    Supercharger - Raymond Terrace, NSW

It’s Type 2 but can support DC charging without the two additional large ports at the bottom. You then need an adapter for CCS2 plus early models like mine needed some wiring changes. However the technique is to attach the adapter to the charging cable first then insert that into the type 2...

Australian Model 3 Highland experiences, tips, tricks

It can happen at any time and completely at random. My 9 year old Model S has the original windscreen but 3 years ago I took my classic car for a drive and a hard driving Mitsubishi Magna didn’t slow for roadwork and flung a rock into the screen. Thought I had got away with it until I got home...

I tried that initially after the MCU2 upgrade. I had to manually connect to my phone Hot Spot each time i leave home. Then it stays connected when I get home unless you manually disconnect it. If you don’t my phone goes flat.

Car Network connectivity solutions 2G-3G-4G-5G - Australia

Yes, just had the MCU2 update on my 2014 Model S, $2780 all up. Later models may be cheaper as they don’t need so many components updated I’m told. The screen is a lot faster and has a few more features but I’m completely unimpressed with the connectivity. It lost 4G enough to lose maps 3...

In my case it’s still the original PPF. It has only a few rock marks on the bonnet and a scuff mark on the bumper but so far as I can see the paint underneath is unscathed. I got a quote to replace the front PPF from the installer some time ago and he tells me he has removed and replaced PPF...

I haven’t heard of PPF damaging factory paint. I’ve on,y heard stories of PPF damaging paint as it was applied too soon after a car was repainted or the paint was not correctly applied. My 9 year old Model S would have many more chips in the paint were it not for the PPF but it doesn’t stop...

    Australian Model 3 Waiting Room

If you’re a tenant I agree that it’s a very difficult situation to get even just a 10A power point installed. If you own your apartment you should join the owners committee and start going through the EV ready building process. If anyone is owns an apartment that they rent they should be...

If you have off street parking at home, I would suggest you organise your home charging first and worry about adapters later. Your Model 3 comes with a CCS2 charge port which is the most popular public DC charging plug and also fits any Type 2 AC charging plug. If there are some untethered AC...

    Toyota Bz4X

Like most large manufacturers, Toyota has switched to using common platforms from which they build a range of different vehicles. So far they have only one electrified platform that is uses in the BZ4X and Lexus RX (EV) but strangely not the Mirai which is built on the Camry platform...

Actual wall kw to km rate

Efficiency ratings are federal, so Australia wide. I don’t think they simply take USA results and convert them. IIRC Australia uses Worldwide Light vehicle Testing Procedure (WLTP) and the USA something else. In the Southern Highlands of NSW it gets to about 0 deg C or just a bit lower in mid...

Actual wall kw to km rate

“0.174 kW per km battery” A Tesla will give you a read out of its efficiency and expresses the above as Watt Hours per Kilometre. If you’re getting 174wh/K it’s a cold rainy day with lots some uphill sections or your lead footing it somewhat. I drive a Model S and it’s rated at 181 Wh/km, but...

Actual wall kw to km rate

If your Tesla is at a low state of charge and connected to an 11Kw charger it will charge almost immediately at 11Kw from the low state of charge until it starts to taper at above 90%. You can achieve much higher charge rates of up to 150Kw plus on a public DC quick charger or Tesla...

Actual wall kw to km rate

I’m not sure many EV owners calculate the losses due to charging, as there’s not much you can do about it. From what I read the most efficient rate of charging is between about 7Kw and 11Kw, the maximum a Model 3 or Y will charge off AC. Lower rates of charging and overheads become a large...

    Toyota Bz4X

If it was your job as marketer to sell a very average car like the BZ4X I can’t think of a better ad campaign. There are a lot of repeat Toyota buyers and a number of them are bleeding off onto Tesla and other EV brands. Unfortunately the BZ4X might be bad enough that it breaks their brand...

    Supercharger - Keith SA

Australian Model 3 Highland experiences, tips, tricks

I wash my car once a week, generally on Sunday, almost without exception. The car is rarely so dirty that it takes long to clean. If you leave the dirt and fallout too long it binds to the paint and the scrubbing needed to remove it causes scratches. Most people I talk to who “hate to wash...

Recommended cleaning products (Australia based) for Model Y

Pressure washers get a bad reputation when people move the spray nozzle too close to the paintwork. If you can hear the water bouncing off the paint, you’re too close, move backwards until you just hear the whoosh of the water and it’s safe and effective. I’ve used a Gerni pressure washer on my...
