I was trying to figure out how to tell if a car is a 2.0 a 2.25 or a 2.5 from the vin.
Thanks in advance
I think the 2.5's start at #1001. I have one of the first 2.5s, ordered before they were announced, and my vin is #1026.
...introduced our first vehicle, the Tesla Roadster, in early 2008. In July 2009, we introduced a new Roadster model, the Tesla Roadster 2, and its higher performance option package Roadster Sport, as well as launched the Tesla Roadster in Europe. On July 1, 2010, we introduced the Roadster 2.5, with new styling and an upgraded interior. ...
...VIN: 0848 - Roadster Sport 2.25...
I think 2.5 was announced around July 2010 and VINs were past 900.
At the January, 2010 Detroit auto show they exhibited "VIN #1000" which has a 2.0 front end:
Tesla Roadster No. 1,000 Hits Detroit Auto Show, Will Be Sold for Charity
I wonder though if they did some unusual VIN allocation to get VIN#1000 on car #1000? That car might be the highest VIN #'ed 2.0, and it may have been assigned a VIN that was about 6 months ahead of schedule....DETROIT — A Millennial White Tesla Roadster Sport bearing VIN no. 1,000 is on display at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show...
Doug_G said his VIN#919, delivered well after #1000, is a "late 2.0". He also said "the day my car arrived they announced the 2.5".
So the 2.5 transition seemed to happen in the high 900s and/or low 1000s. Does anyone have a NorthAmerican 2.5 with VIN 09XX ?
That is certainly true, but can you even tell a 2.5 from a 2.0 by VIN? I see a huge gap between 5YJRE1A34A1000848 and 5YJRE1A12A1001060, so I don't have any information on when the 2.5 model started for certain. I suppose it mainly depends upon when Tesla Motors changed the parts on the assembly line - would they wait for a particular VIN before switching or just execute the change as soon as they made the decision? You can't tell the 2.25's from 2.0's using the VIN. A 2.25 is, as I understand it, a 2.0 that has been upgraded with 2.5 front and rear body panels.
...Roadster (#1014) - *my* Roadster - arrived. Turns out it was one of the first 2.5’s off the assembly line. I’d ordered a 2.0, and they announced the 2.5’s a couple of weeks later. Much to my amazement, in response to my inquiry on supposed improvements in the power management system in the 2.5 (improving performance in “high temperature operating environments”), my Service Rep informed me that my order was being "upgraded"!...
It looks like a 2.0 sport to me. The transition from 2.0 to 2.5 started around VIN #964My #861 is a 2.5 Sport.
