This line of commentary by someone who seems to have knowledge of production methods was quite interesting.

OVERALL DESIGN AND MANUFACTURABILITY:
"Piece of cake" as my old-timer colleagues would say, envious of the robotics and the sheer simplicity of the concept. Take the one-piece structural aluminium side-panel, for instance, and compare it to the complex array of fitted parts on other cars. Look at the laser guidance of the glass roof fit and adhesion. Basically look at the number of parts and connections that I estimate to be less than a third of what is found on a ICE or Hybrid. Just could the huge number of gaskets and O-rings that are practically absent in an all-electric. Manufacturing errors mostly occur at junctions and connectors, especially on cars made in America on Mondays, according to some! This concept has so much less of these problematic interfaces. Sure aluminium welding requires costlier equipment but the lighter weight of the parts handled makes that investment last longer. And to answer your question, yes they use templates, notches and guides and much more to ascertain the fit of parts.
