Wiki Selling TSLA Options - Be the House

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Is there a tax benefit to selling to close an option position at a near-100% loss vs letting it expire worthless? My 850C expiring tomorrow isn’t looking good.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Yep I bought a 2/28, a mid-May for the same reasons, and I’m waiting to buy a June 21 or 22 LEAP. Those prices aren’t moving nearly as much...the power of Theta and a big IV driving that.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Thanks KarenRei, this is very helpful and insightful, particularly the bits about how to structure the spread, which nicely answers my question about strike targets. Rather than get hung up on choosing a single strike price, the spread lets me span the entire range I was targeting (say 30% -...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Hey all, I’ve been enjoying this thread with great interest for the past few weeks, and I don’t think I have been on TMC so obsessively since late 2012, when we were all going bonkers over seeing any new pictures or videos of everyone’s newly delivered Model S, in all their glorious original...

    trading

This is exactly the kind of bet I would like to make, understanding that you probably need to make quite a few of these before you hit the lottery ticket day like .07 to $3 or $4. But I’m scared to death of buying a hundred or even ten contracts and having it expire ITM without being able to...

Could that sound also be your control arms? I have had my lower fronts replaced twice now, probable due to corrosion. And the knuckle joints replaced once as well.

I recall this happening once to ORCL stock decades ago...one “glitch” managed to tank the whole stock. Always suspected it was a manipulation. [Edit: this is in reference to the glitch trade at 428 captured above, I don’t know what happened to my thread quote]

    Options trading strategy/advice

Thanks for pointing this out. What happens in this case? Say you bought a large number of long calls that you couldn’t possibly exercise, which go deep ITM...a huge winner...but you can’t find a buyer for your sell to close order. You call your broker to tell them not to automatically...

    Options trading strategy/advice

Thanks ggr! I must not be using the platform correctly. Using ThinkorSwim's paperMoney, I right-click the call in my portfolio and select the topmost option of "Create Closing Order". You would think that would create a Sell to Close limit order, without a Max Loss = Infinite caveat. It does...

    Options trading strategy/advice

Total noob question(s) here. I've been long on TSLA since July 2012, when I first drove a P85 at Get Amped in Chicago. I've never sold a share, and am a believer in the TSLA bull cases in the thousands. Several times during this ride, I have considered getting into options to amplify this...

    Air Spring Suspension Leak

Yep discovered this after the fact, and plan to do it for the front struts. Letting Tesla do the rears, I don’t have time to do them myself before a long trek next week from PA to WI. They lowered the labor cost estimate by $275 after I pushed back on the $805, which helps a bit. Their labor...

Maybe that is why they increased the labor estimate!

    Air Spring Suspension Leak

I don’t know if that is even possible, but I can certainly inquire. The loaner they gave me today was a standard suspension car, and the chin it scraped as I pulled into my garage...I suppose I would have to get used to that!

    Air Spring Suspension Leak

Thanks much, this is helpful. I’ve asked them to cut me some relief on the labor, hopefully they will do so.
  22. JakeP

    Air Spring Suspension Leak

Tesla is charging me $2605 to replace both rear air struts, $900 per strut plus $315 in labor per strut, plus $175 in diagnosing the leak location. Is this unreasonable? Seems considerably higher than the 2018 cost of $2K for both at the start of this thread. 2012 S85 with 131,400 miles.

MCU fails for the second time

Absolutely agree. Tesla should be providing this fix at no cost to the owner, and including the MCU in the drivetrain warranty window. And don’t get me started on the brake pads comment...

MCU fails for the second time

I’ll have to let @tedsk answer that question for an accurate answer, but my recollection was that his job was made easier having a working MCU, as retrieving the data from the eMMC was possible. Even if it hadn’t been revived successfully, I was still going to send it to him for sure.

MCU fails for the second time

Update on my Black MCU situation. TL;DR is that it is FIXED, and I strongly recommend TMC user Tedsk as a guy who can help fix an MCU, quickly and for a fair and reasonable price! Details below: 1) I did email [email protected]. They didn’t respond for over a week, and then immediately...

