Stephen Colbert Warns Tesla Owners: Everyone Hates Us

That much is true. See below for truth about comparing EVs to ICE: -Don- Reno, NV

    Turn signal operation.

No need. I just RTFM on the screen. It says I can cancel the turn signal by the same direction. But it could have made it a little clearer. But I just now figured it all out. Here is what I just discovered and never knew before: Light push up or down for 3 blinks that MUST self-cancel out. No...

    Turn signal operation.

Are you sure it worked on 2018 models? It never worked to push to the side blinking to cancel regardless of if light or hard press. I am wondering if they changed this on later models. I have a hard time buying its broken--and for both directions. -Don- Reno, NV
  4. DonTom

    Turn signal operation.

That does NOT work on my 2018 M3. It was the first thing I tried (and countless times after). -Don- Reno, NV

    Turn signal operation.

That doesn't work on my 2018 M3. Makes no difference how long I hold in the tap. It just keeps on blinking in the same direction. -Don- Reno, NV
  6. DonTom

    Turn signal operation.

I don't think I will have the problem again. Even though I had my Tesla since new in 2018, I did not realize that there was a separate turn signal for lane changes that will time out after three blinks. See what happens when you try to stop it in two blinks. Now I know to just let it timeout...
  7. DonTom

    Turn signal operation.

I was mainly referring to lane changes when using the turn signals when there is no auto shutoff. Looks like it was mostly operator error here. I just went to the garage to play with my turn signals for a while. I never noticed it only blinks three times when I lightly use the turn signal...
  8. DonTom

    Turn signal operation.

2017 M3. Do others have the issue of after using the turn signal for one direction it is VERY difficult to shut off without it activating the opposite turn signal? Such as when used for a lane change? Is there a better way to cancel the turn signal, without it blinking the opposite side...

    Service Mode "GTW Locked" ???

One thing I do not understand is why is my coolant low only in the "Service" screen that obviously Tesla doesn't even want us to know about? IOW, if I didn't look in the Service screen, which is not for us owners, I would not even know about it. -Don- Auburn, CA

    Battery preconditioning for CCS-1?

I would think 95°F would be better than nothing on a cold day for a 250KW CCS charger. I never said it had to be exactly at the most efficient temperature if they let us turn in on manually. -Don- Reno, NV
  12. DonTom

    Battery preconditioning for CCS-1?

The V1 Superchargers would be rated at 50 KW, IIRC. And the lowest I have seen for a Tesla Supercharger is 150 KW. But Superchargers are not the issue here, as the navigation works for all of those, as AFAIK. -Don- Reno, NV

    Service Mode "GTW Locked" ???

Oh, so that speed limiter only means while I am in the Service Mode. I was thinking it was related to my error. I doubt if I will ever be driving it while it is in that mode--at least not unless I know what I am doing. Thanks, I didn't know about the online service manual. I now have it...

    Battery preconditioning for CCS-1?

Those must be the Version One Tesla Superchargers. I don't think I have ever even seen one. -Don- Reno, NV
  15. DonTom

    Service Mode "GTW Locked" ???

Seems strange to me that this is only in the Service Mode (where I assume we are not even supposed to know about). What happens if I just ignore it? IOW, it seems Tesla doesn't even want to let me know that the coolant lever is low. And what is that about "speed limited" ? And since it's a...

    Service Mode "GTW Locked" ???

I went to the Service Mode today and I see this there: "GTW Locked-Speed limited" What does "GTW" stand for? It also says something about coolant low. I assumed it meant the battery coolant, but it says something about the A/C. So what is the fix? Something I can do myself or not? -Don-...

    Battery preconditioning for CCS-1?

Does the preconditioning of the battery change if you're going to a 150KW Tesla Supercharger vs. a 250 KW Telsa Supercharger? My electric motorcycles show the battery temperature. Should be easy enough for Teslas to show it as well. -Don- Reno, NV
  18. DonTom

    Battery preconditioning for CCS-1?

Different yes, but also useful enough. -Don- Reno, NV
  19. DonTom

    Battery preconditioning for CCS-1?

We should be able to have it activate with manual control and still let the FW have enough idiot proofing to not damage the battery or anything else. -Don- Reno, NV

    Battery preconditioning for CCS-1?

I agree, but they made it a little too boring for many. There are many things I would rather do myself. -Don- Reno, NV

    Battery preconditioning for CCS-1?

