Once you Submit that, THEN the insurance tab will appear under "Next Steps". To the right of Next Steps will be the Completed Steps you already posted (4 green checks). At this point, you need to enter your CURRENT insurance...the policy that your car WILL be under.

Wow....When things move, they move real fast at Tesla I guess. I saw my VIN just yesterday morning (may have been added a day before, I didn't check). Scheduled delivery here in Raleigh, NC on 12/7. But I just called up the local delivery center to find out if they have same information. Lo and behold, front desk person tracked down the vehicle to Charlotte. So it has reached a place that's just 3 hours away. And now I've been told delivery may happen earlier than scheduled and I'm not complaining.

Congrats!!! Hope i happens sooner rather than later. Been waiting for a while. 5 weeks almost now. Hoping my car comes in soon!

On the manage account page, there will be an overview. Make sure you fill out all that you can. Registration Details, Trade-In (if you have one), Payment, Driver's License (Scan and upload). You cannot get to the insurance until you get all the other stuff filled out and have all 4 with green checks. Once you Submit that, THEN the insurance tab will appear under "Next Steps". Thanks for clarifying this. I wish my Delivery Specialist would have been more clear. His introductory email asked me to be sure to have my insurance ready so that they could issue temporary tags to the car for Delivery. But I can't get the car added to my policy without a VIN... I was thinking my lack of insurance information was possibly holding up the VIN... like a chicken or the egg situation.

Ordered online October 11 for delivery to Denver, CO
Black with white interior, LR, AWD, FSD, 19in

Found vin in source code this morning. Yay! Hours later received text from advisor giving me the vin and instructing me to upload insurance. No indication of a set delivery date yet except from my orientation email from 11/21 which says "expecting delivery of your vehicle to be within the last 2 weeks of December."

Not sure if you heard this or not, make sure EVERYTHING is submitted. I entered my insurance information and it didn't "take". My SA had to clear it out and i had to re-enter it. Tesla needs insurance information for your current insurance...basically what insurance you will use or have currently in force. Do everything you can so you can get a VIN.

Hi,

First time posting here. Is it a must to have insurance for the vehicle VIN to be generated. I ordered mine on 10/30. M3 LR AWD RED Black Aero Wheels no FSD.

Thanks,
Chan

I'm not sure. My SA said 2 different things at different times. At first, he said wait until we get a VIN, apply the VIN to your policy (which is weird because I dont posssess the car yet?!?!?) and upload that to the website. I called today and he said just upload your current policy.
On the website under Manage, it does say this: "Proof of insurance is required to take delivery." Further, the link under insurance says this: "Proof of insurance is required to take delivery, and must be valid for the next 60-90 days. If you're registering in these 12 states, insurance can be provided for an existing car. In all other states, insurance must be provided for the Model 3."

I'm in NC, which is not one of the 12 states where you just need any policy. State Farm says I need a VIN to insure the car. Tesla says I can't take delivery unless I have insurance. But I need a VIN from Tesla for insurance...mind spinning at this point.

It depends on state law as I recall my SA that they don't even look at it for CO but depending on where you are it might be different. The VIN allocation is not dependent on your insurance status since you can't have insurance without a VIN, however you can't take delivery of your car until your car is on a policy if your state requires it. Some states like Colorado allow 30 days for the car to be added to the policy.

This just made my day! I ordered on 10/14. Congratulations!~

I uploaded the insurance info for my current car & got my VIN in source code the next day. I have since replaced it with an insurance card for the Model 3. Also, I never heard from anyone regarding a delivery date but discovered it on my account page online a couple days ago. For those waiting for delivery, you might want to check your page online since they may just assign a time for your delivery there.
