    1.5 Roadster Tire Thread

I do have OVMS, but haven't watched the tire pressures right after key on. I do know I've often checked after the TPMS error/alert message and the tire pressures and temps show fine. Next time I go for a spin I'll start watching the tires before I even turn the key on and try to notice if all...

    1.5 Roadster Tire Thread

My Roadster has been doing the same thing for a year or two. I get a TPMS error at the start of every drive, yet all the tires are properly reporting in their temperatures and pressures. Our service tech theorized perhaps one or more sensors isn't reporting in quickly enough or regularly...

Free app for viewing TeslaCam and Sentry videos on your Android device

Thanks for this very useful app!!! My sentry seems to generate a lot of videos triggered by wind blowing trees or cars going by. Any chance of adding a couple faster viewing speed options above 2X so I can review them quicker?

    Low Power System Service Required

I realize this thread is a couple years old, but I just had my switch pack go bad. So far Tesla has not located a replacement for me. I've got a 1.5 Roadster which is now 10 years old. Love the car and want to keep it on the road, but I'm getting concerned about Tesla's ability and/or economic...

Sorry for the late replay on this, but better late than never... I'm running the Bridgestone Potenza RE970AS Pole Position tires on the rear right now (still original AD07s on the front). I bought these before I figured out how badly my Roadster's rear alignment was and was trying to find...

    2.0 / 2.5 Roadster / Roadster Sport Tire Thread

I just checked the tread wear on my MPSS and I'm down to 2/16. Based on previous measurements I'm predicting I will hit the wear bands at around 7K miles. I got 6K out of the last pair of AD08s and I wore those well past when they initially hit the wear bands, so it looks like I'll get...

Interesting point regarding the belt determining the RPM. I just ran the calculations and the ration of stated diameter does not match the ratio of the revs per mile. According to the revs, the diameters are about .04" different instead of .1". There's obviously a lot more going on here than...

    1.5 Roadster Tire Thread

I'm cross posting this from the Roadster 2.5 tire tread thread which I've been discussing this issue on as well since I think tire issues are pretty similar between the Roadster versions: I put Michelin Pilot Super Sports on the rear a while back, so I figure it's time to give an update. Please...

Please see my revised estimate of 10K miles in my recent post. Still though, it looks like I'll get double the mileage you are getting. My Roadster is a 1.5, but I don't see how that would change anything significantly. It will be nice to hear of others experiences with the MPSS tires since it...

Good point Tesla 940. Never trust theory and mathematics without verifying with direct measurement! Although I did like the idea of being able to monitor from the comfort of the drivers seat. I think I'll take your advice and go buy one though, since the Roadster is requiring me to keep an...

I put Michelin Pilot Super Sports on the rear a while back, so I figure it's time to give an update. Please see my previous posts in this thread regarding traction control so you'll understand what I have to say next. I'm still running the original Yokos on the front, so the rear tires are .1"...

    1.5 Roadster Tire Thread

I've had the tires and characterized the behavior enough to say I am absolutely sure it's not mold release or tire temperature. It is too consistent on hot or cold days (we're seeing pretty wild swings in temperatures this year). A couple minutes/miles into each drive and the problem...

    1.5 Roadster Tire Thread

It's interesting how such minor differences make such a difference. I'd always heard the traction control allowed about a 2% slip before kicking in. Heres the rotations per mile for the three different rear tires I've used so far: AD07: 835 AD08: 836 MPSS: 833 That's about a .24%...

    1.5 Roadster Tire Thread

It sounds like I'm experiencing exactly what you have seen. I'd say traction control is right around 50% (steady rate of blinking, but doing some amount of regen) and it always goes away after a few minutes. I think the new tires are all of about .1" larger than the AD07s, so I suppose it will...

Thanks for the suggestion hcsharp. I went ahead and posted to the 1.5 thread, as the regen issue I'm seeing is definitely a 1.5 issue. Still very happy with the Michelin Pilot Super Sports, so I want to again give a big thank you to the 2.5 owners who turned me onto them!

    1.5 Roadster Tire Thread

I posted this over in the 2.5 thread and someone suggested I post it over here as well. Based on what I was seeing folks say over on the 2.0 thread I decided to give the Michelin Pilot Super Sports a shot this time around. Looks like this thread hasn't been active for almost a year, so we'll...

You are correct, I have a 1.5 Roadster, which means it doesn't have the tire replacement screen/option. The tires only have about 100 miles on them, but I really doubt they are actually slipping during regen. I can't imagine them slipping during slow speed regens yet not slipping during high...

I put a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sports on the rear last week based on the positive experience some other owners had expressed. I was looking for a bit better wear and better rain performance. Here's my experience so far: They are much quieter Haven't had any rain yet, but the tread...

    2.0 / 2.5 Roadster / Roadster Sport Tire Thread

I noticed these tires are about 3lbs lighter than the stock tires. I wonder how much of the range difference may be due to that. The lower the mass in the tire, the less energy required to spin it. I think I'm going to give the MPSS tires a try for my next set unless I hear some compelling...

