AUTO BILD: Tesla suspected subsidy fraud in Germany

This was Tesla's disingenuous response to the German government's disingenuous subsidy limit, which was influenced by domestic auto makers to exclude Tesla. (of course before M3)

I had a similar experience with Ingineer only mine was much worse. I posted an even-tempered and detailed thread about it here six months ago but mods deleted it. I am highly technical and a good engineer, and knew exactly what I was getting into with a salvage car. I bought two cars built...

    AEB Won’t Prevent an Accident

And this is exactly what TSB has now reopened its investigation on. I'm beginning to suspicion that the CID is too slow to be reliable in this, whereas in older cars (MB) it's fine.

Is it safe to connect a large inverter to the 12V battery?

Really, connecting to the 12v system is not a good solution. Best would be having a qualified shop install a HV inverter near the rear HVJB and run 120vAC outlets where convenient. Camping mode.

Is there a way to change my car from BAR to PSI?

One bar is one atmosphere at sea level. (14.5psi) This is the weight of the column of air all the way up to space in 1 square inch. (We learned atmospheric pressure even in US schools)

    AEB Won’t Prevent an Accident

No one has thought to wonder why AEB only drops speed by 25mph. When there's no input from the driver, it just washes its 'hands' of the situation? And no one has thought to wonder why the radar doesn't respond to stationary objects. I know it 'sees' them (it is doppler), but the system does...

Wanted: Dead MCUs and Various Connectors

Hey Hank, I believe you were the one who found that high-res rear cameras work on older model S'? I asked Tesla parts about this the other day and they said that cameras from 2016-7 Teslas will not work on a 2015. This seems implausible. Have you found otherwise? The newer ones are ~$76 here.

Wanted: Dead MCUs and Various Connectors

Good to know, thanks Hank. Although, be advised that these are called 'HSD' connectors. (High Speed Data) Everyone calls them FAKRA because somebody messed up early-on. (and I think I know who) I guess this will make some here mad, but FAKRA connectors are instead the RF co-ax connectors used...

The Media Control Unit is the 17" center screen. I don't need the screen itself, but if you have old backs for it I'd like to look at them. Just for my morbid curiosity. Also looking for the connectors in-line with the rear camera. One pair is at the upper-left of the hatchback, and the...

    Tesla Incapacitated on Xmas

Yep, happened to me too Christmas eve, but the difference is I am off the grid. (I'm Tesla-blacklisted for having a rebuilt) It was below freezing that evening, and ICU and MCU were black when I got in and the car seemed dead. Hit the brake and the ICU then booted but the MCU was black. It...

    I bought crashed Tesla S 70D((

Eyaak. That 'prework' wasn't done by Copart. It was done by a previous buyer. They failed in some way and put it back on Copart. It's probably been stripped of airbags, etc, and I'm sure the frame rails weren't replaced properly.

MCU fails for the second time

I am not having a 'who has the longest peter' contest, so common around here. {pff} When an ext3 system crashes or is reset, the data content of files or directories being modified will be affected. And depending on what that was, it can be fatal to the system. ext3 journaling can unroll...
  24. Dr. Smoke

MCU fails for the second time

Yes black screen can mean a corrupted filesystem, or worn-out flash. ext3 isn't fully journaled like ext4 or zfs, so it can get damaged by a reset (two-finger-salute) or by disconnecting the battery at the wrong instant. Hell, even ext4 is touchy. Lots of bad MCUs are floating around and the...

Yikes those mirrors are rougher than I expected. To see if you have the heated mirrors you can check to see if there are wires going to the windshield washer jets. If so, the mirrors are heated. The cut-loop is under the hood on the passenger's side next to the hinge. There should be a...

car needs service unable to dc fast charge

Could be any number of reasons. The only way to know is to see the errors it's throwing. If you're also getting "Car will not start", most likely is a leak in the pack connector gasket, as I'd earlier documented.
  36. Dr. Smoke

How to avoid a runaway condition

Presumably the OP fears an electronic failure. Older DC-powered electric cars could fail with a short in the MOSFET(s) and hit full throttle. Maybe the OP is aware of this. This is why if you were smart, you added a kill switch to your conversion. (Lots of ppl didn't, and never had a failure)...

POLL: Have you had to have your 12V battery replaced?

2015 P85D @7,500 miles, I had to replace the cheap C&D 12v due to heavy sulphation. Installed a much higher capacity, far longer-lasting (and lighter) LiFePO4 and haven't looked back. (I had to make the stainless strap as the battery is deeper)

    Question about rear bumper removal

The sensors are not adjustable, and just snap in/out. They should remove the bumper cover and the sensors from it to do a proper prep and respray. Ain't no thing, unless they forget to plug them back in.

Shhhhhh....Where should I install my radar detector?

This is where a laser jammer comes in handy. Legal in most states, it jams for 4 seconds, then turns off so the cop can get a read. (Many here are in Cali though, so you're out of luck) There just isn't any sense in getting a microwave detector, for the very reason you cite for laser.

Why didn't the Model S cross the stream?

Newer models have a valve on top of the inverter that reduces the chances of letting water in. But, the pack has vents which can and do sometimes let water in. And, if your pack has ever (ever) been removed, there is a design problem where the gasket around the pack's main contacts to the car...
