    SCE: TOU-D 4-9pm or TOU-D Prime

Good call thanks, I thought I had cut out all the PII :O That's reassuring, I certainly have enough storage that I can export during peak.

Well, I guess this is finally happening. The price increase is quite a bit, so I'll have to see what the best new configuration is for my power walls. I just got this notice today from SCE:

    SCE Rate Plans changing 3/1/19?

Almost two years exactly I re-checked the rate calculator and it's even worse compared to my original post. Since then I've added a 3rd powerwall and more solar to max out my inverter, which means the rate comparison tool isn't 100% accurate for me. I'm nearly 100% self powered these days...

Powerwall 2 Available Energy After 2 Years

Not sure if this is affecting you, but it's an easy thing to check. One thing I have noticed in my install is that the canbus wiring was a bit shoddy from my installers and caused a powerwall to not register correctly. They're mounted in the corner of my garage with the status lights facing...

[Corona, CA] Local Model Y Owners

Hey All, I wanted to see if there were any Model Y owners local to Corona, CA that wouldn't mind me dropping by to look at the car in person? I want to compare some dimensions with our current Honda CRV and to see in general what the car looks like. Feel free to DM me if you're open to this!

    SCE Rate Plans changing 3/1/19?

I have a 10.89 kW DC system. (33x 330W panels) I'm not sure how SCE calculates these values, as my current bills show that I actually don't have any energy credits. My guess is that it goes off of a full year TOU cycle. My current cycle ends in June, so we'll see if the numbers drastically...

    SCE Rate Plans changing 3/1/19?

I'm debating on whether or not to add a bit more solar to my existing setup this year (still 26% credit). We do have an EV and 2x Powerwalls already. When I get pushed off of TOU-D-A my rates will jump quite a bit per year:

    SolarEdge Inverter Monitoring Interval

Are you sure that it's using the lan connection for data? I had both a cell card and ethernet, I had to switch the data connection to ethernet for the higher speeds to take effect.

My proposed system can't power my AC

When I ran my test I didn't check how much solar I was producing unfortunately. I'd have to do more testing around that.
  14. C

My proposed system can't power my AC

When I say "fire up" I mean the AC condenser. At no point in my experiments did the powerwalls stop producing power or shut down. Without solar, and 100% on battery power the house browns out (even with a properly rated and installed SureStart) When the house browns out the thermostat...

My proposed system can't power my AC

It would be my regular house loads, so probably ~1kW It doesn't help that my unit is 13 years old, I'm sure the starting current has gone up since it was new. Once it kicks the bucket I'm definitely moving to an inverter/variable speed unit.

My proposed system can't power my AC

I bought mine from here: Sure Start SS1B16-32SN (16-32 RLA) – Ziller Electric I use it on a 5 ton AC 2006 Trane XR 13 LRA 148 RLA 25 With 2 powerwalls and the soft start the system won't fire up. However, if my solar is producing the little bit of extra power is enough to get the whole...

    Powerwall Install Design

I see two options: 1) Derate your main breaker further and adhere to the 120% rule 2017 NEC 705.12(B)(3)(b) You would need to do a load calculation and submit that to make sure this option is available to you. I assume you have a 7.6kW inverter that puts out 32A The next size up is a 10kW...
  18. C

    Powerwall Install Design

Both of you would be correct here, I completely forgot about that. I almost always see the 120% rule mentioned so I forget about the other options. The gateway is indeed on a 125A breaker.

    Powerwall Install Design

While I do value @wwhitney's posts here, he's quite knowledgeable, I would defer to your AHJ. They are the source of truth. My dad got the same setup permitted with two powerwalls and 50A of solar backfeed, he's in LA county (vs me in Riverside county) his inspectors passed it too. In reality...

    Powerwall Install Design

My install got signed off by my AHJ so it worked out... But from what I understand since the batteries don't back feed to the grid (or at least aren't supposed to) they aren't considered in the backfeed calculations. (This is what my installer told me, didn't verify with the inspector since...

