    Tesla BEV Competition Developments

This is absolutely interesting info, and it is a data point, but it's also cherry picking the best case scenario for the Taycan. This is useful for showing the advantages of the two-speed transmission, heat pump, and aero, but the numbers would be much different if it were good weather at...

Passenger Side Mirror Glass Popped Out - Parts Prices are Ridiculous!

FWIW, my wife hit a garbage can with our BMW i3's mirror, and the glass fell out and broke. Everything else was fine but the glass. It was ~$300 for JUST the glass part like in your first pic.

Comprehensive List of Model 3 Updates

Gotcha, I figured that's what you were referring to. Right, I'm questioning if there was an exact switchover, or if maybe there were multiple suppliers with some still getting the red hue because mine built in 11/18 has the red rear glass (and top) and that's after the generally accepted date...

Comprehensive List of Model 3 Updates

Can the bracket be retrofitted to older cars? I'm guessing it's not possible because the connection points are different between bracket and no-bracket trunklids. My i3 has a bracket and it's great. The lack of bracket (and only getting two bolts) resulted in the plate scratching the paint on...

Comprehensive List of Model 3 Updates

Regarding suspension, is this referring to the suspension being made less firm? Regarding the Rear glass IR coating change, is this referring to the lack of red hue on the rear glass when wet? If so, I'm not sure if this was a rolling change or a case of multiple suppliers, but mine has the red...

Problems with Auto Lane change in 32.12.2

Weirdly, NoA seems much better on v10 for me. I do the same trip pretty frequently, so it's a relatively apples-to-apples comparison, and a week or so ago was the first time the car did the whole trip without me having to take over and without ever even once having it change it's mind once...

Tesla V10 software update rollout: post here if you are still waiting

Someone that has EAP, but not FSD on Facebook says they got v10... so that would throw a wrench in this.

Tesla V10 software update rollout: post here if you are still waiting

That was my thought, too... but that seems like a pretty big flaw. I think the "parlor trick" argument would be reasonably strong if it doesn't work in the dark/rain/etc. To be fair, it makes sense that people would take videos in the day so people can actually see, but I guess we'll know soon...

Model S to the Nürburgring Next Week!

That's the best article I've read on the subject, yet. Clarifies which car set the best time, the track configuration, clarifies that the internet speculation about a much shorter track configuration is wrong, makes note of the driver, and the tires.

Model S to the Nürburgring Next Week!

OK, so it is some sort of mystery. Glad I wasn't going crazy. Supposedly, he has hundreds of people working for him and their goal is to figure out where Tesla is on technology, etc., so he can advise investors. He certainly seems... confident in his proclamations. No way is someone else...

Elon: "Feature complete for full self driving this year"

This is not what Musk said at the Autonomy Day Colin Langan from UBS: It sounds like what you’re talking about is Level 5, no geofence. Is that what you’re expecting by the end of the year? Elon: Yes. [Source: 3:31:40 on the Tesla livestream] So, Elon answered a simple, clear "yes" to a...

    BMW’s new key

Understandable. Personally, I use preconditioning just occasionally, and normally when I'm at Disney or something like that and parked outside in the sun. At home, I don't use it because it's parked in the garage. So, just going out and turning it on isn't an option. Yeah, I don't know what...

    BMW’s new key

I feel the same. They waited too long to make a BEV with more than 4 seats, so they forced me to Tesla. That being said, I think in the process of bashing BMW's slow EV growth (understandably), the i3 gets thrown under the bus a lot, somewhat undeservedly. It's the face of BMW EVs, so it gets...

    BMW’s new key

I've owned 3 i3s, and don't believe I've ever had the app ultimately fail to do precondition or whatever else. I've had it fail once or twice, for instance, and then work the next time, though. I'm not saying the BMW app is better. I'm saying I personally see pros and cons to the different...

    BMW’s new key

I love the i3, but this isn't true. BMW / dealers keep telling people that it's the fastest BMW or fastest non-M from 0-30 mph, but it's not. It isn't now, and it never was. Tons of other BMWs are quicker to 30 mph, and so are non-P Model 3s. i3 60Ah BEV*: 2.7 sec** 3LR RWD: 2.1 sec*** F80 M3...

    BMW’s new key

I get it. It's relatively dependent on use case... and whether it's a REx or BEV i3. We have a Model 3LR and an i3, and had 2 other i3s before that. For a second/commuter car, a BEV i3 is a great car, and a decent value. There are even reasons why I prefer it as a second car compared to having...

    BMW’s new key

Connected Drive works fine for occasionally checking range, unlocking doors, and turning on preconditioning. The BMW key works every time, so it's not as necessary for everyday use... and as a result, it's not constantly wasting electricity. I've done tons of ~200-mile day trips in a BEV i3...

    BMW’s new key

The Tesla vs. BMW apps are a bit of a trade-off. If I had to choose, Tesla's is better and worth the trade-offs, but there are substantial trade-offs. For the BMW, it's hit or miss, but presumably, that's because it's not always connected and keeping the car semi-awake, so it takes longer to...

