    Rolling Resale Value Thread

I think it’s more that Tesla has been cruising on its competitors being extremely supply limited for the last two years. That’s opening up now—can readily get the Ioniq 5/ EV6 without markup in a lot of the country, for example. Used pricing is going to reflect that.

    Rolling Resale Value Thread

Wound up trading in yesterday for $51k. Instant purchase quotes have dropped into the mid-$40s. All used car prices are dropping, but the bottom has definitely fallen out of the Tesla market.

    Rolling Resale Value Thread

I was gobsmacked by how significantly the online purchasing quotes dropped for my car. '21 MYP ~20k. Vroom may well have been an outlier on how much they were willing to pay in August, but wow is that a huge drop in a couple of months. Rude awakening on my new car plans LOL Vroom: January...

Do we have any recourse for this insanely poor paint quality?

The strike zone on my Y's rear doors was trashed within 150 miles of driving on paved roads. It's no-excuses bad paint.
  5. LionelHutz

Do we have any recourse for this insanely poor paint quality?

You're talking about the dimpled paint in the 911 arch/side skirt area? It's factory coating designed to protect against chips--very deliberate. The poster above unfortunately just has a really awful paint job.

    Inaccurate charge limits?

This is in coastal SoCal--definitely not a temperature issue.
  7. LionelHutz

    Inaccurate charge limits?

Over the last few months, I've noticed that my car often doesn't hit the selected % for scheduled charge, and can be over/under by as much as 3-4% (e.g., charge set to 80% will result in the car being charged anywhere between 76-84%). Has anybody else seen similar behavior? It's been a year...

    Model Y P vs Rivian R1S

Man, there would be 100 posters in here with pitchforks if this was a $$$$TSLA FUD post.

Picture of your Model Y - Right Now!

Follow-up post on this as the Adams Graphene continues to really impress. It's been a couple of months since application, and the car has been through lots of rain, a bit of snow, and nearly weekly washes. The beading is still going strong and paint looks great. Have done nothing to reapply...

DIY Ceramic coating - don't waste money with a pro

Not really. You'd be putting a good coating on top of a less durable coating. You may be able to find a detailer who will agree to do all the prep work but not apply the coating (but I think the ones charging 250-400 for a coating probably aren't doing quality prep).

Wall box brand chargers, any experiences?.

We have a Wall Box for another car and are happy with it. Well made and lets us schedule charging which is all we needed from it. It has an LED status bar that seems impossible to disable which strikes me as a waste of energy, but probably not very much. I don't see any real advantage over...

Picture of your Model Y - Right Now!

I decided to test a product that I've been curious about (Adam's Graphene Spray Coating) while my paint was still in good shape. So I stripped the Turtle Wax and put on two coats of the Adams spray over the course of a few days. It's hard to tell from a bunch of iPhone photos, but the Adam's...

Model Y Steering Ratio is 10.3, like a sports car.

Ugh, the turning radius is by far my least favorite thing about how the Y drives--nearly a 40' radius. It makes it so clumsy in parking lots. Our other car (ID4 EV, virtually the exact same size as the Y) has a turning radius 7 feet tighter.

    V11 Transition Guide

I’ve seen swings in predicted SoC as high as +/- 8 between the start and end of a drive. I’d like to have it prominently displayed if I’m going to finish a drive at 18% or be squeaking in with 10% or less.

Your input on Efficiency penalty in changing tires

The consumption difference in going from the MYP Pirellis to Pilot Sport AS4s has been within the margin of error for me. On paper I'm using 10-13 more wh/mi but a good chunk of the AS4 miles have been at highway speed with a hitch mounted bike rack (with and without a bike).

    Passenger temp display in v11

I originally noticed that it synced with the passenger weight sensor. Now it's 100% random, and on most of the time with an empty passenger seat.

    Volkswagen ID4 Interface Review

Hot take incoming: The ID4 UI is buggy as heck, and the capacitive interface is a crime. But I still prefer driving my wife’s ID4 over my v11 Y. Critical touch points are easy to find in the VW. The backup camera works and does not lag. It has wireless CarPlay that lets me play directly from...

Lots of refinement between 2020 and 2022 Model Y

Regular life-cycle improvements happen with virtually every luxury OEM for what it's worth, excepting Lexus/Toyota's absurdly long life cycles. The Germans change up their models every 2-3 years.

    Genesis GV60

Looks very ambitious. Excited to see it come to market.

    v11 software update SUCKS

According to Tesla, Homelink usage is so low that it shouldn’t be a built-in item and should only be a service center installed option (at least that’s the excuse). Meanwhile, I cannot think of a single thing that v11 made easier or more intuitive for me.

    V.11 Specific Range Loss?

I haven't noticed a big hit in calculated range, but have noticed that battery % appears to drop more quickly than before. My ~16 mile commute today cost me 20% in battery. The reported wh/mi are comparable to before, so no idea what's going on.

    Model Y Concealed Radar

Really depends on where you are and how local LEOs are equipped. If they're using Laser/LIDAR, the radar detector is basically just going to tell you that they just got your speed. If they're using POP/burst radar, you might get lucky and pick up scatter from them measuring other cars. But...

2021 Holiday Firmware Release - Predictions and Impressions (after release)

Passenger temp control pops up based on the passenger seat weight sensor. I had a backpack on my passenger seat yesterday and it was enough to trigger the right-hand temp control.

