21" Turbine Wheel Exploded, Model S 85D

There is no earthly scenario where any casting or fatigue flaw in an alloy wheel results in that sort of damage from ~50 psi of pressure.

That’s an impact. No question.

Yes, you've got a point there: ~50 psi is really low pressure when it comes to an alloy wheel . . . . But I'm gob-smacked that the tire would show no damage from such an impact. Perhaps there's more evidence of such inside the tire?

I definitely had this happen to me on a different car, hitting a deep pothole at freeway speed at just the right (wrong) angle. I felt and heard the impact pretty strongly, and had to change to the spare.

The tire showed no outward signs of damage but would hold no air. At the tire shop they removed the tire and showed me the hole. I believe they put the same tire on the new rim, since ithe tire was only a few months old.

This was a 65-70 aspect ratio tire, so it had to deflect even more than yours did to puncture the rim.
