For those interested , this looks to be the procedure (removal of the HV battery is required). I guess that explains the 700$ ish price (not counting the 300$ towing) - 2h job, 1h diag. , 100$ part
For me, at least in my model Y they did not remove the HV battery. They did remove the rear seats to access the “penthouse” section of the battery to work on it but did not remove the battery itself. Luckily mine was under warranty, and luckily I was able to L2 charge and bring it in so I did not have to pay for towing.

Are you sure they need t remove the battery?

I look at my service record and since its under warranty there’s no $ about but the service they did for me was “Correction: Contactor - Fast Charge - HV Battery (Remove & Replace) - Remove and Replace”. When I talked to the tech they said that this did not mean they removed and replaced the HV battery only the “fast charge components” on the penthouse of the HV battery.

Here’s what the Service Manual says about the job…

I think you’re right, the instructions don’t mention battery removal. I’m hoping they consider the contactors an integral part of the HV battery and under powertrain warranty.

Just had the same problem. model y, less than a year old, did not charge at super charger. Done it on few occasions last two months and it had worked.
Called Tesla and went through the same process ie
- tried several charging stands
- did all recommended reboots,
- tried different (non Tesla) fast charge
- cleaned charging port
- tried again
Nothing worked
Tesla advised to find a slow charger. Tried
And it worked. Takes too much time, still waiting … am 125 miles from home.
Been advised to fix service appointment. Made request, no appointment for next 10 days. Not exactly amused

Sorry this happened to you. Glad you have L2 at least (as opposed to a 500$ tow).
Feels like this should be part of power train warranty . You’re still on bumper to bumper so you should be able to avoid that 700$ repair cost.

After slow charging close to 180 min at Moto Leigh Delamere, commenced my journey to,Bath. Then Parked the car for about 4 hours at Southgate Bath Spa. Had enough charge to get me home. On the way, took a break at Fleet services ….. tried charging at the super charger …… this time it worked. Don’t know what was wrong …. Will still continue with the service call.

I had a similar problem a few months ago. Wouldn’t charge at SC, rebooted, tried all spaces, etc. Contacted Tesla service who only suggested long tow in the opposite direction to home. Retried charging and then it worked.

Problem has not repeated.
