Auto Lock & Key Fob

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping someone can help me with an issue I'm having with my new key fob for my 2023 Tesla Model S. I've always used my phone as my key and have it set to autolock when I walk away. I prefer to keep my keys in the car, but since getting the key fob, the car won't autolock if I leave the keys inside.

I understand this is a safety feature to prevent locking the keys in the car, but does anyone know a workaround to leave the keys in the car and still have autolock work? Is there any special iPhone shortcut or something that can be done with the official Tesla or Tessie app?

No, the walkway lock happens when all keys are no longer detected.

And even if you do lock your key fob in the car with the app, anyone will still be able to open your door if the fob is inside.

I could be wrong but I thought if you left any kind of key in the car, the door handles will retract when you walk away so maybe you think it locked, but anyone could just touch the handle to open the door and drive off. I think it only locks when you take all keys with you (like E90alex said)

Disable Bluetooth or shut phone off. Just make sure you have an alternate card key to get back in.

How would that help? He wants to take the phone with him and lock the key fob in the car.

Opps sorry you are correct. Seen iPhone and thought they wanted to leave that in the car. Figured like most the 23 has a card or phone option. Best case would be to loose the fob and be done. Hate carrying unneeded items personally.
