New Tesla Service Center - Columbia, SC

I'm guessing it is due to them operating in a bit of a legal grey area.

12.3.4 Intervention within first 3 minutes

You can have it choose a speed automatically, but you can also set it to follow limits or limits with an offset. You don't have to speed with it if you don't want to.

    Tesla Lease South Carolina

AFAIK, that is just a parts distribution center and will not affect the sale of vehicles. Changing the rules for sales would require legislation at the state level, and that seems incredibly unlikely.

    Supercharger-Covington, GA

Is this going to become like Wal-Mart, where they can't put them in the parking lot so they put them in the adjacent parking lot? It is kind of funny that this has happened both here and at Commerce, GA now.

    TeslaMate [megathread]

I'm on teslamate 1.28.3, tesla 2024.3.10, and an Atom. So far, I haven't seen the issue.

    Model Y Competition: Rivian R2 Price & Specs Leaked! -- $47500, 0-60 3 Sec, 330 Miles Range

That makes a lot of sense. Some solve it by having a L2 inlet on both sides, but I'm sure that adds cost.

    Model Y Competition: Rivian R2 Price & Specs Leaked! -- $47500, 0-60 3 Sec, 330 Miles Range

They seem to be focused on getting to hands and eyes free on the highway. I think that's the most immediately useful function anyway.

    Model Y Competition: Rivian R2 Price & Specs Leaked! -- $47500, 0-60 3 Sec, 330 Miles Range

I really don't understand why people are so sceptical of their timeline. They've launched three products into volume production with remarkably few issues. Their production execution of their strength.

    Model Y Competition: Rivian R2 Price & Specs Leaked! -- $47500, 0-60 3 Sec, 330 Miles Range

They aren't as bad off as they appear, tbh. They still have well over $7B. My biggest concern is the early stages of launch can be really expensive. They'll need every $$ at that point.

    Model Y Competition: Rivian R2 Price & Specs Leaked! -- $47500, 0-60 3 Sec, 330 Miles Range

Perhaps unsurprisingly, most of those are issues that Tesla faced as well. Tesla did manage better gross margins, though. Also, Tesla didn't make the mistake of needing an entirely new factory to launch Model 3. Tbh, I still think the timeline for the Georgia plant is Rivian's largest ongoing...

    Model Y Competition: Rivian R2 Price & Specs Leaked! -- $47500, 0-60 3 Sec, 330 Miles Range

Given the shape ground clearance, and range, this might actually be the strongest Model Y competitor so far

Superchargers needed at the N.C. beaches

I've seen low cost builders put in two laundry rooms complete with 14-30r just so the buyer would have options Having an extra outlet is no big deal. The ones at that house are decent grade too. You don't need massive penetration for $100 of parts on a new home to be worthwhile. As others...

Superchargers needed at the N.C. beaches

Tbh, it probably should be code. Afaik, all houses with gas ovens still get a 14-50, just in case they swap to electric. If we can manage that, why not an outlet in the garage? But I'm sure there'd be a lot of pushback.

    Supercharger - Greenville, SC

I'm guessing the other supercharger Is still up? At least I hope so. I wonder if the hotel was getting tired of the constant traffic? It always seemed like an awkward site to use.
  15. J

Supercharger - Pooler, GA - Pooler Parkway

Yeah, there are lots of great options now. I do wish there was another one between Brunswick and Savannah, but it isn't a large gap anyway.

USA MY RWD has soft limited LR battery!

I'm not aware of one. The best way to minimize the error margin is a larger charging session.

Tesla recalls 200,000 vehicles over backup camera glitch

I use android. All the Apple People tell me that ios is better because it gets more updates. I guess they are wrong. Why does it need so many updates if it is the best?!?!!?

Supercharger failure - Oak Brook Mall (dead Teslas?)

IMO, Hertz got ahead of the curve a bit with some of this. It turns out that it is easier to add cars to a rental fleet than it is to add enough chargers to a city. They were also quicker than organic sales in some areas. If anything, I might blame them. But either way, the fixes are mostly the...

Supercharger failure - Oak Brook Mall (dead Teslas?)

I've seen stations shut down for weeks at a time due to issues with their underground storage tanks. They don't have responsibility to their customers for that. Their responsibility to their financial backing was likely a bigger issue. Of course, there were three other stations within 1 mile of...

Are you sure those are for Teslamate and not the db container?
  22. J

    TeslaMate [megathread]

Sorry, I meant the "Fleet API". It is documented here: Tesla Fleet API
  23. J

    TeslaMate [megathread]

The owner's API is now officially documented. They might change API limits or something, but I can't imagine they would shut it down.
  24. J

    TeslaMate [megathread]

AFAIK, it is only the command API that is being shut down. Teslamate shouldn't be impacted.