Then does the battery also warm up a little before a CCS charge starts on a Tesla? If not, what happens if a CCS charge is attempted when well below 32°F? -Don- Reno, NV
  22. DonTom

    Battery preconditioning for CCS-1?

How many watts are needed to do such on a very cold day? And how long does it usually take? -Don- Reno, NV
  23. DonTom

    Battery preconditioning for CCS-1?

How about when we do a 12 KW home charge when it is below freezing? Does the battery still need to warm up a little somehow even then? I think I heard that lith batteries will not accept a charge at freezing temps, so how is that then dealt with? -Don- Reno, NV
  24. DonTom

    Battery preconditioning for CCS-1?

I almost never use the Tesla App, but I was just playing around with it and found this under "Schedule" : "Precondition Set climate and preheat battery" Mine is set to "off" as default. Anyway, can that be used to precondition the battery for a CCS charge on a cold day? Or what am I really...

    Battery preconditioning for CCS-1?

As EV-GO has done the opposite. Every EV-GO I have EVER used is now out of service. However, I understand they are removing all of their 50 KW CCS chargers. Some will be replaced with high power CCS chargers, and some will simply be removed. But if they are replacing any, they are sure taking...

    Battery preconditioning for CCS-1?

That confirms what I said. I would like to be able to decide for myself when the battery should be preconditioned and when it should and should not be used. -Don- Reno, NV
  27. DonTom

    Battery preconditioning for CCS-1?

Is that because Tesla thinks their owners are too stupid to use it correctly? That is about the only reason I can come up with for not having it available to be controlled manually. -Don- Reno, NV
  28. DonTom

    Battery preconditioning for CCS-1?

Interesting, thanks. But I wonder what the odds are of adding this needed feature in a Tesla OTA update someday. That day will probably be the day after I install the Commander.:) -Don- Reno, NV

  30. DonTom

    Battery preconditioning for CCS-1?

It seems to me this would be a very simple thing to fix with an OTA update. If there was a supercharger nearby, I would simply use it instead of CCS. Fortunately, I only rarely charge my Tesla on the road. I was more curious than anything. But thanks for the reply.

    Battery preconditioning for CCS-1?

I have a 2018 Tesla Model 3 which I recently changed the charging ECU for CCS-1 support. Tested on all chargers, works fine except I have one question. I know to navigate to Tesla Superchargers as that preconditions the battery, especially for cold days. Says on the screen when it is doing...

10 Reasons You Should Never Buy An EV (says MSN)

I have also wondered if big oil money is involved in such. But could also be many others. A lot of jobs will be gone when the world changes to all EV. Tranny shops, oil changes, smog checks, and the list goes on. Many people have reasons to hate EVs. -Don- Reno, NV

Non Tesla Charging at Tesla Supercharger station

55KW for my 2022 Chevy Bolt. Not an issue to me, I always enjoy the breaks. I am retired, not in a big hurry to get anywhere. I do the same stuff on the road as I do at home on those charge stops, such as post messages like these. Or I walk around the town or have a meal or whatever. Besides...

Better regen control. Adjust as you drive with the regen lever on the steering wheel. Makes it a very fun car to drive. Progressive brake pedal regen. Brake lightly get 10KW, brake with a lot of pressure and get 70 KW. I don't think the brake pads ever engage in the Bolt. Tesla adds nothing at...

Non Tesla Charging at Tesla Supercharger station

Well, I own a 2022 Chevy Bolt as well as a 2018 Tesla M3 LR, AWD. In many ways, Ilike the Bolt better than my Tesla. I don't consider it a mistake at all. -Don- Reno, NV

Non Tesla Charging at Tesla Supercharger station

That was my first thought as well, that it was a mistake, that somebody checked into the wrong location. Even I have done that, but only with the same type of charge station but at different nearby locations. And there is no way that I know of to edit or delete after such mistake is made. So...

    2018 M3--CCS Adapter Not supported.

I had no idea that EA did such. That probably makes them more reliable also. I have had all types of hassles with AE chargers, but some do work better than others. I always have problems with the ones at the Elk Grove, CA Wal*Mart trying to charge up my Energica motorcycles. Fortunately, there...

Thanks all. Sounds simple enough, but if I have any problems, I know where to ask. I already had the CCS adapter, and I just ordered the ECM from Ebay.
