The app must be running in the background on your phone at all times. The service rep here also claimed that you should turn on full time location tracking in the app, but I'm not convinced this is necessary, and would be concerned about unnecessary battery usage.

Of course it's the car waking up -- that's exactly what I was saying. But it's not "a bit", it's like 30 seconds, which makes no sense. Does your iPhone/iPad/Mac take 30 seconds to wake up? My MS took maybe 3-4. And it doesn't matter how close you are -- the car could be in another state...

You are 100% correct -- It buys you nothing to keep overwriting the one hour, rather than waiting 'til it's almost full. But it's even worse than that, as what I'm seeing in my brand new M3 with latest s/w is that it doesn't even leave the last hour of video in place -- it erases it while...

In theory, you just tap the dashcam icon, which brings up a menu with a 'Save' item -- I'm just not sure what exactly it saves.

I have found this "last hour" business to be very inconsistent. But there is one thing about it that is quite repeatable, and, IMHO, just plain wrong: the last hour's worth of driving footage gradually goes away when the car is parked. Note that I have sentry turned OFF, so it's not like...
