2021 Long Range Actual Range After Charging

i seem to recall a setting you can tell the BMS what size tires you have on so it can more accurately give you a range estimate. I didn’t think earlier to ask if you had changed that .? I’ve never changed tire size so I haven’t played with it much.

2021 Long Range Actual Range After Charging

I’m always still surprised how many people still think the displayed range number on the car is being derived based on someones driving habits, or freeway vs city, or temperature outside or weather or anything else like that. its JUST simple math using the cars wh per mile fixed number and how...

Recommendation on Front upper control arms?

Some personal issues sidetracked my project, but now I’m back on the mission. I really like the look of the Meyle ones. that seems like a solid choice and has a good company behind them.

2018 Model S "oil in coolant"

Yikes……after reading this entire thread this jumped out to me as a distinct possibility…..would seem a lab analysis of the coolant and type of oil would settle it. Hard to imagine a brake shop going t9 that much trouble to get to the cap and reservoir to “top it up” but it’s certainly not...

Recommendation on Front upper control arms?

Decided to finally get around to replacing my squeaky front upper control arms . Just need to decide to use the Tesla factory ones or can someone suggest a better quality or equivalent one after market ? RWD model S 2017. thank you.

    Charging

Similar issue a couple years back. Mine ended up being a coolant issue and fluid wasn’t moving around. They finally replaced a 3 way valve I believe. In my case it would start to charge and soon after trip something (maybe heat related?) and then shutoff and blink red. you dont suppose...

FUSC transfer till the end of year (2023)

@NV Ray i like the thought of someday maybe buying a new battery instead of buying a new car. I have taken great care of my car and it still looks and drives like new. If someday I need a battery to get many more great years from it, I would easily pay for it. still seems way cheaper than...

FUSC transfer till the end of year (2023)

I have it currently on my S. I would love to keep it, and it’s been very handy over the years. Emotionally I think it’s awesome and don’t want to ever lose it, but the logical side of me does the math and for me at least it just hasn’t really saved me that much money over the years. 2 maybe...

How low do u run tire pressure for comfort

You’re absolutely correct. I set them cold with no recent driving and then I typically have to adjust as it gets colder here in Texas. 41 is right on the edge of the warning

How low do u run tire pressure for comfort

I’m glad you asked this. I have been curious about this as well. I’ve always run lower than the recommended for ride comfort. I’m at 41 psi on my factory 19” wheels. Haven’t seen any ill effects at all in tire wear. I rotate fairly regularly and keep an eye on them. i go back up to...

    Vampire unacceptable help

in my experience when this starts happening to my car I know it’s about time to replace the 12v battery. It is weak and doesn’t hold a charge and the car is constantly ”topping“ it back off attempting to keep at where it needs to be. may not be your issue but is that a possibility?

BMS-029 - Tesla Must Do Better

There are many potential upgrade buyers like myself out there, but there is NO incentive for me to upgrade as much as I would enjoy a new car. I have an 8 year warranty, unlimited charging, unlimited free data, and FSD beta that I only paid a few grand for. But I would lose all of that with a...

Creaking/Squeaking control arm ball joint fix

After mine, it didn’t stop squeaking right away either. Took a few drives. I think if I were doing it again I would disconnect ball joint and work the end around to get the grease moving inside. But in the end this was a good fix for me and saved a lot of effort.

    2018 Model S Gen 3 door handle

Not sure if this is relevant but after I replaced mine It was out of “sync” with the other handles and still acting weird. after a couple calls with a Tesla tech, I realized I needed to have them hook up the laptop and have them correctly ”sync” the new handle to the car. long story short...

Is your windshield distortion this bad?

Oh good grief. That’s not cool at all. I can put up with a lot of imperfections from a car, but not one like that. We have issues just like this in the helicopter world from our windscreens on occasio and it can be more than annoying. It can cause all sorts of safety issues. Hopefully you...

    What Went Wrong?

    Rooftop Tents

That is pretty darn cool. If there was something that could attach and seal to an open (slightly cracked a couple inches) car window and bring warm air into the tent…..you could add just a bit of heat into the tent. Would not take much to make a huge difference. The heat would naturally rise...

    Model S Phantom Breaking

The better cameras and the HW2.5 were added in very late 2017 model S builds. that’s the only difference I’m aware of. Wouldn’t seem like the cameras would change phantom braking results but I’m not any kind of expert.

    Model S Phantom Breaking

“Late model” 2017 S here….I can’t recall the last time I have had a true phantom braking event. I use it ever single day to and from work. but I have always wondered if my car is TRULY using only vision based…..I still have the nose radar. I am very curious what data it’s providing and what...

Anyone ever changed paddle gear on “Gen3” door handle assy?

I’ve done it both ways. Drilling the hole the end for the shaft and also just removing the motor. Either way was about the same in time and effort honestly For me. i think I favor the drilling only because I could slide the shaft back just far enough to get the gear in and slide it back...

    Goodyear Tired

I do rotate regularly. Part of it may be that I have a RWD Model S. And most of my driving is Highway. But I have yet to see any uneven wear from the rear due to any camber issues. I have always used the Michelin Primacy tires. I like them because they ride quiet in my experience and seem...

    Goodyear Tired

If it were my car I would certainly want to know the numbers for the rear tires and see if it is off. It would bother me that the tires are not riding and wearing evenly across the tread. Your driving style has NOTHING to do with that uneven tire wear. I got 40K miles out of mine. To me thats...

    2018 Model S Gen 3 door handle

@Angloswissguy ha ha those guys are typically fast. He will have it done and working in no time. I think door handles is their bread and butter kind of job, they do often. I would suggest make sure your happy with the “depth“ adjustment on the handle before he starts to close it all up. If...

    Likely Brake and Accelerator Mixup

Reference the Korea crash. As far as the mirrors folding in and out, I believe this most likely happened. If I understand the article correctly this guy was a “designated driver” of sorts that is common in that part of the world. when called they come to you and drive you home in your own...

model S will not charge after software updates

@ArgusIII just another data point for you. I had very similar charge issues . Wouldn’t charge for long at home unless power was severely reduced. Kept failing after 10 to 20 minutes or so with similar errors like yours. But oddly enough it would charge at a supercharger. the car had been...

Anyone ever changed paddle gear on “Gen3” door handle assy?

Made out great. I kept messing with it(I was afraid of breaking the plastic teeth) until I got it off. Did same as you and drilled a hole in the side and replaced. I was worried the sensor was not “keyed” somehow on the shaft so I would never be able to rig/calibrate the whole thing, but...

More front door handle woes...they don't retract...make grinding noises...when I unlock it, the doors pop open a couple of inches.

Completely agree with above. the door handles are really not that complicated in their operation. Small motor turns small gear pushes them out. Spring pulls them back in. But they do need to be “centered“ and adjustEd for depth correctly for all this to work smoothly. You could probably do...

Door handles don't present on touch only

    Model S - Recessed/Sunken door handles.

It’s really not that hard to fix them as long as you’re comfortable removing the door panels. Just need a torx bit and extension on a swivel if I recall correctly.
