    Tesla Compact Hatch Coming?

For the best battery health, Tesla recommends avoiding charging over 80% or using below 20%. Pragmatically, that means dropping 40% of range for best battery care. we live on an island, and we’re unhappy that (fairly early adopters) the short range battery model was not available—we had to pay...

Easy way to fix iPhone12 pro max wireless charging on Model3

Mine works OK, but only in certain cases or without case. My primary case has a clear back so it’s rim is not flush on the back to protect the clear finish. This means no contact and no charging inside the M3, but it does work on my indoor phone charger because the charger itself is smaller...

Model Y Perf or BMW X3M?

I think this is good advice. I drove Porsche 911’s and Acura NSX and now have had a Porsche CaymanS for 14 years with zero issues. We bought a Model 3 2 motor sedan two years ago for my wife. The major negative to the Tesla for someone who drives high end performance vehicles as you have been...

New 2021 Model 3 and iPhone 12 pro max

Neilio, the problem in our case is...the case with the raised ridge! iPhone 12 charges fine on Tesla supplied pad without case, and also works fine with a different case ftom same manufacturer tgat dues not have the raised ridge. We favor this particular brand because they use only recycled...

Solar Panels on a Flat Roof

Our understanding is the same—latitude for panel angle. Here in Hawaii, we’re at 22 degrees. Not clear on what you’re suggesting for flatter angle for cloudy days? Our rainy season is winter, when the sun’s angle is lower in the sky. Since power is generated by light—whether it’s direct sun or...

New 2021 Model 3 and iPhone 12 pro max

Our -2 ProMax’s fit well on Tesla’s wireless charger, but with part of the case design to slightly raise the phone body from the charger (to protect the camera lenses) it does not charge. Has anybody found a MAG charging solution that works well for M3/MY? Otherwise, will have to try the...

New 2021 Model 3 and iPhone 12 pro max

all good EXCEPT—the 12 Pro is the smallest phone with the new three lenses. While two of our four family members bought ProMax, the other two bought pro because they preferred the size. The new camera in Pro and ProMax is pretty good!!!

Range with 1 person vs 3 persons (Roadtrip)

Can’t speak to quantitative wind effects on our Model 3 because our trips here in Maui are so short, but can certainly attest to wind and our Sprinter one-ton towing an Airstream from SoCal to Texas and from SoCal to Washington state. Tailwinds would make huge differences, as you’re effectively...

For Those Who Went From Model 3 to Model Y

Great Photo--thank you! We have a 2018 M3 LR AWD for my wife that we love. It's the "family car" and it just does everything so well. My personal car is a Porsche Cayman S, and of course, the engine sound is wonderful, and the handling is also of course noticeably superior in feel to the Tesla...

I have an M3 AWD 2018 and my iPhone 8 plus was running fine as a key for several months until there was a particular software upgrade and it stopped functioning. Tried all the many suggestions on the forum of disconnecting, resetting up, etc. and was able to get it to work. BUT several software...

    Unexpected Tesla Fans

Oh that’s just cruel! If true, very sad for you! I have two friends with Prius, and they are great people! First to adapt to electric cars, both very athletic, one guy older actor extremely tall. One guy technically oriented, the other built his own kit Camaro. So sad for you—not all Prius...

First Time Driving a Tesla- Just got my MY

All in personal preference! As former stick shift drivers, both my wife and I find standard mode amazingly wonderful. We love the strong engine braking and have developed a gentle touch in the accelerator/decelerator pedal. And to knkw that we have the brakes in reserve beyond engine braking is...

First Time Driving a Tesla- Just got my MY

Nice write up—had me laughing out loud! For all you first time Tesla drivers, one very important thing—Autopilot is a toy, and a dangerous one at that. We are all being used to beta test it, but unlike other computer programs, it’s happening in the real world with potentially dangerous and...

Case Study: Deer Strike in a MYP

I think that they car did its job well, as the forces involved are considerable and yiu said that the damage to you—the most valuable and irreplaceable part of the “car”—was non-existent. Airbags look like they were not needed based on what you wrote. My brother hit an elk in Colorado and his...

