Warning Light [error message " rear motor disengaged"]

I got a warning that said rear motor disengaged, what would cause this?

I got a similar alert (might have been front motor) when I plugged in an aftermarket OBD adapter to the harness located at the back of the center console (by where the passenger's feet are). I removed the aftermarket adapter and everything went back to normal.
