FSD 12.3.3 first drive - safe, super boring

I took a couple hour freeway drive yesterday and tried FSD again. I had EAP on my 2018 Models 3, but not my current 2023 Model 3. For a while I was thinking "this is a lot better than EAP was on my old tesla" as it did a good job with following distance and smoother lane changes than it used...

FSD 12.3.3 first drive - safe, super boring

I played with it yesterday and today and that was my experience. It did many things really, really well. But a few things it did poorly (taking a sharp ramp way too fast and getting us pretty close to a concrete wall) and it was more stressful to monitor it than it was just to drive myself.

    Car Key Evolution-what's next ?

Does any car aside from Tesla use phone as unlock? 2018 is a fairly long time ago in tech terms, but I'm still the only person I know who doesn't carry a car key/fob.

    Retrofit heated steering wheel ?

I had a 2018 Model 3 as well, and now have a 2022 with one and I love it. If I could only have either the heated steering wheel or the heated seats, I'd take the heated steering wheel.

$2 per mile, Tesla safety score insurance hike 50%

I do not use an insurance company that tracks my driving/data like that. I know many do and are happy with it, but that is where I draw a line on privacy.

Ordering my new baby. What should I watch out for upon pickup? What accessories would you get right away?

I agree with this. In my 2018 M3 I replaced the trunk lights with LED, but haven't done anything with the 2022 M3 except floor mats. I think the "notorious for fit an finish" is way overblown as well.

Current M3 owner is looking for another Tesla

I'd choose the Model Y in a heartbeat for the same price. The extra features of the S don't do much for me, but the larger rear storage on the Y is something I would find valuable. I'd also prefer the longer range of the Y and the extra warranty/less wear on the Y compared to the S.

Efficiency: 2018 LR RWD vs 2022 LR AWD

I'm curious - has there been an improvement in the motor efficiency over the years? I had a 2018 LR RWD with a lifetime average of 257 Wh/mi over ~60k miles. It was in an accident and I replaced it in the fall with a 2022 LR AWD. I expected with AWD that efficiency would drop a bit, but it's...

    changing headlights on model 3

We hit a deer with our 2022 M3 and broke the headlight (luckily nothing else). Tesla price for the light itself was ~$1200, though you can find on ebay for ~$250. I debated buying off ebay and installing myself (you still need to have Tesla program the light), but opted to have Tesla do it...

Tesla App showing different kWh than car

Watts = Volts * Amps, so the app is showing 13A x 223V = 2.899 kW and the car is showing 13A x 225V = 2.925 kW. As others have said, I'd guess that he app truncates the decimals to get 2 and the car rounds to get 3.

Model 3 Accident Repair - Rear Right

Headlight glass broke - repair? Or replace entire headlight?

In may I wrecked my 2018 model 3, but was luck enough to replace it and took deliver of a new Model 3 at the end of September. Sadly, over the weekend my wife was driving and a deer jumped onto the road in front of her while she was going ~60 mph. Hard braking almost avoided contact, but the...

Birds eye visualizations after latest update?

Interesting. I've had a couple rental cars with 360 cameras and I prefer the Tesla backup camera. The 360 camera is cool technology, but I didn't find it very useful for helping me drive.

Is it me, but are 2018-2020s are better builds than 2021/22s?

We're at pretty close to an ideal time of year here for efficiency (not much heating or cooling needed), but I've been getting better efficiency with the 2022 than my 2018. My lifetime average with the 2018 was 257 Wh/mi over ~50k miles and on the 2022 I've averaged 230 Wh/mi (206 miles). I...

Is it me, but are 2018-2020s are better builds than 2021/22s?

I'm similar - I had a 2018 with 50k miles on it. It as in an accident and I just replaced it with a 2022. The 2022 is quieter. The center console is also better on the 2022 and everything else feels about the same.

New blended brake feature not present on 2018 Model 3

I just picked up my new Tesla yesterday and noticed this in the setting. That's great! We've been saying since 2018 that this would be a useful feature. In the winter, one-pedal driving is a little bit different every day depending how cold it is.

Picked up my car yesterday. Smooth experience. It was a little odd that since I was a previous Model 3 owner the agent just took us out to the parking lot to show us which car was ours and then walked back inside. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but something a little more formal. I spent...

    Tesla Tires at Costco

When I replaced my MSM4 with Pilot Sports, they originally didn't want to do it because of a difference in speed rating (V vs W maybe? it's been a while). But Then a manager approved that they could install tires that were one letter lower in speed rating. Given that my Tesla was never over...

Model 3 - LR AWD Waiting Room

To me, it's not worth the cost. Small enough rocks won't damage the paint even without PPF and large enough sill damage in even with PPF. So there is a size range in the middle that it will help with, but the expense is too high for me. (YMMV, of course!)

My EDD had moved to the first couple weeks of October even after I got a VIN# assigned last week. But then I got a text yesterday to schedule pickup of the car. So I'm scheduled for next Sunday, 9/25. Hoping for the best and looking forward to getting back into a Tesla.

Good to know - I just looked on plugshare and there are quite a few. I assume CCS will become the standard for road trips at some point as well. You have Tesla installing superchargers and Ford/BMW/VW/Kia/etc. behind CCS.

I'm in Columbus (7/17 OD) and would have chosen white, but my wife didn't like white so I went with MSM. I'm now regretting that choice. :) My 2018 Model 3 was black, and I like the black with the black trim of the newer models, but I didn't like it for $1000.

    Car likely totaled

Yep - I know this model is easier for Tesla, but it really is not customer friendly. With my first car (RIP) I was a day 1 reservation holder. Over 2 years later when my turn came up I was going to be out of town on vacation and they would not move the date even just a couple days for me to...

    Car likely totaled

No shockers here, but the Prius is.... not a Tesla. It does the job - a comfortable, fuel efficient ride to and from work. From a pure monetary point of view, a better investment than a Tesla. But it sucks to drive. Making a right turn on red onto a road with a 40 mph speed limit I have to...

    Car likely totaled

I ordered a LR-AWD on July 17 with a Sept or Oct - December delivery date. I'm now at Jan-April and I suspect there is nothing you can do relative to the $250 deposit. Similarly I had my dad's suburban for a couple months (the anti-Tesla! not what you want to drive at $5/gal gas this summer)...

What did you name your Tesla?

Lews Therin has been my gamertag/avatar for decades, so that was the name of my Tesla. Sadly, it died in a crash recently. So the next Tesla will have to be the Dragon Reborn.
