I have over the past couple of weeks been getting the BMS_a174 errors raised after the car stops charging (interrupted) when connected to a Gen1 wall charger of about 7 years old. I have found that it seems to continue to allow charging if I reduce the rate from 40A to 35A. Charging at superchargers has so far been uneventful. I asked Tesla to look at the car logs the first time this occurred, and they felt it was the wall charger and not the car. Several events like this later, I am not so sure. I recently learned how to enter the Service mode and have a better view of ALL errors raised. None more threatening regarding the battery/charge issue (same error at each failed charge event), but some errors regarding the front power management and it missing from the CAN bus; MIA reading, and ignored until next car restart. All of this has me a bit concerned. I have an appointment with service on Friday, so I guess I will find out just how serious this is at that visit. Anyone else have the BMS_a174 that were found to be related only to the wall charger and nothing to do with the car?

Do you have solar or a whole home battery. I had similar error if I tried to charge my Model 3 during the day but had no problem charging at midnight. My solar inverter is clicking away, not providing solar, and will be replaced in a few weeks. I think the inverter might be causing the charging problem.

Hi. I have been getting the error while charging at home, With interruptions, but it still charges, only at lower speed. I got solar panels, you think that might be the cause? Getting the error code Chg_f081 "unable to charge". No problem with the supercharger. Tesla said that, according to remote test, the on-board charger has to be replaced for $2200!? Plus labor, all 3k. Got an appt for the 9th...

If you're looking to save a little money, perhaps you can contact a few 3rd party folks who do work on Teslas. QC Charge in Vista, CA and EV Fixme in Costa Mesa, Ca might provide the service.

Thx. Oh, and I forgot to mention, I got solar panels with Tesla, maybe trying to charge during the day while using solar might cause that? I will test it and see...

I take it u r plugged into a 14.50 outlet with 50 amp breaker??? Sounds like the cable is getting hot. It might be hard to borrow a cable, I have 3, just in case. I carry new one and bag of adapters just in case I'm not home. I hope inverter isn't bad, it's expensive.

14.50? Idk. Got a Tesla home charger. Tried a similar charger at a hotel and I get the same error, so it must be the on-board charger....
