    Plaid Sport Bucket Seats

If only that were true. Jan 2023 - purchase used 2021 Model S. Took even more deprecation hit than new cars did. Worth less than half that now. New only for me from now on. No sense dealing with used issues, growing pain issues and taking such a depreciation hit in the process.

    Plaid Sport Bucket Seats

I'll never buy a used car again. My '21 Model S LR is the first used car I bought since being a poor college kid, and it was a mistake. It's taken me a year to shake the demons from my Model S LR. Nothing major, just small stuff that's needed adjusting, correcting and silencing. But I still...

C’mon now, let’s be real. The only seats that qualify as mint are unfarted. The rest … are just used. 😄

    Will legacy ever see V12?

Waiting for my wife to get home so I can push the install on her Classic X ... This entire thread should be an apology to Tesla at this point. 5 pages of nonsense hand-wringing over nothing.

    Ordering from EPC?

I just put it under Other/Other. Never had an issue. Just tell them you’re looking to place a parts-only order for part# XYZ …

    Will legacy ever see V12?

I really wish I liked sunroofs. I've had more than my share of cars with them, and just find I never open them. They can go for a year at a time without being opened at all... glad someone does though!
  8. dmurphy

    Will legacy ever see V12?

No, they do not. Only the "refresh" models do, and those started mid-2021.
  9. dmurphy

    Will legacy ever see V12?

Wait a second … you mean they’re doing exactly what they said they would and all this hand wringing was for naught? Ya don’t say …….

    Wiki Trailer-friendly Supercharger Locations

Entirely possible. .... but not always. I ended up having to drop the trailer here.... there was no alternative. ... and that's the thing. I'm OK blocking a stall if there's multiple free, but don't leave the area, either. If it gets busy and we're down to the last stall, I'll move...

    New AutoPark with USS

    Hahaha - it’s just not built for a northeast lifestyle! The 3, S and X can’t keep up. :-)
  12. dmurphy

    New AutoPark with USS

I can park the car, get out and be in the store long before Autopark even makes its first move. I was woefully unimpressed. Found it nothing more than a parlor trick, but understand how it could help others. I’m just a speed parker I guess.

Need help on "Free Unlimited Supercharging for Life"...

That’s insane! Your peak rate is > 3x ours, and even off peak is 2x. I can completely see the value in FUSC with rates like that. For us, it’s ABC - “always be charging” …. When I get home, plug the car in and forget about it. For you, charging needs solid planning. Wow. I’ve always...

    New AutoPark with USS

That’a the original Autopark. I’ve had it in my S for eons too. (PS - it’s so slow it’s worthless.)
  15. dmurphy

Need help on "Free Unlimited Supercharging for Life"...

Curious what your kWh rate is? Ours is about $0.17/kWh, and at that rate, I’d rather save the time and charge at home, unless on a road trip.
  16. dmurphy

    FUSC doesn't include destination charging?

Those Destination Chargers are operated by the hosts, not Tesla themselves. The host sets the fee (if any) and gets paid for it. So yes, FUSC does not include Destination Charging. That’s a wholly separate network, operated by Tesla themselves.

    Will legacy ever see V12?

Sure …. But people above called the 3% of eligible cars number “incredibly bullshit” … it is not. It’s fairly accurate. That’s all I was replying to. I do agree though, it needs to be fixed. I am confident it will be, in fairly short order. They may be “classic” models but certainly not end...

    Will legacy ever see V12?

It’s still a small number compared to the 3s/Ys out there. Let’s assume every X/S produced from 2016-2020 is in this category. Average is around 60k/year of S/X. 5 years of S/X sales is still less than 1 quarters’ worth of 3/Y sales. Now let’s assume FSD take rate on those S/X vehicles is...

    Will legacy ever see V12?

Personally, I find “ha ha screw you, we’re just never going to update your software again” to be the least likely outcome here. By a wide margin.
  20. dmurphy

    Will legacy ever see V12?

The cabin cam stuff is speculation. Tesla isn’t silent - Rohan Patel (Tesla business development exec) specifically called out this situation as one that’s being worked. Patience. It’s not easy I know - and I’m in the same boat BTW - but they ARE working on it and HAVE communicated as such.
  21. dmurphy

    Will legacy ever see V12?

No, it isn’t. Both my Model X (2020) and Model 3 (2019) are almost identical in performance. They feel similar and have identical processors — but are divergent in many of the systems around the cpu. They’re different enough to warrant a different firmware build.

2021 S Air Filter (Under Hood)15"x15" Element Part Number ?

There is a P/N stamped on the filter but last I looked it couldn’t be ordered on its own …. Hopefully that’s changed!
  23. dmurphy

2021 S Air Filter (Under Hood)15"x15" Element Part Number ?

Yes. But only the front “door” part changed. There’s no need to replace the back half which is a lot of work - changing the door is about 10 seconds. The Tesla parts catalog only lists the entire housing+filter - it does not show “just” the filter, hence the confusion about whether the car...

Good Riddance: The '22 Tesla Model S Plaid Saga Comes to an End

Fallacy #1: Considering a Tesla (even an S or X) a "luxury" vehicle. It's nothing special. And I mean that in the nicest of ways. It's not bespoke, it's not hand assembled, it's not some rare beast. It's an assembly line car, like millions upon millions of others produced every year. Sure...

Used Plaid market... Are 2021 Model to avoid ?

It's not a Plaid, but I bought a '21 Long Range last year (January 2023 -- you know, right before the big price drops ... ugh.) Bought it with 15,600 miles on it. As of now (March 2024) - has 31,960 miles. Only minor issues - mostly just my OCD-can't-stand-cabin-noises acting up. - Bash...

