches of the charger/rectifier does not work. So, they change the unit.
