4680 batteries, what is the advantage?

I'd be hesitant to purchase one of the first few thousand cars equipped with 4680 cells. Seems pretty challenging to perfect the manufacturing process. I hope the ramp-up is gradual. Meanwhile, I still don't see what the benefit(s) to the customer will be.

Model 3 SR+ LFP Battery Range, Degradation, etc Discussion

Good stuff. I'm an engineer, so I understand the conundrum of making a calculation where there are so many variables, but you have to start somewhere with the assumptions. Obviously both chemistries have their pro's and con's, but for a SR application, the LPF may be preferable. And if I were...

Thank you, that is a good video and I learned a great deal.

Model 3 SR+ LFP Battery Range, Degradation, etc Discussion

Newbie here and not engaged in the current discussion. My question is related to this thread though and is very basic. LFP battery will degrade slower than NCA. Thus in say, five years, the LFP equipped car could have greater range than the NCA and the gap will become greater the longer you...

Model Y Delivery Estimates Pushed to 2022

Mine is due Feb~Mar but I may not take delivery. I really want a RWD with LFP battery.

Could parking lots covered in solar panels work?

FWIW, the San Diego Zoo has a cluster of about 6 Level 2 chargers powered by an overhead solar array and batteries for energy storage.

Model Y lead times and a RWD SR+ offering

Decisions, decisions. Now that Audi is taking orders for the Q4 in the U.S. I can compare it with the Model Y. The Audi has a nice range of trim packages and driveline options to customize your car, plus the $7,500 federal tax credit. After taxes, delivery and incentives, they range from...

Suspension upgrade recommendation for 2021 MY LR AWD comfortable ride

Tesla engineers must cringe with all the talk about their work being trashed by owners who think their cars ride too much toward the performance end of the spectrum. Hard to please everyone with just one option.

Model Y road noise/rumble primary cause

As I get ready to replace my 10 year old Leaf, my first choice is the Audi Q4-e-tron, but if that does not meet my needs, I am still considering a MY. As an engineer, structural rigidity is a big deal to me. I plan to compare the Q4 to the MY is this respect as best I can by the seat-of-my...

2021 Model Y lots of road noise rumble on stock 19's - any advice for improvement?

There are no silver bullets when it comes to reducing noise levels in cars. Luxury makers can use up to 500 lbs. of sound deadening materials. Think what that would do to an EV's range. Lead is the best material because it is really dense, but obviously impractical due to the weight. Tesla's...

Model Y Perf or BMW X3M?

I've been suffering, er, driving a Leaf every day for almost 10 years and it is time for a replacement. After all that time, the last thing I would consider as a replacement is an EV that is based on an ICE platform like the BMW i4 and iX3.. I want an EV that fully leverages the packaging...

Did you select your model 3 based on 70% battery life?

I don't have a Model 3 yet, I need to sell my Boxster first. But, don't laugh, I've been driving a Leaf for exactly 9 years tomorrow. And at the time I bought it, the EV world was different, but I calculated if I could still do my usual driving on a 70% battery after 10 years and NO charging...

Is the Model 3 on death row because of the Model Y?

Women place huge emphasis in feeling safe and sitting higher with a better outward view provides some of that feeling for them. However, SUV's have a higher center of gravity and to compensate require stiffer suspensions to compensate which deteriorates the ride. They are more prone to tipping...

Model Y 47K not available to order online

I haven't been paying attention lately but read a side note in an unrelated article about Tesla delivering the LR RWD soon. I went to the Tesla site and checked on my order and it prompted me to "get ready for delivery". I was also able to edit my order. Last time I checked, I was frozen out...

How's the ride of the Y?

I'm interested in this issue as well. Generally cars with a higher center of gravity require stiffer suspensions to compensate for the negative physics.