Chicago area superchargers failing in cold

Yeah, rideshare has been a pretty good market for Tesla, and they've been working hard to improve infrastructure for it. I'd bet they learn from this and improve. The supercharging teams is fantastic.
  26. J

Chicago area superchargers failing in cold

They are getting rid of less than half of their fleet and still doing a lot of rentals in other markets. TBH, I heard about the prices and thought there might be good deals, but I don't think so. The cheaper ones are high mileage and beat up. The lower mileage ones are not as cheap, but still...

Chicago area superchargers failing in cold

Oh, that would make a huge difference. I think sites like that are far less likely to devolve into chaos, since even a long line will tend to move pretty quickly. Also, I heard today that Chicago's Hertz locations are suspending EV rentals? I'm guessing this will help over the next few days, if...

Chicago area superchargers failing in cold

I'm really surprised that there aren't more large stations in the area already. LA has far more stations and a lot more large stations. Both would be really helpful right now. Hopefully this serves as a wakeup call and they start planning some.

    Supercharger - Oak Brook, IL

TBH, at the beginning of it, it all looked very suspicious to me too. But in the end, most of the root causes are pretty "nerd level 9000" type things. I can't blame the media for not taking that angle. So far, the coverage has been decent overall. The real bad reporting will come later, when...

Vendor Tesla Model S Battery Extended Service Plans from 057 Technology

Yeah, other than the warranty aspect, recell seems like it is priced very well. The lower range packs for the 3 seem like a great way to keep an older vehicle going for a reasonable price.

Chicago area superchargers failing in cold

I remember noticing this in las Vegas. Lots of ubers, lyftd, and rentals. It would keep chargers busy at all hours when they otherwise wouldn't have been crowded. It is proving to be a lot harder to get the needed infrastructure work done in cities than in more rural or suburban areas, tbh.
  32. J

Supercharger failure - Oak Brook Mall (dead Teslas?)

Some are suspecting a city utility issue. If that's the case, it may be that those aren't working well either.
  33. J

Chicago area superchargers failing in cold

That was my first thought as well when seeing the initial pictures. But it sounds like this is only the ones very close to Chicago, and those dense urban locations tend to get very different usage patterns anyway. It is still odd that so many people seem to be parking in spots that block the...

Vendor Tesla Model S Battery Extended Service Plans from 057 Technology

That'd be nice, but I'm guessing that the business' proprietary information went with the sale.
  35. J

Supercharger - Pooler, GA - Pooler Parkway

It is highly congested, but I still end up stopping in the area sometimes due to the dining options.
  36. J

New Tesla Service Center - Columbia, SC

I wondered if that might work. The wording is that they can't "own a facility", but what about leasing or renting? Unless the "facility" is the business itself, this seems like it technically should be allowed? It still wouldn't shock me if a lawsuit results.
  37. J

New Tesla Service Center - Columbia, SC

That's odd. I wonder if it is a temporary limitation?

USA MY RWD has soft limited LR battery!

I've also updated to Michelin cc2 tires and that cuts into range as well. But this is all pretty insignificant. If I wasn't measuring it, I might not have noticed. The real world impact is 5-10 minutes longer at superchargers on days with 5+ hours of driving. I think we overstate the...

USA MY RWD has soft limited LR battery!

Oh, that is interesting. I guess I had gotten used to my figure after degradation, which seems like high 60s.
  40. J

USA MY RWD has soft limited LR battery!

The older packs were 74kwh with usable at a little less than 70. The update was to 82kwh, with usable closer to 75kwh, iirc.
  41. J

USA MY RWD has soft limited LR battery!

That makes this trim look like a pretty good deal, TBH. I bet a lot of people with the LR rarely go above 80% anyway.

    Renting a Y from Hertz?

Given the cost of supercharging in some places, $25 isn't bad. Just make sure to return it fairly low.
  43. J

    Renting a Y from Hertz?

Fair, but they should really set the return % lower. Requiring >80% can add a lot of time to the return process.

    TeslaMate [megathread]

It uses the latest updates to the official API for reading vehicle state. It does not use the new control API, but it also doesn't use the old control API, since it is all read only. :) I think it is possible that the oauth settings could use an update now that there is more official support...

Gruber Motors responses to BMS_u029 error message

I've seen posts from Gruber on multiple local Tesla FB groups. I'd say marketing is their main priority, even in spammy ways.

    TeslaMate [megathread]

Hey, I resemble that remark. 🤣 More seriously, I think the fix isn't canonical elixir, but not functionally wrong afaik. It seems to be backward compatible as well.

It might be a good idea to update your sample pictures. I doubt too many people are getting PPF for their 7+ year old Model S.

Hankook new iON tire, an "EV" tire (not the same as Kinergy GT)

I had them on another car. They were pretty good, but a bit loud on the highway. I think there are better options now.
