Tesla = technology shift
We know the headaches this is causing for the existing manufacturers, exacerbated by the emission scandal. All are now actively involved in developing some form of EV platform. In the US, this will add to the concerns of dealers (which few share).

Tesla = click bait
Tesla marketing, rightly or wrongly takes place mostly in the bear pit of the Internet, attracting a disproportion of fanbois/haters/trolls etc. On the positive side, Tesla have become more widely known in a much shorter time span. On the negative side, it is much harder for people to find the advice they need. There is still a lot of misinformation around. Even sites such as this need constant work to keep up with what's happening and we don't always succeed in creating the most informative threads. ;-) Decent signal to noise is hard to maintain. (word of thanks to our moderators)

Tesla = compulsory upgrades.
Probably the single message that fails to get through to potential/new customers is that owners are not immune from disruption. None of the previous cars you have owned changed much, and if they did it would have involved much planning, time, $$$ and involvement on your part. With Over The Air updates, Tesla can change the behaviour of your car overnight. Features may appear and disappear. Your driving experience can change from one month to the next. Unlike your experience/familiarity with smartphone or computer OSs, Tesla upgrades can only be delayed. They are not customizable. You cannot restore a previously loved version. You cannot skip over one you do not like the sound of.

This is how it is, at least while Tesla exists in its present form and/or Elon is driving.

Disruption is the new norm.