Refreshed Model S - rear seat rattle

I know they added some felt tape behind the headliner, somewhere in the right rear, but I’m not inclined to pull it down and find out exactly where. I dont have any rattles or squeaks currently and don’t want to poke at it and make some appear unnecessarily. Best advice I have is push on the...

Refreshed Model S - rear seat rattle

So I thought I had a rear seat squeak and rattle … I already wrapped the latches in tape. Had my S in the shop for something else and asked them to check the rear seat one more time … Turns out, it wasn’t the seat at all. The rattle and squeak was from the *headliner*! Problem solved — the...

Class action for Model S drive unit failure?

More luck than planning, but this thread makes me thrilled I went for the “cheap” version of our X & S both. LR+ (Raven) and LR (Palladium) respectively. Means no LDUs for us which appears to be a winning strategy. I hope.

    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

Very sorry to hear that. What were the issues you ran into? Ours has been, if not flawless, dang close. I mean, we had the early half shaft vibrations everyone else did, and a squeaky upper control arm, but both of those are minor in the grand scheme and have been 100% fixed. It's been...

    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

So, a funny thing happened. These rumors started flying around and I began thinking “maybe it would be nice to upgrade our X … if I can take FSD & FUSC with me.” So I’ve been watching patiently to see what’s happening here, and the answer is … nothing. In the meanwhile, I gave the X a nice...

    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

I agree and I’m becoming more skeptical on these updates as the days go by. I doubt it’ll work out timing wise to get the FUSC/FSD transfer and these updates in this round. But that’s OK …. Tesla needs my money more than I need a new X.

Whatever happened to the front bumper camera and ambient lighting?

Here was the single source I’ve seen about it: I’m seriously hoping this is true; my wife will upgrade her X if it is. Otherwise, we keep the Raven.

How long did it take you to get used to the stalk-less turn signals?

No, they are most definitely different. The fabric of the airbag itself has a different shape for yoke vs wheel; the one for the yoke has to pop out the back a little to give it some support on the upper half. They actually issued a recall for vehicles where someone used a yoke airbag on a...
  35. dmurphy

How long did it take you to get used to the stalk-less turn signals?

The yoke and original wheel also used different airbags, and that was still a $700 swap. No real difference here in the “what needs tI be replaced” department.

    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

“Supposedly” massaging seats are on the way, too. If Tesla could guarantee those, plus the FUSC + FSD transfers, I’d upgrade my wife’s X right this minute. If not, we’ll keep it. (Happy wife, happy life. If massaging seats are important to her, so be it …)

Need Advice on allstate declaring my bumper/panel damage totaled!

Exactly right. Stop the nonsense, call your own carrier and let them work the claim. You’ll have to lay out your deductible but they can subrogate that back from Allstate. Allstate couldn’t care less about you as you’re not their customer. Their only concern is paying as little as...

Need Advice on allstate declaring my bumper/panel damage totaled!

This is, IMO, not great advice. Your own insurance company has much more experience and many more lawyers than you do …. Let them go to work on your behalf. If you’re not at fault, they’ll recover your deductible for you as well. I prefer to have the army of lawyers go to town for me and...

Tesla Model S with bad drive unit for sale

My thinking would be to use it as trade in fodder to Tesla ... if it has free unlimited Supercharging, you can transfer that to any new Tesla model right now through 3/31. Just a thought.
  40. dmurphy

Anyone with success getting Tesla to undo their unjust SC01 -> SC04 that happened after buying second-hand?

Unfortunately your facts here …. Aren’t accurate. There are absolutely vehicles manufactured before this date that didn’t have free Supercharging —- in fact, there are cars which did not have Supercharging access *at all*, paid or otherwise. There’s another thread going around about one of...

Best front license plate bracket option

See, I'm actually a proponent of the front plate. I think all cars should have them. Reason being - when someone does something stupid (like this person who rear-ended our Model 3) ... Teslacam can capture the front plate. Gives us the best chance to identify bad actors.

Leviton introduces new 14-50 receptacle for EV charging

They’ll advertise the Leviton as an “EV Receptacle” at the big box stores and sell piles of ‘em. The Bryant/Hunbeell is the better choice and likely what most electricians will use …. Just resell them at Leviton prices. :-)

First Drive with a Steering Wheel on a Model S

I’m not the one who said yokes are only good for low performance aircraft, you are. So a 747 with a yoke…. is that a low performance aircraft? You tell me.

Leviton introduces new 14-50 receptacle for EV charging

And, of course, the non-weather-resistant version is the only one available on their website. Because Leviton, that's why. Methinks I'll stick with Bryant/Hubbell. Cheaper, too. https://www.amazon.com/Bryant-Electric-9450FR-Straight-Receptacle/dp/B003A2R9RM?th=1

Insurance claim for non-accident? What all is needed?

This would almost certainly be a collision claim, not comprehensive. The damage was from driving off-road into something static - not moving - i.e. the mud. It's like if a truck throws, say, a sofa in the middle of the road. If it hits your vehicle while airborne, it's a comprehensive claim...

First Drive with a Steering Wheel on a Model S

Joe - we're drifting way off topic here but I'd sure love to see photos of your collection. That Airstream is a beauty, and a Jewett, really? How many of those have survived? Can't be more than a handful!

Indeed. I'm really happy Tesla offers both now ... different strokes for different folks. Would be a REALLY boring world without choices! Cheers!
