Software Issues: Chips vs. Microcontrollers

Reading this forum and others, I've noticed a significant uptake in software related issues (particular the refreshed Model S). I've done a bit of rudimentary research and it seems that Tesla has moved to microcontrollers due to the micro chip shortage. Perhaps the problems are due to lack of familiarity with programming microchips. This is pure speculation' on my part, without any real evidence.

I do know that there is a learning curve when moving to microcontroller programming (been there).