It's possible the freeway ruts contributed to the problem by pooling the water. I felt the mushy hydroplaning feeling right away (as the rain really came on) and backed down immediately. The entire event probably lasted about 1-2 seconds before I backed off on my speed. Perhaps it was just...

I think you read my comment wrong, or I was unclear in the way I stated it. For me, the original AD07s lasted 7K miles. The AD08's are already down to the wear bands and have only 5K miles on them. I was expecting/hoping the AD08s would last a bit longer than the AD07s, but instead they wore...

  24. B

    2.0 / 2.5 Roadster / Roadster Sport Tire Thread

I replaced my first set of rear tires (7K miles) with AD08s hoping for a bit longer tread wear. I found them to be very comparable to the original AD07s in terms of grip, but after just 5K miles they are down to the wear bands. A bit earlier in the year they gave me a bit of a scare on the...

I've been running a set of AD08 tires in the back for the last couple thousand miles. I haven't noticed any difference from the original AD07 tires. Traction control under full acceleration does not come on in dry reasonably flat pavement/situations, which is very much the same as I observed...

    Spare Mobile Connector a waste?

I have an update for those of you who expressed concern about the fact the MC240 pilot board outputs a 30A pilot, which is way too much for when I'm plugged into a standard 15A or 20A 120V circuit. Although I can control this at the car, it is a bit of a hassle. So I decided to do a bit of PIC...

    Extra wire on MC240 GFCI

Thanks Scott! So I'm assuming that best guesses are connecting the red wire to the wrong leg won't cause damage (ie. it just won't work). I'll give the red L1/L2 a try first and see if the relay pulls in.
  28. B

    Extra wire on MC240 GFCI

Yes it looks like that EXCEPT there is a 5th red wire, which is lighter gauge then the rest.

    Extra wire on MC240 GFCI

That's what I was hoping it might be for, but I see nothing in the spec sheet regarding it. Do you know what sort of control stimulus you apply to this line in order to call for the contact closure? If I remember right (I don't have the gfci in front of me right now) the unit has 2 line...

    Spare Mobile Connector a waste?

TEG is of course 100% correct. There is no chance of shock as long as nothing is plugged into the 120V-240V adapter, but as soon as you plug ANYTHING into it then you have a completed circuit which represents a hazard. Even if the EV isn't charging, the pilot generator completes the circuit...

    Extra wire on MC240 GFCI

Found an ever better link from North Shore Safety's site: http://www.nssltd.com/pdf/30%20Amp%20Perm.pdf According to their table, this particular model does not have fault output notification. Yet the red wire definitely was connected to the pilot board. It doesn't really matter at this...

    Extra wire on MC240 GFCI

I've done a lot more than just open mine..... I hijacked the Tesla cable/connector to create a J1772 adapter, hijacked the pilot circuit to make my Spare Mobile Connector operate at 240V and all that is left is the GFCI. I have a use for that as well, but I need to understand what the extra...

    Extra wire on MC240 GFCI

Does anyone know what the extra (light gauge red) wire on the the MC240's GFCI is for? I'm sort of assuming it's some sort of remote control line, but I can't find any information on it. It connects to the pilot board.

    Spare Mobile Connector a waste?

I guess you could say I've subscribed to the Scott451 school of thought in that I must make the proper decisions and settings on the car (ie. set the current properly before starting). In terms of the current draw, Scott451 has regularly used the spare mobile connector at 30A and possibly even...

That's what I did. I've got AD08s on the rear and the original AD07s on the front. I haven't seen any difference in TC (once they were broken in). The AD08s looked to be pretty identical in terms of most of the specs and they were $100 cheaper per tire. There is some minor difference in...

    Spare Mobile Connector a waste?

My Spare Mobile Connector After hijacking the Tesla connector off my MC240 in order to make a J1772 adapter, I saw what Scott had done to his Spare Mobile Connector and thought it was a great idea. J1772 Charging for the Tesla Roadster

Good point Tom (and DarkStar). I hadn't really thought about the fact the GFI should/would cover them for the safety issue. If DarkStar is correct, then there are other chargers which don't output the negative side of the pilot, yet work with the Roadster? Anyone know what Tesla's minimum...

J1772 Charging for the Tesla Roadster

That's the point! The +/-12V swing on the pilot signal exists PURELY for safety. It is the mechanism by which the charging station can discriminate between a connection to an actual EV vs. the charging plug sitting in a mud puddle or having a kid stick a paper clip in it. If they aren't...

J1772 Charging for the Tesla Roadster

I am the other owner Tom was referring to. I put an O-Scope on the pilot signal and discovered that the Shorepower Stations (in Spokane at least) only swing the pilot signal from 0 to +12V. The -12V swing is not there!!! Since the -12V swing is really the integral part of the safety system...

J1772 Charging for the Tesla Roadster

The ones in Spokane look like the picture of the Shorepower tower, only they have a J1772 on the right and the level 1 on the left. At any rate, has anyone tried charging from a J1772 plug on one of these?
