    New Oregon Superchargers (2018)

I dropped by the Springfield OR Supercharger last week. Six new bollards and a new charging block are up, and landscaping is completed. But when I was there (Nov 19), the power was not turned on yet.

Calendar App with IOS and Multiple Calendars

Please disregard my report. The bug in the mobile app (at least for Android) was fixed by a push last night, and when it was fixed, the in-car display once again allows the view to be limited to selected calendars.

    Charging stops at different mileage

I wouldn't worry about one mile or two. Sometimes the rated range calculation is different based on the pattern of usage of the last discharge cycle. My rated range gets less and less over time without going on a long trip and deep discharge. then it rebounds to the number I'm used to seeing...

Rock chip in windshield after 4th day of ownership! Advice?

I had a rock chip in year 2 of ownership. The service center recommended a professional service to repair. He did a file and polish which made the chip almost invisible and stopped it from growing. However, whatever coating was on the windshield was removed in the process, for about a 3 inch...

What to do with phone? Mount?

Alas, I wish I could tell you. The only clip I have is the one that mounts on the lower edge of the center display. I leave it in place all the time. My best friend will be in town this weekend, and I'll give the vent clip he has a thorough review and see if I can answer your question after that.

What to do with phone? Mount?

I chose ProClipUSA, and am a very happy customer. The products are high-quality plastic, fit very well, and do not move. I bought a base and clip for a friend's FJ Cruiser who lives on a very bumpy 9-mile 4,000' dirt road climb from the nearest pavement. The clip stays fixed solid in the vent...

    Scalding Hot Door Handles!

I have found this on 3 summers now... My kids and I call them "nuclear hot". Pre-cooling the car exhausts enough cabin air out through the door handles, making them much easier to touch for more than just a moment.

Consumer Reports: "The Model S isn't a very good primary car"

Seriously, Model S is the primary car. Range for 95% of the time is MORE than enough, 4% on SuperCharger routes, and 1% where I might have to spend a little more time at lunch or dinner or overnight. 1%.

    Model S Bluetooth question...

Yes, and yes. The Model S will automatically pair with your phone - using the headset/handsfree bluetooth profile - with no manual input needed as you enter or get close to the vehicle. Incoming phone calls are automatic. If you're walking around the closed car on the phone, and you open...

    2013 P85+ with 20k miles or Inventory 70D with 2k miles...?

I'd go with Option 2. The future-tolerant hardware in a later model will mean ability to take advantage of more features later (autopilot, for one), and longer warranty (miles will hit first before time). I have a P85, and the number of times I use the "P" part is pretty small.

    Accident - need advice

Nicely said, ny888. I've noticed my Model S rolling easily even on very slight increases. If you're already in a little motion, less than 5 mph, and didn't know regen would not cause the car to slow to a stop less than 5 mph regen, a slight incline could easily feel like the car speeding up...

    Wiki Model S software/firmware changelog

The onboard route planner is only taking Superchargers into account, and only if they are close enough to each other to make the next one reachable with a good margin. To simulate this, go visit http://supercharge.info/, go to Map Options, turn all circles on, and set the range of those circles...

Glad you're getting your Model S on the road! Supercharger "speed" varies by: - How much charge you have left when you start... the lower your battery state of charge, the faster the Supercharger kicks in. - Whether you are the first or second to start at a pair of superchargers...

What's your favorite trip planning app?

tekhead introduced my favorite. evtripplanner.com is very Tesla-aware, considers elevation changes and even takes recharging stops at SuperChargers into account. Aside from that, I have my own GoogleDoc spreadsheet that I use to plot stops and charges. I use lookup functions to find mileage...

Why doesn't "The Sunshine State" use solar for the Telsa charging stations?

TM's Diarmuid O'connell spoke at TMC Connect, making a comment that solar power generation can be done at other locations - I think he used the word "offset". I took that as a good strategy: the offset is on the balance sheet (to take advantage of economy of scale - maintain all your panels in...

Any Hesitations Taking Kids on Long Road Trips?

Model S is a car. A GREAT car. If you'd consider taking your kids in a 19+ hour trip in any car, then Model S will be a great car for that. It is smooth, roomy, and quiet. I take trips with my kids a couple hundred miles every month. I've NEVER had an issue with car sickness because of the...

Who owns this Tesla in California?

ICEing at SCs and how to handle it

My reaction to reading that statement was "No wonder he got defensive!" It sounded pretty passive aggressive, since you obviously knew it wasn't a Tesla. He seemed to be a good sport, open to discussion, but that will not always be the case. I've had good luck pointing to the signs that say...

I agree. The NEMA 14-50's between Coeur d'Alene and Missoula are reported iffy. One of our local members did make it easily from Missoula to Coeur d'Alene in an 85 kWh car... it was in the summer, though, not winter.

Model S mileage in City vs. Highway

Chipper is right - it depends how you drive it. However, it is much EASIER to be efficient using cruise control on the highway. I typically drive my 21" wheel Model S at 68 mph, and when there's no headwind, my watt hours per mile is close to rated range. In the city, with stops and starts...

    Army of supercharger employees

You're on to a good question here. At TMC Connect, Diarmuid O'Connell mentioned that finding charging options for those who don't have off-street parking (he specifically mentioned NYC and London) is a problem that Tesla is working hard to solve. That's why we see two superchargers so close...

Portland, OR to Bay Area, CA in a 60kWh Model S

I've done the trip from Springfield to Grants Pass and back couple of times now, and found that I got about 70% efficiency (including rain, speed, and elevation). That means if you have 200 rated miles shown on the dash, you can make this route of about 140 actual miles easily in the clear...

    Model S Software/Firmware wishlist

I think that's because Waze may be set to send those announcements to the Bluetooth hands-free profile, rather than the Bluetooth audio profile (A2DP). Supercharger - Coeur d'Alene, ID (LIVE Feb 2015, 6 V2 + 8 V3 stalls)

Should be fine. A single charger can handle 10 kW (40A on both 120V legs of a NEMA 14-50: 40A*120=4.8kW, 4.8*2=9.6kW), so 24A across one 120V leg should be no problem.

Calculating an equivalent $/Gallon for the Model S

I usually tell people this: My gasoline bill each month was $250 for my driving pattern. When I switched to Tesla, that went to zero, and my electric bill only went up $45 a month, same driving patterns.. sometimes more, since now its so much more fun to drive!
