Model X has single 72A charger

I wonder when they'll announce the software update increasing the maximum current to 80 amps.

    Missed opportunity: No inverter

You are correct. The Tesla Model X comes with USB charge ports accessible in every seating position.

    Facelifted Model S?

    Yeah, a license plate.

Reactions to Model X reveal event

It's a utility vehicle. Plastic is more durable, easier to clean, and also easier to mount stuff to than leather. Plastic is also more rigid, which may make the seats safer for people sitting in them.

Reactions to Model X reveal event

Fully automatic doors prevent fingers and hands from being crushed. It's a safety feature. I'm sure you know somewhere who has been injured by a car door at some point. Improving car safety has always been one of the main goals of Tesla since they started designing the Model S. Don't expect...

    Purple Metallic

That's not too bad. Tesla was charging $12k back when they were offering custom paint jobs.

Model S Executive Rear Seats With Arm Rest

I dunno. You're basically buying the car for the backseat features which are very few right now. Since they're going this way, I expect Tesla will be continuously adding a ton of new features to future versions of this config. There's no reason we won't see reclining seats, a refrigerator in the...

Chevy Bolt - 200 mile range for $30k base price (after incentive)

Not true at all. Once you put batteries into a solar system it becomes a luxury item that every person can justify having. Currently home solar power is not much more than a hobby like extreme couponing or sewing your own clothes.

    Best Roadster deal ever?

That is generally how depreciation works.

    Range versus Motor HP

Motor horsepower is not affecting the 0-60 time in this case. It is the battery's maximum power output instead. Tesla may even be stating the maximum horsepower the motor is capable of if it were connected to a more capable battery. Since they have said that a S60 can rent a 85 kwh pack from a...

Jay Leno on Tesla: 'We've reached the point where success is jeered."

The majority of Jay Leno's cars are antiques and many do not even have internal combustion engines. He has commissioned unique cars in the past and will most likely continue to do so in the future.

Hearing about the D just 9 days after taking delivery of P85+ merits a switch!!!

Just reading this thread changed my opinion on whether I'd even want to be the kind of person who would buy a P-version Tesla.

About time to unveil the D and something else

If this car actually doesn't have any side mirrors, that could explain the upgrade in the resolution of the instrument panel display.

Realistically, How Long Can We Expect a Model S to Last?

Luckily for you they do have those more common options now, so you're halfway there.

Rumors - upcoming features, costs, etc.

    1. Yes, they could make a higher capacity pack by making a bigger pack and achieve the price point you are asking for, but then it would not be swappable with the Model S pack and it would weigh more. 2. Tesla is totally reliant on Panasonic for their battery technology and Panasonic has no...

Rumors - upcoming features, costs, etc.

At best you're looking at a 9 kwh boost for $15-25k. A 110 kwh battery is not happening for at least 5 years.

Stolen Model S crashes after police pursuit. 7/4/14

If it is done by mistake and the car stops in a bad neighborhood the owner could be robbed or killed.

Why does accelerating fast use more energy than accelerating slowly?

This is one of the reasons. Here is a chart for the NCR18650A battery cell. Voltage slumps at higher discharge currents, requiring more current to compensate. Total discharged mah also decreases in one instance. At higher currents you get a lot less energy out and a lot more lost to heat in the...

Are Electric Cars Really Cleaner (No, according to NBC News)

Actually there are plenty of ways to make combustible fuels that are fairly clean. Most of the ways just aren't very efficient yet.

    Need a Model S for a video

I'm looking to shoot a few second clip of a device I've created sitting inside of a Model S. The device was in part inspired by my experience at Teslive last year. I'll be in Redondo Beach on Wednesday and Irvine on Thursday if anyone is interested.

    Model S Price Increase discussion

If you're a person with time and cash to burn then maybe you can justify a gas guzzler. If you don't have time to waste at the pump and repair shop then the Model S makes more sense.

    Virgin Superchargers

I was only referring to the one in the picture posted by davecolene0606. An electrical issue caused by a broken solar panel could take down the whole row of superchargers. That is why I suggested a non-solar canopy instead.
  31. A

    Virgin Superchargers

It would probably be a pretty bad idea to install solar panels below a bunch of palm trees which would block the sun and which are known to drop heavy, roof breaking fronds. It would make a lot more sense just to install a normal non-solar canopy here.

    Air Suspension Price Increase

People have been saying on here that air suspensions are very prone to breaking. It could have more to do with the cost of warrantying it.

Swapping is Coming [Discuss how it will be accomplished]

My guess is that they will announce that they're building a new battery swapping robot for service centers that will install your new 100 kwh battery in under 5 minutes.

What Would You Like to Request for Teslive?

I would like a USB cellphone charger made with one Tesla sourced Panasonic NCR18650A cell. It's worth noting that one cell can recharge an iPhone twice.

    Fisker Karma

I think this forum has given you an unrealistic view of what people know. Most people don't know anything and most of the people who will be buying EVs in the future don't either.

    VW XL1 or Model S

It's also going to be much more efficient driving in battery mode. I just really like the form factor of a car that is so light it can do away with power steering. I also like the idea of being able to get one 55 gallon drum of waste cooking oil from a restaurant, convert it to biodiesel and...

    VW XL1 or Model S

While the Model S is definitely the better car, there is just something very appealing about the ability to go 700 miles on $10 of diesel. The XL1 is the PHEV GM should have built while they were developing a real EV.

    VW XL1 or Model S

Consumer Reports - Winter chills limit range of the Tesla Model S electric car

Jesus ****ing Christ. This guy is the Senior Auto Test Engineer and he doesn't even understand the basic physics involved in cars. A lack of regenerative breaking isn't what reduces highway range. The substantially higher aerodynamic drag, which increases as a square of speed, is what decreases...

Model S - Easy or Hard to Steal?

Considering that the whole car is controlled by a remotely upgradeable computer, I highly doubt that they use the same easily hackable keyless entry system as BMW. If this ever happened to a Tesla it would just take one firmware upgrade to fix the problem.

California DMV - Plates & HOV Stickers

As I said, you probably won't ever be taking them off. They are set to expire in 2015 but they will probably be extended at least until 2018. The only people still driving around prii with yellow stickers on them are those too busy to bother to take them off.
  48. A

California DMV - Plates & HOV Stickers

They're very brittle and break up into small pieces when removed. I'd be more worried about the paint weathering differently than from the adhesive. You probably won't ever be taking them off so I wouldn't worry about it.

getting HPWC .. what do I tell the electrician..

That's pretty insulting to the Tesla engineers who spent a lot of time making sure that that was not the case. The speed with which the battery is charged has virtually no affect on battery longevity. Changing from standard charging mode to range charging mode only increases the maximum...
