    New 2024 model y 1st tesla owner

Congratulations on the new car! I'm sure you'll enjoy it as much as the rest of us do ours. By the way, what color was dirt when it was new? JK, couldn't resist an old joke. :D

    WTB Dreamcase Model S

Provided I can find mine, I have a set of unused ones. If you're interested I'll look for them when I get home next weekend.

Autopilot is useless on non-highway roads.

Yes. We have the same issue here in the US. Fortunately, FSD Beta allows speed signs to be overridden, up to 85 mph (137 kph). It's one of the few real benefits of owning FSD at the moment. :D

Tesla employeed killed in crash involving FSD?

Ah, new info to me. Thanks! :) I like the double-pull. Is there a way to enable TACC when single-pull is enabled?
  5. SSonnentag

Tesla employeed killed in crash involving FSD?

Wrenching control away from FSD still leaves TACC active today. I do this all the time in problem areas that I drive where FSD wants to swerve me out of my lane.

Electrify America Fast Chargers - Huh?

We're planning a road trip to SW Colorado this summer. To get ready I purchased a CCS adapter and started getting set up with various 3rd party charging providers. Yikes! Electrify America prices are ridiculous! I guess they'll be my last choice for charging.

This issue was fixed years ago for all models.

What are your home electricity rates?

9.5 cents per kWh, effective rate is 13.5 cents after all, the taxes and fees.

    Normal mileage for a tire?

Blowouts tend to be caused by hitting things such as potholes and curbs or running with under inflated tires. Not many places are hotter than where I live in SW Arizona. 🥵

    Normal mileage for a tire?

I’ve had two sets of Michelin CrossClimate 2 tires from Discount Tire. They wear great and look cool. 😎 Great year-round traction, including winter mountain peak rated.

How much MPG when charging off a generator?

So Chevy manages to get more than double your calculations somehow. Must be magic?
  12. SSonnentag

How much MPG when charging off a generator?

Probably in the mid 40's. My Chevy Volt got 44 mpg on its generator.

    Camera blinded/degraded warnings at night

It happens fairly regularly. I find it happens most around dusk, the time of day when everything looks gray and flat. Of course, during rain/show/mud events things go bad regularly. Blinding sunlight causes issues as well, usually around sunrise and sunset. And then there are those few occasions...

any recommendations for reliable air inflator

I carry this small Dewalt unit in the frunk. It comes with a nice case. It can take any current Dewalt battery or use the included 12V cord. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07H39S9JQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

    Tesla Compact Hatch Coming?

Yep, if Tesla does attempt to keep the price down, the range will definitely be down as well.

    Model Y speedometer error

It's not really an issue, it's just that I'm switching from the 21" wheels to 18" and would like to figure out which tire size will give me the most accurate speedometer while I'm at it. There are a few different tire size options with minimal tire diameter variations of about 27.9-28.6 inches.
  17. SSonnentag

    Model Y speedometer error

The stock tire sizes are the MYP are what I'm running. They're different diameter front and rear. Speedo reads high. When speedometer reads 55 I'm doing 54. At 75 I'm really only doing 73ish. GPS on phone for comparison, which is extremely accurate when using cruise control on straight sections...

    Model Y speedometer error

The speedometer in my MYP reads 2% low vs. GPS. Does anyone know whether the speed is read from the front or the rear wheels? The front tires have a 0.6 inch (15 mm) smaller diameter than the rear tires. I'm wondering if increasing the front tires by 2% to match the size of the rear tires will...

GPS Not working. Brand new Model Y.

Mine was never repaired, just fixed by an OTA update. Rebooting did seem to help mine regain functionality, at least for a while, until it was completely fixed by an update.

GPS Not working. Brand new Model Y.

I had this issue in my 2017 Model S back in early 2018, but it fixed itself after an update. I've not had any issue with my 10/2023 Model Y so far.

Recurring Registration Fees and EAP/FSD Purchase Bundling

I don't know about other states/areas, but here in Arizona I just discovered that the yearly registration fee is based upon the purchase price of the vehicle. So if you buy the car with either EAP or FSD, you'll end up paying more every year for registration. If you buy the software after the...

