But people need utes. Won't someone think of the struggling motorists and their stranded ABN's? How else are they going to take advantage of the FBT tax concessions?

    Superchargers in Australia

This is the problem with self-driving generally. We hold it to a much higher standard than that to which we hold human beings. 99.999..% is not good enough as soon as the first accident happens involving a self-driving car. It does not matter if the rest of the time the system drives...

Way too many buttons and silly gewgaws. They're firmly stuck in the past, and have learned nothing. They're cooked.

On my old Model S the only software thing I have any gripes about are those wipers. The other stuff, sure it's simple (AP1 front camera) but it does it all really well. The weird thing is, to me at least, that they do the hard stuff quite well - but the easy stuff, that other cars have done well...

Does using Tesla Tyre Repair kit require you to pull the nail out first?

I don't think I'd leave any foreign object in the tyre for any length of time. It could do further damage as the wheel turns. Plug it if you can and you might save the tyre. I have driven thousands of km on a plugged tyre but did have to put up with a very slow leak. But be careful of damage...

    Wiki Supercharger - Australian Index

Probably stating the obvious, but you can filter superchargers on Plugshare and see them on a map. Recent user checkins, photos, and warnings about access difficulties etc. are there too. The nearby food info is sometimes added, but it depends on the user - it's always good to have more info.

Australian Model 3 Highland experiences, tips, tricks

AFAIK you can set the mirrors to the position you want while reverse gear is selected, and that position will be remembered in your profile and the mirrors will move to it when in reverse. At least that's how my S works.

    Very Hot Garage

I believe it is 20A max in Qld for a single phase, under the new rules. When I put my HPWC in the sparky would not go above that, due to the length of the feeders. As far as installation hassles go - if they refuse a 20A WC, a 15A outlet would not be unreasonable. If it's electrically feasible...

Roundabouts indicator challenge in Western Australia

Two lane roundabouts always have several points where traffic can cut other traffic off. Otherwise you could never get out of the inside lane. You're in those spots so briefly that it seems hardly worth indicating at all, to me at least. Qld rules here.

    Evie EV charging networks

Is there not a way for the charger to know if a pre-auth is currently in effect, and piggyback onto that when the next tap-on occurs?
  17. aegidius

    Evie EV charging networks

Most are BYO cable, aren't they? I haven't seen a list of which have a cable and which don't - I had to go looking at photos on Plugshare to get that information. (I'm too cheap, alas, to lash out $300+ on a type2-type2 cable unless I really need it)
  18. aegidius

    Evie EV charging networks

Still nothing much up the Qld coast - there's a big section between Rocky and Mackay that needs filling in. Good to see Evie at Airlie Beach though. (not counting the one-stall QESH sites which I wouldn't rely on)

    ChargeFox EV charging Network

Anyone been past the Rogers St carpark DCFC in Stanthorpe recently? It's been down for a while according to Plugshare, and the app says both "available" and "service personnel booked" for the same stall... I'm going down that way soon and having a charger in Stanthorpe would be handy.

    New M3SR vs LR

Not an owner (yet) but I've driven both. My immediate impressions: The SR is a nice car, but the LR is an amazing car. Having been spoilt by an AWD Model S, I would not hesitate to go for the LR - for the range, AWD and it goes like stink. Absolutely worth every penny of the price difference.

Why has Tesla's charging advice changed

I charge to 80% most nights, except when it's already close to that and I don't need to drive much tomorrow. Rarely if ever need to go above 80% even when there's a road trip coming up, as the superchargers are always within reach, and it's a waste of time turning up and going straight into...

    Wiki Supercharger - Australian Index

I have lifetime free supercharging with my S90D, but it's of no use in the burbs because I live clear across town from Brisbane's main supercharger and it's just not convenient (as well as being full most of the tie anyway). Superchargers are for road trips.

The days of the Port Macquarie (NSW) supercharger may be numbered, due to its host going out of business. For now it seems to be available (per Plugshare). There is a thread for it.

Model Y number of charge cycles?

Most Li batteries will lose a few % of capacity in the first 20,000km, then settle down for a very slow loss for the rest of their lives. My S90D has lost about 5% of capacity during my ownership (that's from 20,000 to 120,000 km) Source of all this is forgotten now, but this page is probably...

Describe your initial impressions upon new delivery of 2023 Model Y

Anyone come from a dual motor S to a Y LR? How does the performance compare? I drove a Y RWD, and was surprised how much slower it was off the line than a 3 RWD. At the time there were no LR's in the country so I could not compare - it's the only model/variant I have not driven yet.

    Evie EV charging networks

My own experience - although limited - and other stories I've heard along the way, suggest that Evie chargers are better maintained/more reliable/both than those of Chargefox, even though they are almost all Tritium. Perhaps Evie is getting more of the newer RTM75's?

Refresh Model X & S Waiting Room - AUSTRALIA (Orders cancelled by Tesla May2023)

Yeah I'll keep my S too - it's probably worth a bit more now that they aren't making any more of 'em in RHD. It's still somewhere between the M3LR and M3P in performance (i.e. goes like the clappers), looks great, and has a nice big boot. I'll just have to suck up the MCU2 upgrade before...

Refresh Model X & S Waiting Room - AUSTRALIA (Orders cancelled by Tesla May2023)

That could be because we are a relatively wealthy country, with a lot of the car buying population having disposable income to buy premium and luxury segment vehicles. It's clearly a simple commercial decision on Tesla's part to cease RHD production of their niche models, but I think they are...

    NRMA fast charging network

More plugs in case one fails? How about more plugs in case it is working (and occupied)? Good to see they are admitting they have a problem, don't get me wrong. More AC backup chargers like QESH has would be good too, and not too expensive to roll out quickly first.

Any Aussies with front suspension rattle?

Noises started appearing after a little gutter bump (Aug 2016 S90D, just post facelift). Turns out that one of the lower links cracked and it started working loose as the crack opened up. Had all 4 links on both sides replaced - Tesla service told me that was SOP for cars that age (still arguing...

Does using supercharger actually save money for a road trip compared to petrol?

Many already are, to power not just the chargers but the adjacent building. See the Knockrow Supercharger for an example.

    Tesla Model Y-LR in Australia

Probably about right. Wh/km does not scale with speed in the same way as watts. If a car is decently aerodynamic, it will use less Wh/km on the freeway at a constant 100-110 (cruise control on) than in the stop-start suburbs. That has certainly been my experience (Model S). Not sure about the Y...

Card carrying curmudgeon here. I've long since given up arguing with idiots full-time, but occasionally do just to keep my wits sharp. Sensitivity of accelerator pedal in parking manouvres

Never have a problem with the throttle sensitivity when parking either forward or reverse. Can't stand creeping automatics. Very glad when I stepped in to the Model S and was given an option to turn it off! And the holding brake is teh magick.

    Evie EV charging networks

They could share power for a while then the connection could be upgraded later. 175W per stall is plenty.
  48. aegidius

    Evie EV charging networks

A minor thing, but it would be nice if Evie (and others) had an up-to-date charger map on their own websites, mirroring the data already on their phone apps. It's not like they don't have the data. Sure you can use Plugshare, but it has to play catchup sometimes.

Reversing issues in new MYP = accident

Lines seem good on my S. They track where the outside edge of the tyre will go. I never rely on them for close work though - mirrors are your friend.