MCU fails for the second time

Sadly my current one has never yellowed or bubbled in six and a half years! I hate to part with it, and I wish they could just replace the faulty EMMC chip and/or gateway SD card, so I could keep it!

Thanks for the tip Appleguru, I will definitely try that before shelling out $2400 for a replacement MCU!
  29. JakeP

MCU fails for the second time

I will certainly try that. If a third party can fix this for $100 instead of a $2400 replacement, Tesla should be able to do the same. Though assuming that these are mostly out of warranty and done at customer cost, it’s probably not a big cost savings for Tesla. But it certainly would show a...

MCU fails for the second time

FWIW, the SC tech told me earlier that the double forced firmware update “rebuilds corrupt databases”, and fixes MCU issues. Not sure if this could possibly mean that it rebuilds the corrupted /vars directory on the EMMC chip? I’ll post back if it does resurrect the MCU, they are trying that...

MCU fails for the second time

Yesterday my 2012 build S85 joined the black MCU club, at ~128,000 miles. Car will drive after a long “Systems Powering Up” display message, but without the MCU there is no air suspension, navigation, homelink, entertainment, HVAC, or controls. Service Center is quoting 2400 to replace, but...

    Louvers not opening during supercharging

AmpedRealtor, were you charged for this, was it under warranty, or was it goodwilled? PM me if you prefer. I am being given a quote of over $600 to replace the throat louvers, including oddly related elements such as two wiring harnesses, the horn, and the key fob antenna. And I am being...

    Louvers not opening during supercharging

Yes that is precisely how I interpreted the schematic. Which leads me to believe that they are integral to the red circle. But without fans, I am at a loss to explain how/why they could impact stationary supercharging.
  36. JakeP

    Louvers not opening during supercharging

Precisely Buster1, the issue that I have and that AmpedRealtor and the OP had may not apply to facelift cars, or even more recent pre-facelift cars.

    Louvers not opening during supercharging

What year is your car, and/or what year do these schematics apply to? I am being shown pictures of broken louvers on my car in the front center, not to be confused with the lower front side louvers. I am now wondering if the “Louver retrofit” discussed above (by owners of early VIN cars like...

    Louvers not opening during supercharging

Buster1, thanks for that link, those are cool diagrams. But why do you say the louvers don’t appear to tie in? Aren’t the front/center louvers tied directly to the red line? And the side louvers tied to the blue line?
  40. JakeP

    Louvers not opening during supercharging

And if your louvers cannot open, you are going to see supercharging speeds throttled, even at low SOC at normal temps with priority position.

    Louvers not opening during supercharging

During a bumper repair on my 2012 S85 we discovered my louver flaps were broken, and no longer functional. Were the Louver Retrofits done out of warranty as Goodwill, or were you asked to pay?

    Supercharger - Ithaca, NY

There's a Coming Soon at Salamanca, which is right where the Seneca Allegany casino happens to be. I wouldn't doubt we will see one there before long. I was told 2018 by someone at one point. Has anyone done any scouting around Ithaca? I am trekking up there later this Summer from...

Rusting of the rear lift gate attachment points

Trayloader, mine look like yours, 2012 S85 from Western PA. Tesla wouldn't replace them when I was under warranty, and now they will sell me the ball joints for $1 each, but I need to buy the full strut to get the clips! Do you mind sharing a link or part number, if you found standalone clips...

Supercharger hole - Olean, Ellicottville, or Salamanca?

I would think the Seneca Allegany Resort and Casino in Salamanca would be the perfect spot, right off I-86. Barring that, I vote for the parking lot of Beef n Barrel in Allegany, for some good "beef on weck" as you charge!

No More Model X Holiday Easter Egg

Yes it worked three times for me yesterday, won't work at all today. Jan 15 must have been the sunset date for this Easter Egg, as well as lifetime free Supercharging. Bummer on both counts. And surprising, as both of those features helped sell quite a few cars.

Now that Erie, PA is online, it's time we start looking for the Rochester site, which is on the map for 2016. Does anyone have any good intel on this site? I recall some possibilities being discussed months ago, but haven't seen anything here or on Supercharge.info recently. In addition to...
