    UMC-J1772 TeslaTap adapter Reviews

I agree the CAN is the way to go, if you want to spend the money. I bought a Tesla Tap and I use it with my home Tesla Wall Charger v2 and with destination chargers when I'm out and about. It's a pain having to use two adapters, but I have had no issues with the unit. I've never felt any heat...

3 tips to significantly increase range in winter and message for Tesla

This is a very interesting discussion! I live in Tidewater Virginia, so not so applicable to me, but I like the science of it all.

    UMC-J1772 TeslaTap adapter Reviews

I decided to give the TeslaTap adapter a try. My setup is overly complicated, but works fine so far. I attach the TeslaTap to my Tesla HPC, then attach my J1772-to-Roadster adapter to that. One caution on the instructions that came with the TeslaTap is worth noting: "Make sure that you plug the...

    UMC-J1772 TeslaTap adapter Reviews

Do any of you have information on the UMC-J1772 TeslaTap adapter (Tesla destination charger-to-J1772)? TeslaTap The price is only $250, but it has max 40 amp limit and I've heard that it does not always work with Tesla destination chargers (but apparently is good with Tesla home chargers)...

USB for Navi update and Music playback

Whoa! Thanks, @Peter.h. I definitely don't want to get into that much work on my own!

Charging the Roadster with the Yellow 120V cable...

Ha! Just go ahead and rub it in, @AEdennis! Southern Cal has to be the best place to own a Roadster! Here in Virginia, it's either to cold or too humid -- not too many ideal Roadster days.

USB for Navi update and Music playback

A related question: Has anyone replaced their 2.5 Alpine unit with a modern unit? How complicated was the upgrade? (Plug-and-play, or rewiring needed?). How expensive?

USB for Navi update and Music playback

I opened the console and dug a little deeper. I finally found both the 30 pin connector and the USB connector. I pushed the 30pin back into the console, leaving the USB connector exposed. Now I plug in my iPhone using a USB-Lightning cord. Works fine. Next step may be to try to install a more...

Jeff Dahn's recommendation on long term battery preservation

Thanks @dhrivnak. There seems to be a general acceptance of 32A as the way to go.

Jeff Dahn's recommendation on long term battery preservation

Thanks @Snowstorm. Ah, I hate to show more ignorance, but ... there's a phone app for the Roadster??

Jeff Dahn's recommendation on long term battery preservation

By the way, how do I set my car to charge to 70%?

Is there a video explaining the operation of the Alpine IVA-NAV-10?

Thanks! I think I remember coming across something about the handbrake, etc. I'll give that a try.

Is there a video explaining the operation of the Alpine IVA-NAV-10?

Hmmm, I opened the center console and fished out the iPod connector, but I didn't see a USB connector. Should it be there? I can open it up again and dig deeper.

Is there a video explaining the operation of the Alpine IVA-NAV-10?

Okay, you guys are really helping! Next question: How do I delete the former owner's iPhones and pair my iPhone to the car?

Is there a video explaining the operation of the Alpine IVA-NAV-10?

Thanks - I found a couple of useful videos there, but not a lot of detail. Thanks, @thefortunes. The first question that comes to mind is about the iPod connector. I think I threw away my multi-pin iPod years ago, and anyway, the plug seems to be missing from my Roadster (just bought it). Is...

Jeff Dahn's recommendation on long term battery preservation

Ah, good point on battery cooling, @BartJ. I assume that on Storage charging, the current level is low enough that battery heating is not an issue?

Is there a video explaining the operation of the Alpine IVA-NAV-10?

I'm reading the owner's manual on the Alpine IVA-NAV-10. I'm confused about some of the features -- how they work, are they actually available, etc. I have a 2010 Roadster 2.5. Does anyone have a link to a video that goes through the setup and operation? Thanks!

Jeff Dahn's recommendation on long term battery preservation

I'm more interested in how FAST to charge my 2010 Roadster. I've seen all kinds of comments, but I'm still unsure if it's better to charge slowly or quickly (i.e., lower or higher amperage). Are there expert opinions on charging rate?

USB for Navi update and Music playback

I just bought a 2.5 with the Alpine double DIN. I called Alpine support to see if a nav update was available and was told that as of early 2017 they no longer support the IVA-NAV-10. Would love to convert the old plug to one that works with current iPhones!

That helps clarify the matter. Thanks!

    Roadster 2.5 charging amperage

I want to caution you about using a high amp breaker for a multiple charger circuit. Let's say you install two wall chargers on a single breaker. Your plans are to charge both your Teslas (lucky you!) at the same time. You plan to charge each at 40A, so you installed a 100A breaker to control...

Where can I order a front license plate bracket? My Roadster never had one...

rdstr, I just bought a 2010 Roadster and live in Virginia, which requires front plates. I'd like to make a bracket like yours. What's the dia/thread size of the tow bolt hole? Thanks!

    Roadster 2.5 charging amperage

Great advice. Thanks, everyone! I'm fortunate to have my breaker panel next to my garage door. I'll mount the charger there, so the wiring will be simple, and I can charge inside or outside the garage. I assume that if I really needed to charge in a hurry for some reason, the Roadster would...

    Roadster 2.5 charging amperage

Thanks, gregd and dhrivnak! I have a high powered wall connector, but from what you're saying, I'm better off staying at 40 A or less. Just a thought: does it make sense to install heavier wire in case I end up with a Model 3 someday? I could use a 50A breaker for now, but have wiring good for...

    Roadster 2.5 charging amperage

I just bought a 2010 Roadster 2.5 and am waiting for it to be shipped. I downloaded a manual showing it can charge at up to 70 amps, but the seller charges at 40. What is the max charging amps you recommend? Thanks!
