Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

I just replied to the text message saying the official site says labor is included. Shortly thereafter they sent another agreement with labor(And the 4 nuts) removed

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

Just got back from getting my car. Observations: 1. Interface is(obviously) much smoother. Feels basically like my phone, with everything responding instantly. Tried out the web browser and that now works fine as well. 2. All the visualizations appear just like I’ve seen in YouTube videos...

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

FYI, I was supposed to get my car back today, but there was some issue with the car communicating with the unit. They’re apparently working with engineering to fix it and I’m now supposed to get it back on Monday. They offered a loaner, but we’re usually stuck at home anyway thanks to COVID-19

Someone else asked for that so I was going to send to him personally, but maybe I’ll just update here instead after it’s done.

Yep. I included a link to the page, maybe that helps?

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

Notably, I got no invite and it’s all proceeding fine. Consistency is not Tesla’s strong suit.

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

Mine was Dec ‘16 and I’m scheduled for tomorrow. Already got and signed the agreement. This is in the Bay Area, so may be starting here first?

    Thanks. Glad I asked.

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

Hey, cool, I actually got accepted for the upgrade(no email received at all, not even any notification any kind of upgrade was coming). Shows up a charge of $195 for labor(and $0.20 for some nuts); did we decide that’s normal? Note: this is a Dec 2016 AP2.0 car.

How LONG must I wait for my MCU2 UPGRADE???

According to the website, they’re currently planning on end of May(see: Infotainment Upgrade). That’s been changed twice so far, likely taking a hit because of COVID-19.
  12. M

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

Um, they did, people just decided they don’t believe them. The website currently says “Late May” for AP 2.0 and states you will only be able to get an upgrade if you get the email invitation.

Cool sunny day generation lower than expected?

I got my Tesla solar installation(3.8kW w/ 1 powerwall) fully turned on at the end of February. On partly cloudy days, I’ve seen the production go as high as 3.9kW(!), so all seems to be good there. On the flip side, though, on fully sunny days, it doesn’t seem to go higher than ~3.2kW, and that...

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

Right, I was referring to this part of your post: “what we do know is that the AP2 -> AP3 upgrade WITHOUT upgrading MCU1 -> MCU2 is listed as "at some point in the future" with no definitive timeline...” There is a timeline, it’s just later than if you do MCU upgrade at the same time.

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

*Ahem* Full Self-Driving Computer Installations Now for AP2.5, May for AP2.0.

I think that was me, with my solar order email issue(s) :). They do need some serious devops work. And a good ticket system.
  17. M

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

There’s a (somewhat inconspicuous) link to it from the infotainment upgrade support page. I don’t think I’ve ever managed to find it without either clicking on that link, or links posted on TMC. Searching for it on the support page is hopeless.
  18. M

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

    1. It doesn’t list any requirement other than having AP2.0/2.5 2. It’d be kinda weird to list it happening in May, when the infotainment upgrade page says late March for AP2.0 and right now for 2.5. Pretty clearly for non-MCU2.
  19. M

According to their site, that’s coming in May: Full Self-Driving Computer Installations Also: @sealbeach100d

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

I’m curious: were MCU1/AP2.0/FSD folks supposed to get the original email? Because I haven’t gotten anything at all from Tesla even indicating this upgrade path exists(other than seeing the support page after the emails were reported here). I’m not terribly worried since it would t be my turn...

Addressing the content, since I know nothing about the man: Human psychology doesn’t typically work that way. You can’t(usually) just bottle up whatever a person was feeling before, put it on hold, and then pop open the cork later, making them behave exactly the same way as before the crisis...

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

Really? My cell connection continued to work just fine the whole way through, though our Comcast node was, of course, down. Anyway, I do suspect there’ll be a delay in installations, given the current situation.

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

It doesn’t need to be completely useless for you to be wrong here, it just needs to not be objectively vital(and not in some future scenario, but in current MCU2/HW3 implementation). And not even all the visualizations, but specifically the ones MCU2 supports but MCU1 doesn’t. You’re a long way...

