I got my Model 3 invite, so I am trying to decide whether to get a 3 now or wait. Part of that decision is dependent on what I can get for my S.

Basic specs:
  • Mid-December 2012 build date
  • 85kWh
  • Pano roof
  • Smart Air
  • No Tech Package
  • Huper Optik tint
  • 81k miles
  • CPO warranty to 101,xxx miles or May 2020
  • Pearl White
  • Textile seats
  • No accidents
  • Drive Unit replaced at 62,xxx under warranty
  • Touchscreen replaced in April 2017 under warranty (bubbles)
  • Has had Takata recall performed
  • New tires late last year. Don't have the paperwork in front of me.
Overall, the car is in good shape, especially considering the mileage. No damage, and I keep the inside clean. There is a faint stain on the headliner and another one on the driver seat from the original owner. Also, the back center seat has indentations from my son's car seat, which I honestly don't know if they will ever come out completely.

I bought this car in May 2016 from Tesla as a CPO with 51k and change miles. At the time there was only one level of CPO warranty, so it is covered until 101,xxx miles or May 2020. As of this second it has 80,713 miles. The CPO warranty is transferable so long as the purchaser is a private party, and not a dealer.

A couple of not so recent pics are attached. Obviously if anyone is interested up-to-date pics will be provided.

If you are interested, PM me and we can talk price and time table.

So to answer a few questions I have been asked:

Right now my asking price is $40,000. After doing a little bit of searching I feel that's a pretty good price for an 85 with 20,000 miles or 2.5 years of CPO warranty left. I'm somewhat negotiable.

The CPO warranty is slightly different than the extended service plan that original owners could purchase to supplement the original factory warranty. For one, there is no deductible for CPO warranty visits. I have been in a few times for little things and have never been charged. The Dallas service center has even addressed a couple of squeaks/rattles for me with no complaints. (Edit: Here's a good thread on it: Is There a difference between a CPO extended Warranty and an ESA?).

I have not charged to 100% in quite a long time. I set it to do so this morning, but I didn't quite leave enough time before I had to head to work. So it showed 100% on the dash but it was still taking power at 8 amps, as you can see in the photo. It showed 232 miles of rated range. I'll do a full range charge this weekend and post an updated rated range.

From my understanding, the original tech package included:
  • Power lift gate
  • Auto-present door handles
  • Turn-by-turn nav
  • Homelink
  • Seat heaters
Edit 2: Here's a link with what the 2012 tech package included (scroll just a tiny bit down): Model S - Options by Year - Tesla Motors Club Wiki. Interestingly, my car does have the backup camera sight lines. I also have had loaners with the Xenon lights and honestly cannot tell a difference, but my car supposedly does not have them.

To open the doors you just push on the handles with the fob in your pocket, then they pop out. You can also use the fob; two clicks pops out the handles. You can still look up destinations in the map, but it won't navigate there for you. The map shows charging locations and the status of superchargers just like a car with the tech package.

Smart Air works the exact same as in a tech package car. You can set it to raise by location and set it to lower based on a certain speed.

I've included some interior shots I took this morning (without cleaning). Believe it or not, I have not spilled anything in the car since I've owned it, since I discourage eating and drinking in it. I am happy to get the seats cleaned for anyone who is serious about making an offer. I'll post exterior shots once I've had a chance to wash the car. It is still dirty from the cruddy weather we had earlier in the week.

Alright a bunch of pics are attached and even more in this imgur album: Tesla

There are no major cosmetic flaws. No dents or scratches. It has a few nicks in the hood you'd expect from an 80k-mile car. And some point before I owned it the car also got a scrape on the frunk hood near the headlight. It was filled by Tesla during the CPO reconditioning process. There's a photo of that in the imgur album. Wheels are curb rash free.

Pics of anything are available on request.

Bump to update the price to $36,500 firm. KBB private party sale is $37,846 in "very good" condition, which does not account for the comprehensive CPO warranty. Carvana will give me a couple dollars under $33,000.

I'm going to let this simmer about another week. If not sold I'll keep the car until the warranty is done or until my Model 3 arrives. Thanks for looking!
