For just $2,500 more, why did you order Model S (non-Plaid) over the Model X tax edition 5 seats ?

They're two different cars in different categories. Few people cross shop between them. I came from an e39 540i MTech to my first Model S when that was the only Tesla selling, and loved it. When it became time to replace it, the same color in the newer version was really the only thing I had...

Supercharger - Livermore, CA - West Jack London Boulevard (LIVE 13 Dec 2023, 16 V3 stalls)

Used this site during a quick pit stop back from Tahoe last weekend. It was among the few that weren't fully subscribed in the Sunday evening rush. Great location next to the premium outlets, fantastic charging speed and therefore good turnover rate.

    Supercharger - Soda Springs, CA (LIVE 8 Dec 2023, 12 V3 stalls)

I don’t think it’s the ambient conditions. Across multiple trips from Cupertino to Incline Village or Reno, our one stop option is Soda Springs or Truckee Soaring Way. I’ve arrived at both late evening in the snow with 10% left and Truckee charges like a bat out of hell, while Soda Springs...

    Supercharger - Soda Springs, CA (LIVE 8 Dec 2023, 12 V3 stalls)

Same problem with charging speed for me at this SC on two Tahoe trips . Including last night in the weekend travel chaos around chain control and the snow piled up making some stalls inaccessible. To the guy in the white MS last night at 1030pm tugging so hard on the cable as to almost destroy...

2024.8.7 brings UWB phone key to HW4

Not sure if it helps but I’m on basic autopilot and the Advanced software update toggle setting as opposed to the standard one . Maybe it gets scheduled differently if you’re on EAP or FSD . I’ve gotten software updates multiple times this year already .

2024.8.7 brings UWB phone key to HW4

That’s the right app version. When I got the first S, it was the only Tesla model around in any significant number, ignoring the Roadster. It was a nice friendly community and everything. Now though... I live in dread of someone coming and asking me why my car doesn't look like a regular Model 3.

2024.8.7 brings UWB phone key to HW4

Received the new software update tonight. I’d been wondering why my Sept 2023 build with HW4 didn’t get the UWB phone key feature and voila, it shows up in this update. Needs the up to date phone app. It only showed me the upgrade option on the app when I toggled Bluetooth off and back on.

MSLR 2023 Winter and Hill Driving Review

Drove up to Tahoe again last weekend. We faced the huge snowstorm at the Donner summit, which thinned out traffic to almost nothing . Once again, the car performed great - the tires seemingly got better after a few minutes over snow. The wheel wells tend to accumulate a lot of muddy snow though...

MSLR 2023 Winter and Hill Driving Review

Great to hear that. I'm definitely surprised how much better the car is than what I thought were pretty well grounded expectations after owning an older S. This is definitely a very different car in cold weather and high altitude conditions.

MSLR 2023 Winter and Hill Driving Review

Drove from the Bay Area to Lake Tahoe this past ski week with the family and 2 small/medium size dogs and a bunch of cold weather gear (sleds etc). Here's a quick review of the experience. tl;dr - the car did extremely well with both hill driving to altitude (8200ft) and weather (15 degree...

California DMV - Plates & HOV Stickers

The current burgundy as well we the prior two generation (green and yellow) stickers run through Sept 30 2025. That's a fair bit of time. https://ww2.arb.ca.gov/resources/fact-sheets/current-clean-air-vehicle-decal

California DMV - Plates & HOV Stickers

CAV decals appear to take 3 months to process. 9/2023 purchase, got plates first week of October and applied, got burgundy stickers last weekend. I expected to get the hideous green ones but am happy I got burgundy.

    To upgrade or not

Ambient lighting ? I wish they'd just let us display the trip card and other features that used to be possible to show on the fronl dash, not on the main display. They've curtailed the set of information that could previously be shown on the front dash. It's a sign that even spending on S/X...

    I can't decide!! Used S vs new Y

Went from a 2016 MS with coil to a 2023 with the latest air suspension. The most notable thing is that my spouse no longer gets motion sickness on hilly roads. She *does* get motion sickness from sport or insane mode acceleration, which is why I didn't bother with the Plaid.

Keep 2016.5 90D or move to 2023 LR?

I sold my 2016 75D for a 2023 LR. Total all inclusive cost was in the low 50Ks thanks to the price I got for the old car. What I like about the 2023: * Vastly greater range, excellent combined consumption close to rated range. * The ventilated seats and far better climate control * Air...

MS Plaid vs Taycan vs EQS

Having owned two Model Ss across close to 8 years now, and having put ~110000 miles on them, my view is that range anxiety is not a function of just range - it is a function of two variables - the available functional range and the ubiquity of the charging infrastructure. If your car has ~350...

Tesla offers to transfer lifetime free supercharging to new vehicle

I sold my 2016 75D with FUSC last month, ordering the new S the day after the price cuts. I had SC01 and premium connectivity. Tesla offered 14K trade in for it. Carvana etc were ~18K. I sold it for nearly 30K private party. The two main discerning buyers both knew about and wanted to confirm...

    Model S Trailer Hitch Installation

Interesting. Looking at the Torklift site, the pre-refresh cars get two hitch options - 1.25" and 2". The new refresh only gets a stainless steel 2" option, which is what I have. It came with a SAE grade 5 bolt for the receiver.

