No, the Google maps are several years out of date here. My home, which we've been in for two years, is mapped as bushland! God knows why Tesla don't use specialist mapping companies like other GPS users.
Drive somewhere with no cellular coverage, no map will load on the main screen until you get connectivity again. Just because it's out of date doesn't mean it's not coming from the cloud. Some of the map is cached on emmc, but not much.

>>I didn’t say Tesla uses google maps tiles. Only that it streams the display maps from some server. Try scrolling in an underground parking with no cellular and no WiFi, you shouldn’t have maps. Unless this changed at some update, I’m sure it was the case at some point.<<

OK - I see where you're from. I assumed that the maps were kept in the car's memory and updated when an update became available.
It's still frustrating to have mapping years out of date, though!

That certainly explains why the "satellite" display blocked (first time it's happened).

The nav mapping is certainly all at sea here though - the Google maps that I see online are not the same as the ones in the car display, which are outdated and the nav instructs me to drive into blind alleys and across gardens even though the route shows the way! Once I get out of my development it's all OK but one does wonder.....