First pedestrian killed by Autopilot, family sues

IMHO, AP is a dangerous toy. As this poster said, you should be WAY MORE ALERT when using it than when not. It’s kinda like putting a five year old in your lap to drive in traffic—but a 5 year old that has teenage stubbornness traits. I use it from time to time—of course I think it’s cool and...

    Coronavirus

It has been hypothesized that poor people may be more vulnerable because they may live in denser areas and because they may not have the luxury of skipping work in unsafe conditions—grocery, delivery, big box stores—so “social distancing” may not be possible.

    Regenerative braking vs brake pedal

We’ve noticed this too. Both of us just LOVE the one pedal driving. As I explained to my wife when we made the switch from ICE muscle cars that she loved to drive in lower gears for both the power and deceleration capability, it’s liking being in first gear all the time!

    Regenerative braking vs brake pedal

On the Model 3, the regen line is green when regenerating power and black in the opposite direction when consuming power. At night, the color changes when the display background auto changes to black. Awesome vehicles.

I’ll get roasted but here goes anyway

With our iPhone 8 and 8+, we had no problems until a recent software upgrade. My wife’s phone is still fine (same OS version), but mine is intermittent—fine fir a few weeks, then requires that I START to open the app. First time this happened, I disconnected and reconnected phone and also...

Anyone got pics of the hatchback open?

Cool—thanks for photo! Now if only Tesla would make a real SUV—one tgat is actually a Sports Utility Vehicle suitable for transporting things like 8 foot windsurf boards, or sheets of plywood. Would be so nice if failing that, the Cybertruck would have the option of a full passthru into the...

Trip Report: Reno, NV (Presidents Day Weekend 2020)

The crest of the hill is probably the most dangerous part of the drive—you can’t see oncoming vehicle and they can’t see you. So fir example if they had drifted into your lane coming towards you in the other side of the hill, and the AP lurched towards the center at that same moment as you...

What's the most surprising thing you've found once you got your Tesla?

We had this problem, too. Our service advisor told us (over the phone) tgat it was a faulty stalk. One week later, our ranger showed up with a new stall and replaced it. Works perfectly now. So far our service has been amazingly good—best I’ve ever experienced. And I come from Porsche’s and...

Blog Tesla Owner Cleared of Criminal Charges After Explaining ‘Dog Mode’

We actually found a dog-seat that is padded and held in place by rear seat seat belt. It has a leash like clip on a strap coming from the back to attach to our puppy. Only use it when she’s wearing a chest harness so it wouldn’t choke her. Not as good as a full child seat, but an improvement...

Teslas for Females - Practicality vs Fun?

My wife has always liked driving fast cars, whether her Mustang GT, or her stealthy Volvo S60R. We bought a Model 3 to replace her twin turbo, dual clutch racing transmission VW GLI, and she of course insisted on dual motors even though the RWD was already a very quick vehicle. She found the...

Teslas for Females - Practicality vs Fun?

Hey! Glad you love ur Model3! But not surprising that your insurance would be a bit pricier on a similar initially priced 2018 or so as compared to a 2003 model! What do you think the replacement cost is fir each from the insurance company’s point if view, fr example? You might find it...

    Tesla moments

It’s perfect for groceries. Not all fit, but most do, and it holds them secure for more active driving. It’s amazing how much will actually hold. My vintage (2006) Porsche Cayman S also has a frunk. The Cayman’s is deep enough for small suitcases or carry-ons, and keeps the weight really low.

Optimum amp charge rate for Model 3 long range battery longevity?

With the solar system and battery storage system that we added to our Airstream, we learned all about charge rates. Single charge converter blew through batteries pretty quickly, and three stage (or more) chargers were vastly preferred. Flood rate when low, then slowing as you approach full...

Optimum amp charge rate for Model 3 long range battery longevity?

We picked up our dial motor long range battery Model 3 in November of 2018. I recently noticed on our charging screen that one can manually set the amp charging rate. After a recent software update, ours was set to 5 amps, so obviously charge times became very long. We have a properly...

Model 3 review - After moving from RWD to AWD

Interestingly, our local service center told us that the AWD should get better mileage than the RWD—maybe because the two motors can operate at lower power demand than just the one, and that overcomes the added weight and friction from second set of gear reduction? But in your oarticukar case...
