For the winter, you want to go smaller in width (or the same). The idea is the narrower the tire, the more you can carve through the snow vs. plowing it out of the way of a wide tread.
Just be aware that you need to keep the appropriate XL load rating, tires fit only certain width rims, and the dimensions of the new tires need to be within 1-3% of the stock tire. If not, bad things can happen.
From what I’ve been reading, xice is the way to go and pretty much hands down over cross climate. CC is more for all season i though too. Not true winter tires.