Is the MY the best Tesla vehicle?

Either you're exaggerating tremendously, not driven many vehicles or you've only driven a messed up YP. It's not possible for the best selling vehicle to also be the worst handling, or the worst at anything actually. Which leave no option other than you're not being honest or had a one-off bad...

Is the MY the best Tesla vehicle?

I can tell you that the 2023 MYP handles like a go cart in comparison to my 2017 S100D and 2018 X100D. It has no noticeable body roll and the suspension is tight and quiet, yet compliant on most roads. I've never driven a 3P, but I can't imagine it being much of an improvement in handling over...

Is the MY the best Tesla vehicle?

In just about every practical metric, the Model Y is superior to the 3. The only areas the 3 exceeds the Y is in efficiency (smaller frontal area), nimbleness (lighter and lower) and slightly quicker acceleration. The Y exceeds the 3 in ease of ingress and egress, visibility, cargo capacity and...

    Received 47kWh charged for 54kWh

They're charging for the amount of electricity they provided. Charging has a bit of heat loss inefficiency. If your heater was on the car doesn't show that power as going into the battery. Depending on the type and age of your car, that could be all the way up to 12kW of power draw (Model X...

    Model Year 2024 Model Y

I'm glad I got one of the last 2023 VINs. Insurance and registration are both less going forward for the same vehicle.

Tesla reneges on trade in value long before 30 expiration or 1000 miles - just before delivery.

Sometimes they make adjustments based upon accident history.

    Satonic Soft Close Frunk

I went ahead and ordered the Teslasy soft close kit. Yeah, it cost more, but they actually respond to questions. Their website sure is annoying though, with those constant "someone from somewhere just purchased something" popup messages.

Now that NACS is becoming the standard, do you think highway restaurants will start installing charging options?

Level 2 chargers are more likely, especially once the business owner(s) and employees start buying EVs. They need chargers that allow fees so that they can at least break even on the electricity expense though. Maybe they could work out a system where you get electricity discount code on your...

    Satonic Soft Close Frunk

I tried the manual release when I installed the kit and it worked. I never used it since though. I didn't get this particular brand and don't know what brand I did install, so ... not very helpful. 🤷‍♂️

    Door handle repair question

    OEM 19's running 245/45-19. Lifetime Wh/mile 315.

    Satonic Soft Close Frunk

I think the kits utilize the OEM release motor and their own latching/soft-close motor. The one I installed on my S includes a manual release cable in case something fails. There is an OEM manual release cable as well, but the kit I got replaced it. (Tesla Model S)

What knowledge do we have about best tires for range efficiency and low road noise?

The only downside to CC2's is that they are directional, so can't be fully rotated. They're the longest-wearing tire I had on my S.

Comfort Suspension Not Much of an Improvement

2023 MYP rides fine with no “booming” in my experience. So it’s either subjective or inconsistent across vehicles.

Model S owners give me your insights

Door handles and inner-door window mechanisms fail with some regularity. In 6 years and 194,000 miles I went through 5 door handles and 2 window internals. (2017 S 100D) Suspension clunks in the front are annoying, but ultimately harmless. Vibration in the frontend during moderate to hard...

I found an easy way to block the passenger dash vent.

Not when there is a passenger in the seat. It only allows shutting it off when the seat is empty.

    Tesla Hates Nevada

I have the same issue every time I want to drive north to visit family. The first map is what I want to be able to drive vs. the second map, what I'm forced to drive because Nevada is hated by Tesla.

FSD Owners - Do any of you prefer leaving it off?

Interesting points you made. I just bought a 2023 MYP and sold my 2017 S 100D. Both have FSD Beta. Where the S was constantly having false braking and swerving for highway exit lanes, the Y is a dream. I have not had any phantom braking or diving for exit lanes that don't exist in nearly 1000...

    Proper time to check PSI.

Cold, before the sun hits the tires. The tire pressure should never go lower than the recommended pressure. So if you drive to work dark and early while it's freezing outside, your tire pressure should be set properly at those conditions before starting your drive. Tire pressure will rise 3-5...