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

I said they were new features nobody was expecting to get, and were sent out for free, not that they were found to be useful/desireable by 100% of people who own a Tesla. The rest is venturing too far off topic, so I won’t respond here.
  29. M

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

MCU1. There’s a relatively recent bug where it comes up with a white screen sometimes until you reboot. I presume that’s what he was talking about.
  30. M

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

The browser has a significant new bug on MCU1, but does still exist, and performance is brought up to a level far beyond MCU1 was on any firmware. Having had v8, I don’t find the current software any slower. There have always been similar hesitations and low frame rates while scrolling. (And, of...

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

In all fairness, the new functionality of the MCU2 wasn’t ever promised for MCU1. This is all brand new functionality nobody expected to get until they suddenly did. And these features aren’t alone in that. Camper mode, dog mode, the basic Atari games, Spotify streaming, improved voice...

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

Maybe if @verygreen or someone could test that out? Presumably it should just be: unplug the tuner, start everything up, see what the software does. If it just shows up without the radio, then it’s at least highly likely they’d just go that route. Doesn’t make much sense to spend money adding...

I’d recommend bugging them constantly during any periods where you’re waiting on something(for example, permission to operate paperwork after the install is done). I went into much more detail in the service and communications(out of main) thread, but they can sometimes be pretty bad about...

Service and communication (out of main)

It was verified to be a mismatch in my email. Took a week for them to find and fix it... for the solar panels. The powerwall is still a no-show, presumably for the same reason.

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

A reminder to those complaining: You don’t actually have to buy the upgrade. Even for FSD, the only features you’ll be missing are some additional visualizations on the IC; something that was never promised to be part of it. You can feel free to keep your MCU1 if FM/AM/XM are that important to you.
  36. M

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

True, but it’s looking like MCU upgrade is necessary for some of the visualizations for new stuff in FSD(cones, for one)

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

Early April for just the FSD computer per that support page. Sounds like you can jump the line to late March if you upgrade to both FSD and MCU2 at the same time. I’ll probably go ahead and do the upgrade. Sentry Mode/dash cam plus better responsiveness are worth it for me. Losing FM is weird...

Kinda OT: Saw a Model Y(blue AWD) driving on the 880 with manufacturer plates yesterday while heading up to Oakland. Assumed it was a Model X at first but then noticed the chrome delete upturned door handles and realized what I was looking at. My first time seeing one in person.

Not to mention that 27% is heavily skewed towards sections of the country where Tesla ownership is low. If you’re in CA, like most owners are, that figure drops to roughly 0%. That said, yes, hilarious video.

No, a family member was home at the time and saw them there but it was all outside so didn’t take any interaction. I know the inverter was stuck in “standby mode”, but not sure why. (One theory I’ve had is that it’s because we had power outages in between when they installed and when they...

Solar and Powerwall finally work(it took the tech ~20 minutes to fix it after a 2 week wait. Sigh.)! Unfortunately, the app is still showing only the car and the ad thing for solar/powerwall. Tech support is investigating, but I have a feeling it ties back to that same email address mismatch...

I think the key is that everyone else is making electric cars, while Tesla is making an ecosystem. Yes, there's the car itself, but there's also the software, Autopilot(I keep that as separate), Superchargers, regular OTA updates, etc. With everyone else, it's: "Welp, here's the car. Enjoy...

If you think about it, "possible cases" is whatever you want it to be. It's possible, to some degree for any given person to have it. You could say there's 30,000,000 possible cases of coronavirus in CA and would technically be correct.

Don't take it personally. We've had a lot of people over the years who've pretended to care about the company with concerns but later turned out to be trying to foment doubt. It's made some of us quick to jump to conclusions about new people posting their doubts.

In all fairness, it shouldn't be at all surprising that there were first time buyers of TSLA who bought in the 900's and are hurting now, particularly those for whom this is a first investment. @EVFan888 A good exercise would be to look back at this forum circa first half of 2019. Oh, hey, they actually mentioned the trend that there's always fewer sales in January vs December. Usually such articles just blindly assume sales dropped because of a "demand problem"
