This may be a stupid question, but I thought Tesla numbered their model years by the year the vehicle was actually manufactured in?
Same here. I ordered 10/28 in Glendale, CA store. Financing and insurance both completed on 10/30. No VIN. Actually, no Tesla communication at all other than the text I initiated last week with my SA to confirm that there wasn't something wrong with my order or account.
I did go to the Tesla store on Sunday when I was shopping at the mall (Americana at Brand). My SA wasn't there, so I was chatting with another SA. I simply mentioned that with the holidays coming I was getting nervous that I might not be able to make the tight delivery windows I have been seeing people post on this forum. His response to me was so odd: "Yeah, that's how Elon does it." I took it as a flippant comment, when I was really concerned about my delivery. Oh well, I just moved on and will wait my turn like everyone else.

Take it for what it’s worth. I ordered AWD White w/ black interior,Aero wheels on Oct.12 from Costa Mesa, Ca. Got a callback from a Tesla “delivery specialist” today after inquiring on when to expect a VIN. She responded that since I ordered early in the quarter, I should get my car before the end of this month. - Does this mean some later orders might be out of luck for delivery this year?
I've ordered the same configuration (w/ FSD) on the same day but thru Palm Desert DC. VIN just showed up today in source so i'd check yours too. No contact yet from Tesla, but I'd expect either today or tomorrow to hear something. Last email said VIN on 12/19 and delivery after Christmas, but seems that I'm a week ahead of that estimate

Finally VIN appeared in my source code just now. I would suggest to check again on your end. On cloud 9
For those lacking information on their cars, try calling your local dealer. I have been going through University Village Tesla and they have been so incredibly kind and helpful. Its like a breath of fresh air after having to deal with BMW and my i3 lease return.
So I ordered on 12/2 LR white/white FSD and when I called today they went into detail on my account and made a few changes and pushed my order contract out so I can finalize my loan paperwork. He also told me my vin (I already knew from the source code) and said that the car is most likely in transit. He seemed to think that most deliveries in the Seattle area that were made before 12/8 would be delivered this year. I will note however, that I have also spoken with Bellevue Tesla and the woman there seemed less sure about deliveries being completed by EOY.

This kind of backs up what I've heard in the Seattle area, that University Village is superior to Bellevue as far as delivery experience & customer service.
General update...asked online support if there was any way to generally track my order it the chain without the VIN. They had a delivery specialist text me and told me that they're "currently waiting for my vehicle to complete production".

How/where did you get information on final payment and a delivery date after ordering so soon?
So paying before seeing/inspecting the car... Is that required? I thought the SOP was to pay after inspecting...
I went in and they asked me what color I wanted. I said Red, then they said that Chicago (about 3 hours northwest of me) had 6 red ones sitting on a train. I then picked out the one I wanted and reserved it. I got super lucky as my daily driver died the week before and I was borrowing my kid's car.
I'll probably bring a check with and then inspect/pay. I don't trust anybody. I'm learning more about this process.
