    Doug DeMuro: “tremendously expensive”

RE: TCO, let’s look at only fuel costs which is a massive portion of truck ownership, and let’s make rosy assumptions for the truck. Let’s assume 15000 miles per year for 15 years of ownership and do NPV at 3%. Gas: $3.50/gallon, 22.5 mpg = 10k gallons = $35k raw costs = ~$28k NPV EV...

This truck design had better be a joke....

Here's my shitty Microsoft Paint attempt. My main issue is the triangle roof, and I feel that a flat roof/trapezoid solves this. Both of these alternatives keeps triangulation through the body (although through the B and C pillars instead of through a giant C pillar/roof combo) and maintains...

Any Volt to Model 3 Experiences?

Minor point that auto-wiping is available now and single wipe action is available on the stalk. I still would prefer to see more options via the stalk. Agreed, but since I only use Android Auto for navigation I don't have this issue. I do have the issue that you can't turn off Sirius traffic...

Any Volt to Model 3 Experiences?

It's probably not worth talking about it on a forum dedicated to one of the two brands :), but personally I think it depends on your priorities. Things that I like more on the Volt Premier (keeping in mind that I've only played with a showroom Model 3): Google Play Music / Apple CarPlay are...

Any Volt to Model 3 Experiences?

The rear seating position in both vehicles is quite compromised. In the Volt the hatchback glass/frame extends too far forward so folks who are ~6'0" start to hit their head. However the seats are fairly comfortable though cramped. In the 3 Tesla seems to have "solved" the headroom issue in...

    Venting about future steering wheel

The TMC forums - where you'll be told that all design decisions are okay if they're centered around full autonomy but to always keep your hands at 10 and 2 :)

    Cancelling my reservation

I'm not against Care By Volvo, and was recently even considering it, but it's worth talking about a few points: Maintenance is not a major concern on a 2-3 year lease You can negotiate $0 down on a lease too Insurance is included - IMO this is the only significant financial difference from a...

Don't cancel your M3 just yet....

Petition to change this forum to a micro-house, car-free, vegan, child-free, locavore discussion board, because if those aren't your only priorities you're a climate change denier.

    Cancelling my reservation

I think saying "this is good for Tesla since they're maximizing profits" is considering Tesla in a vacuum. First off, it ignores opportunity cost. I'm willing to bet that consumer "stickiness" is largely correlated with preferred configuration cost e.g. customers who wanted the base model...

Don't cancel your M3 just yet....

Yes, and then the board will be friendly to a merger, no? They certainly still have legal fiduciary duties for the minority shareholders, but what prevents a sale/merger at this point? Or is this where freeze-out laws apply (which vary by state)?

Cabin noise comparison: 12/2017 Model S vs 1/2018 Model 3

@run-the-joules - If you have time, I would love to see this done on rough highways given that I live in a state with cement highways :/ Great post!

Cabin noise comparison: 12/2017 Model S vs 1/2018 Model 3

To clarify, both S's and your Model 3 are all worse than a Volt? At all speeds? On both rough and smooth surfaces?

    Cancelling my reservation

There are hybrid versions of all of those SUVs AFAIK. The XC60 T8 even has 15-20 miles plug-in range and is a beast. Also, the XC40 just came out, and while it's a little too uber-trendy-urban for me, it looks like a great smaller SUV (although the front suspension is worse than the XC60 and...

POLL: If the GOP tax reform kills the $7500 tax credit, will you still buy?

This ignores the secondary market. Presumably buying new is correlated with higher household income (I hope :/ ).

POLL: If the GOP tax reform kills the $7500 tax credit, will you still buy?

Good point RE: retirees, but otherwise I would feel pretty stressed getting a car that was such a large percentage of my annual compensation, even a good car with low fueling costs. Granted I'm a cheapskate

POLL: If the GOP tax reform kills the $7500 tax credit, will you still buy?

What? It's a credit not a deduction. I'd imagine 99% of people who are buying a Tesla (even the 3) probably have a federal tax liability of over $7500. Or maybe you mean that they think it's instantaneous, but at the same time if you can't float the 20% loan payment difference for 15 months...

POLL: If the GOP tax reform kills the $7500 tax credit, will you still buy?

Yep, I live close to the center of town and don't drive far so I suspect ~75% of my driving will be in EV mode. Only road-trips will put me over that.

POLL: If the GOP tax reform kills the $7500 tax credit, will you still buy?

Late day 1, Oregon, non-owner. I'll let you know where to send my gift basket. I'm technically keeping the reservation, but it's unlikely I'll pull the trigger.

POLL: If the GOP tax reform kills the $7500 tax credit, will you still buy?

I'm going to buy a 2018 Volt this month for the tax credit (don't like the Bolt). That will give me a few years to wait on the Model 3, not stress about early reliability, etc. I know this is likely to get flamed since it's a hybrid, but I think it's the best choice for my finances/risk tolerance.

Tax Bill and EV Tax Credit Discussion

Is there any reason to call your representatives if you live in a very liberal state? I doubt there's anything that Democrats can do since the tax bill is simply an exercise in getting all the Republicans on board. If this were the Clinton era there would be a reason, but I think cross party...

    When can I drive one?

Once deliveries really start happening we should get a community test drive thread going. I'd happily pay someone for the privilege. Heck I'd pay a little just to poke around at the interior and then be driven around for a bit if they don't trust me driving.

Tax Bill and EV Tax Credit Discussion

That includes quite a bit of EV/PHEV/Hybrid production. I know that the Leaf line is in TN and Kia does almost all of their manufacturing in the south (GA, TN), including their hybrid lines. I agree with the lack of political motivation, but it's more about denying environmental concerns, not...

Tesla vs Volvo xc60 T8 vs Cadillac ct6 Super Cruise

This thread has been very helpful. I wonder if anyone has any thoughts on the S90 T8? Looks like most folks have the SUVs, but I prefer sedans/wagons. I really wish the V90/V60 T8 was available in the USA. I'm debating between this or waiting for the Model 3 (as well as a few other cars that...