    Powerwall Install Design

I like this final plan, the only thing I would add is to go up one more size on the generation panel in case you decide to add another powerwall down the line. It's very cheap to get a 200A panel for the generation side that would allow 60A of solar + up to 4 additional powerwalls at 30A each...

Powerwall 2 + UPS Connundrum - and solution

@wbhokie I was able to do a bit more testing this afternoon. I shut off my main breaker and let the powerwalls takeover the house. Solar was on, and putting out 4.8kW of power, 4.2kW of which was going to the batteries. At 97% the AC frequency went high and the inverter detected that and...

Powerwall 2 + UPS Connundrum - and solution

Well I purpose bought these UPSs because my monitors are quite sensitive to the power cutover. They would turn off and back on during a flip. Since installing these I haven't had any of those issues, and we've had 2 unplanned outages since. So for me, that's a win. In terms of "kicking off" -...

Powerwall 2 + UPS Connundrum - and solution

Yep, they're working great. I haven't done a full suite of testing though. Not sure how they'll perform during a daytime outage when the powerwalls are frequency shifting to shut down the inverter. For a standard flip they've proven themselves for me.

Powerwall/Solar Edge behavior in power outage

I too have a SolarEdge HD 7600 inverter. Mine will shut down when the power gets flipped but the readout on it says it will resume in 5m. After the 5m is up the inverter fires up and resumes. When the batteries get full the powerwalls bump the frequency and the inverter slows down. It all...

My opinion on them started out great, I really liked them. But they've dragged out wrapping up all the final details. Powewall peak kw demand question - Zero Net Energy Home

Powewall peak kw demand question - Zero Net Energy Home

According to this spec sheet: https://dms.hvacpartners.com/docs/1009/Public/00/PDS286B-02.pdf Page 7, far right column Your 3 ton condenser calls for a 35A breaker max. In theory you could install a 30A and be within the constraints of the single power wall.

    Stormwatch Failure

Mine is currently running storm watch as well. I can also confirm getting a high wind advisory from weather.com. So maybe it's working as expected? @Az_Rael raises a good point though, maybe it gets it's data from the utility and not weather events? If that's the case it would be really nice...

Tesla / Solar City Horrible Yelp Reviews?? What is y'alls experience with their PV installs?

I've been watching your saga since the beginning of this year, and it totally sucks man. I thought I was going to do poorly going with another installer but it seems like it was less painful in the end (albeit more money). I signed my contract in March, got my solar in May, Powerwalls in July...

    Powerwalls + Air Conditioning

Oh I have looked into it, I got a few quotes to re-do the house with mini splits or a more efficient conventional setup. The quotes ranged from $18k - $24k not anywhere remotely in the cards right now. Especially considering the current AC setup works great, it just draws a lot of power.
  42. C

    Powerwalls + Air Conditioning

I do have the name plate rating, but I also have a soft starter attached to the condenser. Hyper Engineering | Single Phase I need to measure ahead of the soft starter to get an accurate reading. I guess that makes sense in terms of most accurate measurement, I'll borrow a scope and buy a...

    Powerwalls + Air Conditioning

So SCE is doing maintenance in the area today and I took the opportunity to do some more digging on why my setup can't fire up the AC condenser. And I made a little discovery.... I'm actually a little happy that it was two separate conduits now. With the sandwiching one battery gets much hotter than the other, so I'm going to un-stack them and put them side by side after I get my final inspection. Hopefully that should ease the heat gain of the battery that gets hot.

The timing of this post is incredible. I was literally thinking about this last night while I was looking at my bill. Same deal, ~2 months of solar with powerwalls. Only $70 banked in credit though  I had also switched my pool to run at night to use the "cheap" power, but I'm now...

    LA installer

I echo this sentiment, I did get my powerwalls quickly and I did make it into step 2 but I'm still hassling with their install. I called the city today about the whole situation and they ended up un-finalizing the permit, so hopefully that gives me more leverage to get them to come out and...