How are you liking update 2021.44.25.2?

LOL and the UI still manages to cut off the top of the phone keypad.
  27. LionelHutz

    v11 software update SUCKS

This is a good example of why v11 is a problem. It’s not a computer operating system where the user can be expected to poke around in sub-menus to find features. It’s an automotive UI—if there’s a learning curve for basic controls that is too steep to handle while driving, it’s a failure. I...

2021 Holiday Firmware Release - Predictions and Impressions (after release)

Is anybody else encountering severe lag with the backup camera? Prior to v11 I’d get some lag for the first 5-10 seconds after the car booted. With v11 that seems to be 30 seconds or more, with even more dropped frames. It makes backing up sketchy AF.
  29. LionelHutz

    v11 software update SUCKS

Have now gone about a week and 4-500 miles of driving, with heavy nav use and multiple driver changes. What an absolute dumpster fire of an update. Doing almost anything (even checking the blind spot camera location!) requires taking an unreasonable amount of attention away from the road...

How are you liking update 2021.44.25.2?

Because users love it when the UI moves function buttons depending on what application is running... Just an infuriating update and I'm not confident Tesla will fix it.
  31. LionelHutz

How are you liking update 2021.44.25.2?

How the heck do you re-center the nav screen while en route? The compass button doesn't appear to be anywhere on the interface when nav is active.

MYP 21' Michelin Pilot AS4 Sizing

It won't have foam unless it has "T0" (Tesla) in the model number.

New update 2021.44.25 adds customizable app launcher like Model S refresh plus other major upgrades to system.

Teslascope (who broke the news) are speculating that the public release won't be 44.25 given some glitches they've seen in that release.

2021 Holiday Firmware Release - Predictions and Impressions (after release)

Model Y blind spot can also be sketchy AF. It's the first car I've ever owned where I can't set the mirrors to avoid blind spots.

Anyone thinking about an VW ID.4 Instead?

ABRP absolutely does take elevation into account, and does realtime weather (wind and temp) with premium.
  36. LionelHutz

Anyone thinking about an VW ID.4 Instead?

We have a MYP and an ID4. My thoughts, in no particular order: ID4 is built far, far better than the MY. It has that nice EU-built Touareg/Golf R solidity to it. ID4 is slow. At speed it is slow enough to feel a little dicey doing highway maneuvers. ID4 is substantially cheaper--with Fed...

    New Software 2021.40.6

This update includes some subtle UI improvements. The visualization car model is redone, and it seems like the side camera displays are higher resolution (could be fooling myself on that one).

MYP 21' Michelin Pilot AS4 Sizing

Update with around 1,500 miles on the AS4s. Still extremely happy with them. Some noticeable advantages over the Pirellis: overall ride comfort/suppleness, appearance, and obviously more versatile in bad weather. No downsides that I've seen. Road noise is less intrusive than the Pirellis...

    Model Y P vs Rivian R1S

This is sensible policy. High earners probably won't have their decision to buy an EV or not influenced by the tax break. And EVs no longer need to be high priced vehicles.

    Model Y vs Electrified GV70

The GV70 will definitely get you there. I love the interior design and the build quality and materials are good. Lots of little premium features like the blind spot camera on turn signal, fingerprint ID, and exterior key control.
  42. LionelHutz

    Model Y vs Electrified GV70

The GV70 is a really nice car. It feels just as premium as any CUVs coming from BMW or Audi right now, if not more so, and IMHO it looks great. The ICE motor options are kind of crummy, so it's great to see it get electrified.

    Model Y P vs Rivian R1S

Even this is overcomplicating it. Model X is rated at ~330 miles, but gets <300 miles in real world testing. R1T is rated at 315 miles and gets a couple miles more in real world testing. Tesla has always been very aggressive with their stated EPA range and it's starting to show vs. other...

New Edmunds' Article. Mach-E GT vs MYP.

Doesn't answer the question of why you think the Mach-E has to be measured against the Model S plaid. But no, I have no reason to think that Ford is interested in a powerful, low volume EV coupe right now. Established automakers have a huge CAFE and GHG incentive to roll out mass-market EVs...

New Edmunds' Article. Mach-E GT vs MYP.

Wait, are you seriously suggesting that the Mach-E GT--a $60,000 CUV--needs to be compared to the f'ing Model S PLAID? There seems to be a big pot/kettle situation with you criticizing Edmunds objectivity.
  47. LionelHutz

    Model Y P vs Rivian R1S

Have owned the Pro and have a MYP now. The engine and transmission in the 4Runner are shameful for a car being built in 2021. But on the other hand it has that “buy it for life” feel—MY doesn’t. The two don’t have anything in common driving. 4Runner has a bash through everything style and is...

    Model Y P vs Rivian R1S

Family member has an S from years after the launch... roof, rear motor, chargeport all required early replacements. Now on its 4th or 5th set of door handles, with the most recent replacement this year. FWIW it looks like the suspension is near max ride height in those photos. The suspension...

    Model Y P vs Rivian R1S

They had a fleet of pre-production cars. Their first commercial delivery was like a month ago, and now they're starting to ramp production. And they're building (and prioritizing) Amazon trucks at the same time. Fine with me if they ramp slowly instead of rushing to build cars in a tent with...