    Model S Trailer Hitch Installation

I had the torklift hitch installed on my 2023 MS this weekend too. Anticipating potential tailstrikes, I took off the receiver except for when I need to use it. I also found it concerning that there's just that single bolt, but I expect to have the receive on only during summer months in...

    Differences Between Mid-2018 Model S and Mid-2023 Model S

One of the most interesting personal observations after a month of ownership is hill driving. My spouse is prone to motion sickness. To the point of needing a break to throw up roadside on occasion. This used to be fairly routine and anticipated in the past. Didn't seem to help even if I babied...

    What's your S 75 range at 90%?

Miles. I have no idea how to price it anyway. On FUSC cars, it does not display the prices - it always shows $0.00 worth of charging anywhere.

    What's your S 75 range at 90%?

I sold my 2016 75D last month. It had 107000 miles on it. Original HV battery and DUs. 90% was 207 miles 100% was ~230 miles The same figures at the time of purchase were 232 and 259 miles respectively, meaning under 12% degradation. My charging practices were to typically charge to 80% or...

Roof rack vs rear hitch rack for bicycles

Ouch. How did you install the hitch - I didn't have one on my old car and am yet to scope out how to go about doing so on the new arrival. I'm handy enough around cars, having worked on my E39 but am careful about fiddling with a brand new car's panels.

Roof rack vs rear hitch rack for bicycles

For those of you who've installed bike racks of some kind on your Model S, what led you to choose what you did - either a roof rack or rear hitch mounted one ? Considering one or the other for my new 23. The factors as I understand them are: Roof + Easy to install + Rack alone has...

Tesla drops prices on X/S $20k. All colors free. Bye bye resale

Haven't they already done that ? During week 1 of the price cut they offered a $1000 loyalty discount on top of the price cut - and I got that. Now it's apparently just $500. A few anecdotal points: * I ordered the day after the price cut (9/2). I got the car within a week (9/9). I was the...

    Liftmaster and Homelink

I had Homelink program flawlessly on both my cars. I pointed the remote at the 'T' in front, with the frunk shut. Most recently, I did this two weeks ago with the new car. I also kept the button pressed on the remote for ~10-15 seconds until the lights blinked.

    Delivery MS 2023

Mine had the PPF film on the rear flares too. Admittedly I didn't notice them on my car during the pick up inspection two weeks ago - it was essentially flawless. Final Trade-In Offer 25% Less

Just sold my old '16 two weeks ago, days after picking up the new 23. Tesla's trade in value was a laughable 14K. It ultimately sold for just under 30k to a PP buyer for. Carvana etc were just under 20k, but I ultimately sold at the upper end of KBB excellent range via PP. For a much newer...

    Differences Between Mid-2018 Model S and Mid-2023 Model S

Yeah the 'energy tach' wasn't worth much more than the coolness factor, but I always found the trip card useful, able to modulate my driving to keep to the ~273 Wh/mi that corresponded to 100% of rated range, something that wasn't too hard to hit during long drives, except in cold winter weather.

    Differences Between Mid-2018 Model S and Mid-2023 Model S

Update on differences between a 2016 and 2023 after 2 weeks of owning the latter (and managing to sell the former within a couple of days of picking up the new one): * Getting used to the higher standard regen. I find it better than the one in the old car; it makes for much more effective one...

Unable to make it to Kettleman on Performance Model Y (from Fremont to LA)

Getting to Kettleman from Cupertino in my old 75D wasn't such a big deal. Yes you want to avoid really going hard, but I was keeping up with the flow of 70-72mph in Chill Mode with a family+dog on board. I used to start with 95% (about 220 miles then) and get there with 15% or so. Keeping up...

19”s. Only ever had the stock 19”s on my two cars - the first with coils. I keep my suspension in auto as well, on the new one. I haven’t driven it enough in each mode to really opine. The coils on the old one were fine, nothing fancy.

    Differences Between Mid-2018 Model S and Mid-2023 Model S

Both the trunk and frunk are shallower in the 2023 than in my 2016. I looked it up: 2016 Tesla Model S/Cargo volume 26.3 ft³, 60.2 to 63.4 ft³ with seat area 2023 Tesla Model S/Cargo volume 25 ft³, 64.6 ft³ with seat area The higher volume with seat down is probably on account of the...

    Differences Between Mid-2018 Model S and Mid-2023 Model S

I just sold my old 2016 last week for a 2023 LR. Here's a summary of all the things we noticed. 1. Right off, wife said she MUCH prefers the new seats on this car. She was never a fan of the shape of the old seats and complained of neck pain on it. The new one took away all of that - 10...

    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

When I ordered on 2/9 , the estimate was 'September/October'. Nothing ever changed about that. But I got the VIN on 9/6 and they texted me soon after to prepare for delivery during week of 9/11. I requested a weekend delivery so family could be present, and they offered me 9/9. All the while...

    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

The Tesla buying experience is minimalist, like the car interiors are. It's not the Porsche European Delivery experience or anything remotely like it. How to display trip/energy on front display ?

Thanks! Yeah I get the feeling the M3/MY based focus on the main display has resulted lesser investment into the UI/UX of the front display. It's certainly a step back for me to not have the trip card, something I'm used to always seeing. Hopefully this will change in a future SW update.

New built car has 71 miles on odometer

Back when I got my first MS , it sounded like conventional received wisdom that the cars came out of Fremont with 50 miles on the odo. That’s what mine had , and it pretty much rolled out of the factory. My current car came with 15 miles on the odometer. As far as I’d assumed, that’s the new...
