Scrolling wheel on steering wheel easily breaks. Is the part available separately?

After I broke my scroll wheel I reached out to David, who kindly sent me a couple of 3D printed scroll wheels to test. I replaced my volume scroll wheel this evening. It was a straight forward process, and the 3D printed scroll wheel works perfectly. Thank you David! I'll report back on...

    wiper blade overshoots the windshield

They did. I think it was buffed off. Granted, this was before there were tens of thousands of M3s, back when $100k+ Tesla owners were a smaller bunch that got more attention.

Is it safe to connect a large inverter to the 12V battery?

The inverter is for 1200W continuous, so it can take a bit more when something kicks on. Fridge and freezer work together fine, and draw 400W to 600W. To turn on furnace, I first disconnect the fridge & freezer. Once house is warm, I turn off furnace and reconnect freezer & fridge. At all...

Is it safe to connect a large inverter to the 12V battery?

So at this point, based on your observations, running an inverter from my MX will keep the 12v battery from cycling up and down, and preserve its life? I had a five-day outage due to the fires, and ran a 1200 watt inverter hooked to my MX battery to power refrigerator, freezer, and furnace. I...

Is it safe to connect a large inverter to the 12V battery?

Thanks for the information. Was 600 Watt the minimum load to keep DC-DC running at all time?

What are those 12V voltage spikes when idling?

Thanks for sharing all this information, lymex2018 In the end, did you figure out the minimum draw you need to keep DC always on and the 12v battery always topped? And does that minimum draw depends on whether energy savings is on or off? Thanks.

    Two-year service time requirements?

Actually, that is not the 2-yr service I just got. I have the prepaid service, and my understanding is that now it's a la carte, meaning you can do the minimum, but some opt for more. My two year service last week included: 1/ wiper replacement, and new wiper valve replacement 2/ A/C...

    Two-year service time requirements?

Just had that done. It's a bigger service, but they can do it in one day if you have no other issues. Took two days for me, but they had extra work to do.

Sentry Mode AP2 Model X Set up

Key part of setting up an AP2 car for Sentry Mode: debadging the 90D cars. With badge removed, would-be thieves will have no way to tell whether it is actually recording or not. It will be an excellent deterrent, especially with all the news about Sentry Mode footage catching thieves and vandals.

News for Model X owners with the dreaded shudder

When people mention Service Centers, it's best to mention which one, as they are of varying competence. Anyhow, this is classic Tesla, and you get different answers from different places. This said, this obviously is not a rumor, as one of the largest SCs stated they already had a permanent...

News for Model X owners with the dreaded shudder

An update on the new fix. I tested acceleration at Very High & High suspension settings, and no shudder. Before, even when the car was new, it shuddered at those heights.

News for Model X owners with the dreaded shudder

Perhaps the motor mount is the key part, as the other parts in my work order look standard. There was no point for my SC (as they told me themselves) to replace these with the previous flawed shaft system. Would be a waste of money and time.

News for Model X owners with the dreaded shudder

MXs tend to shudder under hard acceleration when suspension is set to high. But as time passes, it starts to shudder even on regular height. It only occurs under hard acceleration (flooring the accelerator). I DOES NOT shudder when braking or slowing down, however. So your issue is likely...

News for Model X owners with the dreaded shudder

Yes, no shudder in low and standard settings. Haven't tried on higher settings, though. I only go above standard height for steep driveways and in parking garages with concrete stoppers.

    2019.12.1 update

Anyone with AP2 hardware, paid for AP1 and did not pay for EAP?

I've been curious about this. I upgraded at the time, and my account did show the FSD $2k upgrade during the sale (which I opted not to make). Any reason you are still on v8?

Warning on Firmware Update 2019.8.6 Fail

    New FSD details

It is truly astounding that no one has been able to get an answer on that simple a question. How hard is it for Tesla to let people know whether Sentry Mode and Dash Cam are MCU or AP HW based? Can't a journalist with a little clout ask that simple question?
  26. polymathic

So what exactly do you get when you buy the FSD upgrade? (for AP2.0, EAP owners)

Does anyone know for sure if Sentry Mode and Dashcam Mode are AP2.5/AP3.0 (ECU Hardware) or MCU 2 hardware? I have an AP2/MCU1 MX with EAP. If buying today FSD for $2k also means Sentry Mode & Dashcam Mode features, then it's really worth it. Just getting a professionally installed high end...

    wiper blade overshoots the windshield

Model X Suspension (very stiff) vs Model S Suspension (smooth)

Lowering the suspension on a spring car does stiffen it, but not on an air suspension. It requires more air pressure to raise the suspension, ergo added stiffness. Furthermore, the increase in ride height makes for greater movement in the cabin, so a rougher ride. Think of an earthquake on...

    wiper blade overshoots the windshield

Don't bend the arm! You an pop up the plastic bolt cover of the wiper, loosen the bolt, adjust the wiper, tighten the bolt. Check the Tesla service manual for proper torque. I know this because my while overshot the car altogether and caused damaged to the body, as it was not tightened to...

Found a Magnet under the front of my Tesla

That magnet looks like a cow magnet. Do you live in a farming community with lots of cows? These are inserted into cows so they trap ingested nails and stuff, and prevent them from causing damage further down the digestive track. They are very powerful.

    Driving in icy/snow condition

Is it smart to buy FSD for $5k while it’s still available for MX owners?

What has not changed is Tesla's overoptimistic timelines. Six months for the chip could be a year and a half. Then it could be months before AP2 cars can even get the upgrade. This does not even include the delays in the software development, and any issue with getting FSD approved by the gov't...

Is it smart to buy FSD for $5k while it’s still available for MX owners?

As a very first AP2 costumer where you could upgrade to EAP from the regular AP, I'd say waiting is by far the best option. Only with v9 do we have actual parity to AP1. That took nearly two years when the promise was a couple of months. There still isn't a single EAP feature that works and...

Rated Miles Vs Actual Miles Vs EVTripplanner

On my 90D, I get a rated range that is about 1% accurate if I drive 5mph above the speed limit and avoid sudden accelerations. This is in 65-70 degree weather. In reality, I get less as I tend to drive aggressively, and more than 5mph above the speed limit. Then it is about 80% of rated range.

M3 refusing to lock after update

Going back to my father-in-law's problem.... This solved the problem. Somehow, the trunk was unlatched, but there were no warnings that was the case. This stumped Tesla support via email and phone. But of course TMC delivered in no time! Thanks, Runt8.

M3 refusing to lock after update

Well, it is actually open. So, wherever he goes, the car remains unlocked. On the upside, he is the only Tesla owner in his county, and one of the very few M3 owners in the state, so I bet most people don't know how to open the door.:)