Model Y Aims to Be Tesla's Real Mass Market Hit

Luxury cars aren't defined exclusively by their materials, fit, and finish anymore. If so, a base 3-series wouldn't be anywhere near a luxury car, either. There's nothing special about my friend's base F20 3-series with Sensatec interior compared to a Model 3. Sure, go with the top-level...

BMW I3 and Chevy Bolt versus the M3

According to BMW, i3's CoG is 18.5" and the only number I can find for Model 3 is also 18.5". I think it's more about suspension setup and such than CoG. They both have very low CoG (911 GT3 is 17.9", supposedly, for instance).
  26. 3

BMW I3 and Chevy Bolt versus the M3

Sales aren't at Model 3 levels, but the i3 has been available for sale all over the world and in all US states for ~5-6 years, now, so it shouldn't be lumped in with even the Bolt, let alone actual compliance cars like 500e, Fit EV, etc.
  27. 3

BMW I3 and Chevy Bolt versus the M3

My i3 is definitely more efficient than even my 3LR RWD. The 3 is officially more efficient when actually driving, but my commute is about ~20 miles/day, so the ~5 miles/day lost to vampire drain in the Tesla more than make up for whatever small driving efficiency difference there is. That...

What the chances Tesla cars will be self driving in 3 years? Why do you think that way?

FWIW, the Model 3 knows to move over when using Enhanced Summon in an un-lined parking lot when another car is coming.
  31. 3

Would you join the Elon's Robo-Taxi Fleet with your Tesla?

Certainly, anyone who believes that Tesla will be first to achieve legit FSD should be buying stock. They could increase prices by probably $20k (for FSD, at least) and still sell as many cars as they can build if they're the only game in town.
  32. 3

Would you join the Elon's Robo-Taxi Fleet with your Tesla?

If they get to the point of paying for themselves, though, the cost to buy one (or at least the FSD software) will go way, way up as a result if insane demand.

Stated Battery Capacity / EPA Economy / Mileage Does Not Add Up

Yeah, that would be very interesting! However, since it would definitely be lower than the EPA rating due to daily vampire drain (rather than just one day of vampire drain per full battery) and people who like to take advantage of the car's performance capabilities, I'm sure they'll never share...
  34. 3

Stated Battery Capacity / EPA Economy / Mileage Does Not Add Up

Technically, the EPA test procedure accounts for some vampire drain as the procedure is to charge the car fully and then leave it overnight and do the test the next day. But I agree with your point. In real life, people may experience 5-10+ days worth of vampire drain per equivalent full...

If you didn't order EAP at $5K, would you buy AP+FSD for $5K now?

EAP/FSD are still not ACTUALLY worth $5k to me, BUT considering that new cars have to pay $8k ($3k/$5k) for the same features and used ones even more, paying only $2k for AP or $5k for both may mean you break even on resale value, effectively making them free. For instance, if you go to sell a...

Bjorn's Ultimate Efficiency Test (8 different EVs tested at the same time)

Yeah, that was surprising. The driver of the AWD, himself, suggested it was probably user error. And yeah, the Bolt would do much better at lower speeds, I'm sure.

Test your 0-60 while driving downhill like in the video and you'll get a better time, too. He also could have had the rollout setting turned on in the Vbox options, which trims a few tenths, as well.

Diono Radian RXT & Clek Foonf Owners - Feedback

My 6-year-old can buckle his Clek Oobr most of the time. That being said, it's apparently common that Tesla owners add a little extender to the receiver part to make it stick out further for easier access.

Picking P3D or AWD with EAP?

I actually bought an inventory 3LR RWD a few weeks agos, so I'm set haha Just wondering if it's really still available or available with the white interior, for instance.
  43. 3

Picking P3D or AWD with EAP?

I mean, clearly they *could* do it, but would they? If I tried to off-menu order an LR RWD, could I? Would it be $47k ($2k less than before Jan 1)? They also *could* build LR RWDs with white interior, but I haven't heard of it happening despite people trying to order them. I guess we'll know...
  44. 3

Picking P3D or AWD with EAP?

That was my understanding, also. Elon said the LR RWD would be available off menu "for another week or so" on Oct. 18. Wouldn't be the first time something like that changed, of course.
  45. 3

Picking P3D or AWD with EAP?

Personally, I'm glad I decided to get the LR RWD instead of MR+EAP. Having done the trial, it's interesting, but not worth the $5k for my use case. Furthermore, I've only used it for a couple ~90 mile trips, and it's already done some weird stuff like heavy deceleration at overpasses with no...

Is there a electrical reason for two+ PowerWall 2s vs PV system size?

Thanks. I'm working with my AC guy, now, to make sure I get something that will work with a future single powerwall if necessary.
  47. 3

Is there a electrical reason for two+ PowerWall 2s vs PV system size?

Thanks! I guess I'll just try to keep the A/C at ~20A or less so if I'm running the fridge and a few LED lights, it will still be able to start up.
  48. 3

Is there a electrical reason for two+ PowerWall 2s vs PV system size?

Bringing this back from the dead, but hoping you can answer my question! I'm about to buy a new AC system, but want to make sure I could run it with a single PW2. Problem is, I can't find the actual specs for max LRA for a single PW2. I know it's ~30A, but want to find a definitive number and...
