They told me they thought it would be fine. They still haven't received my chip. Mail has been understandably slower, especially internationally, since Covid19 hit.

My mail got stuck in Chicago for about 12 days. Looks like it just got to Germany, hopefully Poland in the next day or so. Note: For EU members, you may have better luck fighting Tesla for your certificates, since you can claim that they're making it impossible for third party repairs.

Continuing on this analogy, I would say that this is like taking said tire to Tesla asking for a patch and they instead INSIST that you replace all four tires and rims with refurbished ones at a price that is illogical (ie complete MCU replacement), when Discount Tire could do a free patch. But...

Does anybody know the answer to this? How long can the car be completely disconnected before it will be unable to update the certificates?

I shipped my old eMMC to Poland to see if they could do NAND direct recovery. If I'm recovering all 0s, I'll be surprised if they find anything different. But here's hoping.

Yes. My MCU failed one day while I was at work. Tesla quoted me $3k to replace with a refurb MCU 1. I elected to pull the t3 and send it to a 3rd party for the eMMC swap. Unfortunately, p3 and p4 were present, but all 0s (no data)

Yeah, I suspected I may not get any responses. I was just thinking it'd be nice to have a copy not on the chip to poke around in. The Multi-Com folks think they may be able to recover the data, so we'll see how that goes.

Does anybody have a p3 and p4 copy I could poke around in? I realize there are differences between firmware versions, this is mostly to get an understanding of what exists in those partitions. Obviously not asking for your carkeys or certs or anything else identifiable. PMs appreciated.

@whitex - When the eMMC was read while still on the T3, it showed all 0s as well. I tried the freezing method, but unfortunately no change, still shows up as all 0s for p3 and p4. The car was not in the middle of an OTA update when it failed, so I don't see erase-write cycles being the cause...

@whitex Thank you for the helpful post! When I DDRescue my chip, I get no errors. If I ddrescue the entire chip, it takes a "normal" amount of time. If I ddrescue just p3, it takes maybe 4 seconds. If it wasn't obvious from my previous posts, my emmc was not completely recoverable. I can see p1 and p2, but p3 and p4 just produce 128 mb and about 5 gb of zeros, respectively.

Differences in where data is stored? Differences in formatting partitions? Who knows. Just trying to figure out reasons why I can't find my certificates.

The file system is most definitely damaged, I only see 00s when I look at the hex editor in R studio

To add, here's what happens with mount -t ext3: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdd3, missing codepage or helper program, or other error.

Friends, I've managed to ddrescue partition 3 and I'm in the process of rescuing my entire chip. Now, if I try to kpartx -a the 3rd partition image, it'll create /dev/loop9 then, when I try to mount /dev/loop9, I'm getting an NTFS signature is missing error. Any ideas. I'm not a complete linux...

Has anybody here had luck getting a SC to install certs after putting in a new eMMC? Mine was failed and unrecoverable. What words did you have to say to get them to do it?

Anybody know where I can get the longer torx screws for holding the MCU to the car? One of mine was in bad shape. Also, I had to slot two of the tiny screws that hold the case of the MCU to the screen, and one stripped out pretty bad. Looking for a few of those as well.

Is there anybody near El Paso that can do the eMMC repair? Albuquerque? Phoenix? If not, anybody that I can overnight my chip to and repair/send back? Prices? Any/all help is appreciated.
