Just checked my SentryClips and rear camera sentry clips don’t look as good as side and front cameras although it might be caused by the fish eye distortion. I’ll try daily wiping camera to see if it records clearer video.

The new weatherstripping will keep water out of trunk but not out of bumper cover. Water enters bumper from behind tail lights. This is the same seal installed on my vehicle after I found my old one had a wide gap to bumper.

I wouldn’t do that as water can enter from any side of tail light. It would take a whole tube of silicone to seal it. This is what it looks like with tail light removed.

I made video with front of car on lower side of driveway, about 2” lower than rear. I also taped up holes I drilled. Water ends up flowing to front side of composite cover. It also flows right through center once it’s soaked up.

I just checked mine again, mfd 07/18 VIN 49xxx. Center hole does have threaded hole but no indentation mark of ever having a bolt there. On photo I’m pushing up on cover, when I let go it drops about 1/2 inch.

My bumper cover overfilled after every car wash just with water hose. I imagine during rainy day it would be constantly overflowing to composite material softening and weakening it till eventually it breaks apart.

Yes hole #5 is the right spot just with a bigger hole, unfortunately I started on #1 and it did start draining so I did holes 2 & 3 to help out but no water drained from there.

I think this will be a bigger problem for people living in cold weather when water on bumper freezes adding weight to bumper and composite material.

I had the same gap on mine and was told the same but I still had them replace my weatherstripping. This water test was done after new weatherstripping and no visible gaps but water still enters car. Weatherstripping is not the problem, water enters from behind taillights.

Here I’m using screwdriver to show how much clearance there is where I drilled.

I think Tesla must be aware of problem and they’re removing middle bolt in hopes it’ll drain but as you can see from my first video nothing drains out of there.

I watched many YouTube model 3 videos including tear downs and bumper removal before drilling. Also found pictures of bumpers removed so I had an idea of what’s under.

After drilling final 2 holes no more water drained from composite material. Holes 1 & 5 seems to be the best spot for draining.

First hole drilled was not enough and water still ended overflowing so I drilled 2 more but nothing came out of these.
