the killa watt shows volatage / frequency at outlet .(among other things) . u just plug it into any outlet .. thinking is u can go off grid see readings go back and see if gateway or some other component maybe is doing something like changing frequency (away from 60hz) unnecessarily or...
it uses a lot less than i anticipated .. i can look exact numbers on water heater app but from memory uses about 2.5 kWh per day in summer and about 2.8 kWh per day in winter... uses MUCH less energy than a straight electric water heater .. unless u have it set totally wrong ... mine almost...
its a rheem "performance platinum" goes on sale home depot at least few times a year despite the model name i think its most basic in their line ...
you may be fine with a 65 gallon or less depending on household size since it can be programmed to prepare for peak times uaing temp / mode (high...
Upfront may seem so but in long term was not (or should not be for me after 10 years use …. I paid all in tax / delivery $1700 for a 65gal Rheem …
Received $300 fed rebate on taxes then I save or will save $12 / month in ng by getting rid of ng heater ( and that is prior to last winter ng price...
Yes I have power walls … but you could also program heatpump water heater to heat up water to say 140-150F from 9am - 4pm when making solar then would use that hot water throughout rest of day / night without water heater needing to run until 9am then just repeat
I don’t know a whole lot about the ones used by climbers but I suspect they would quickly runout at the flowrate used to treat moderate CO poisonings …. If they are even capable of that rate and the proper mask is available. As for severe cases or those with preexisting conditions pure O2 in a...
I have access to cheap (for now at least) ng but replacing my ng water heater with a heat pump hybrid water heater is one of the most satisfying purchases I’ve made…. I love the “ free ‘ hot water with my solar .. and the controllability / adaptability of the water heater is awesome
Orrrrr … homeowners could step into this decade of water heater tech and get a heat pump / hybrid water heater … uses about 300-400w running in heat pump mode … can even be set to not run at all during certain hours say peak time 🤓🤯
there are a lot of people that work really hard / take pride in their work but just happen to or are stuck working for a rotten company at the corp level
unfortunately in my experience many people are much more reactive than proactive when it comes to SO many things in their life .. job security for many of us but its often discouraging to see
im on sce but never offered to opt in to vpp etc ... but 4-9 daily our system uses only batt power and sends all avail solar to grid so feel we are doing all we can until invited to join VPP ... if ever
thanks for all the help everyone 🙌🏼
when 4pm peak time hit power wall no longer went crazy dumping all it's power into the grid ( like @holeydonut in front of PG&E headquarters with a stolen dump truck of fresh manure )
will be intersting to watch behavior thru the peak time as ac cycles on...
I recall somewhere way earlier in this thread or another on my search you or others may have mentioned tweaking export vs import price with export everything but I glossed over it of course 🤦🏻♂️
i think @cwied and also @swedge nailed my issue .. i had buy and sell set same which in export only solar made no diff .. i set sell price 0.04 lower and i'll try again during today's peak and see what system does
🙌🏼
so based on what others and you have seen after my system "learns" i should see it arrive at my reserve setting closer to 9pm instead of 2 hours into peak ?
my tou summer is simple now only two rates peak 4pm- 9pm all other times off peak
i think i was more annoyed with system exporting down to...
yea i was thinking my system was just going to continue dumping a bunch of energy at full tilt into grid at start of peak (if thats what you meant by front loading) and the only learning would be throttling back and keeping enough to more or less arrive at end of peak at my reserve . if that...
Thanks for the reply … I may be with you on not liking export everything and stick with export solar only … even on the highest use ac days on export solar only I still have at least 50% left at end of peak .. sitting at 20% from 6pm to 9pm on export everything during often the biggest grid...
can anyone report / give updates on the behavior of their system when set to export everything and time based ? have they "learned"
searched forum and keep landing on this thread
I was on export solar only .. just noticed option to export everything tried it yesterday and right at 4pm (i have...
you can def heavily manage a single pw as you said ... but if you want a 2nd i would HiGHLY recommend you get it at same time if at all financially possible ... always read ppl on here regreting not getting enough pw's due to cost or avail of adding them later ....never read anyone say i bought...
For over a year when I had level set to 60% to charge at 2am would almost always be 62% when I went to drive off around 8am .. I did happen to wake up by chance at around 3 or 4am a few times and app indicated charge completed at 60% …
strangly now that I have had car set to 50% for last few...
Got it .. i may have taken it different way ...i have sce and have never had pg&e but based just on these boards i have developed a mild hatred of them 😝
hi my name is Jason 👋🏼 ... now you know me 🤓
My record for continuous off grid (pre PTO) was i believe 45 days or so ...
the caveats are I cannot just charge my model 3 anytime I want (when solar producing only ) and in summer on 100+ days house may get up to 78 F when i cannot run AC anymore at...
only got 4 min into video but i believe like most social media the title is misleading / clickbait ... at least he put a "?" mark in title
sounds like he learned after fact about the solar system rating vs the annual est production .. and about oversizing for inverter .. all of these topics have...
the technical rational i do not recall .. it has been a while since i read thru any of the charging threads i just recall after spending way too much time the "keep it above 20% and below 90%" seemed best supported and practical
sorry perhaps someone can chime in has the thread(s) or answer...
for the batt in 2019 model 3 yes it has been discussed / shown ad nauseam that extended time at low state of charge or very high state of charge may be detrimental to longevity of battery ( to what extent .. that seems debatable) .. newer battery being used in some model 3 / Y i do not know
in OP case they would be at home so only need to be able to open charge port to connect car upon return but still ideally you would not want your battery to sit below 20% for long if thats what you mean by over 0%
in my case i had to get from airport to at min a supercharger a few miles away ...
i left mine w/ sentry on cabin over heat off at 90% returned about 16 days later to if i recall the low 60% .. i avoided checking on car w/ app very often as well but w/ sentry on it was prob not sleeping anyway
in the senario the car is not plugged in at 90% charge and even w/ sentry / cabin overheat off it would not remain at 90% for long (main battery connecting to charge 12v etc during those 2 weeks
if you live in an area with freq strikes .. guessing you do .. and there is good chance of strike close enough to make it into your panel then i would charge it to ~90% and then unplug it .. long as cabin overheat w/ ac not used / sentry mode etc charge would be fine (based on my own model 3...
yea i agree i like coffee but feel like an idiot paying $4.50 for a plain coffee .. so to me one coffee house coffee a week is a waste of money (yes i know people drop a lot more than that on a single starbucks drink .. thats just what I order when i get dragged there 😝)
what is considered a "waste" of money is highly subjective ... i can say buy 10 starbucks drinks a day everyday and it would not affect my lifestyle / retirement etc ..(I actually only go to coffee houses few times a year just not my thing) but if someone wants to spend their earnings on that...
i have switched to prime from an older non tou and then to 4-9 with sce no mention of any panel specs .. prime does require you have a battery or a plug in car or one of many other qualifying items ... oops as i just noticed @jjrandorin listed in more detail .. .....although sce never asked me...
Agree …I’m chuckling right now thinking of all the petty things I have seen buyers and occasionally sellers dig their heels in over on relatively pricey home sales in CA 🤣
i think some ppl get into that “I have to win” mentality and lose all grasp of common sense
supposedly some areas do allow copper gas pipe but has to be marked as compatible for gas ( ive never actually seen such pipe) .. some of these state no solder joints or some i have been told allow pure silver solder only ... was told the odorizer added to ng corrodes soldered unions and...
agree some of the worries new codes w/ ess seem .. arbitrary or knee jerk .. thats why i thought inspector may freak out about a gas line running near the battery(s) .. no rational reason I could think of to be worried / heat required to damage black pipe ... you would have much bigger problems...
pic even makes gas pipe appear copper and possibly soldered at some joints .. if so this is a no and a further no no in most of CA unless things have changed recently in code .. but maybe pic is deceiving
I can’t tell 100% from pics but that looks to be ng tankless water heater and that pipe running underneath power walls I first assumed cold water supply to such … but from trying to zoom in appears to be the gas line into the tankless ?? Am I seeing this correctly?
Are SCE customers in CA eligible for this latest program or only PG&E ?
i dont see the option at all in my app (i assume it would be under settings > powerwall
