SpaceX's Rising Tide - Discussion of non-SpaceX launch companies

Oh, I didn't say they wouldn't be, just that it will be interesting to see if they will be. They seem to have their tech sorted reasonably well, and systems that are able to sustain a decent launch cadence, but they are also moving away from their current launcher to the Next Big Thing which...

    Trans-Canada Drive

That's okay, once the Jasper, Edson, Veg, and Lloyd Superchargers go in you'll have a good excuse to come back and take pictures of nothing but Alberta. Throw in a couple of Canmore pictures to up the beauty quotient (and leave out the Edmonton one altogether). Glad to see you enjoyed your...

Quality of recent delivery VIN 250xxx

I find the ride quality on my new Y to be better than the 2015 S I traded in for it. Same size tires as were on my S (19"), and my S was a coil suspension so it should be a decent comparison. The Y is much smoother over bumps and train tracks, yet still has some tautness to it in cornering -...

SpaceX's Rising Tide - Discussion of non-SpaceX launch companies

I prefer your headlines to the real ones. It will be interesting to see if either company survives the next 5 years as an actual viable business.

Speed Changing with TACC,FSD, or Basic Cruise Control?

Page 86 of the manual, tap the speed limit sign on the screen and the car will change to the new limit.

Tesla autopilot is too strict on rules

You can also move one of the scroll wheels to let it know you're there. I usually adjust the volume control rather than the speed control. Given how many people abuse the intent of Autopilot, I think the check-in interval is appropriate. The car is not as good a driver as you seem to think if...

    Edmonton Waiting List

I had a Model S for 6 winters here, never any problems. Best winter car I've owned, and I had 4 Subarus before I got the S. Dual motor AWD is great in the winter. Good tires are key, I used Nokian WRs but many go with a set of winter tires. Instant heat is great, passengers enjoy having all...

Tesla automatic braking when approaching stopped car at stop light/sign?

Right. Personally, I don't think FSD treats situations as well as an attentive human would. Just my opinion though.

Tesla automatic braking when approaching stopped car at stop light/sign?

Note the emergency braking won't necessarily prevent you from hitting the car in front, it just does its best to slow you down so the collision is not as severe. Do not wait for the car to stop on its' own or you will likely be disappointed.

Bonus marks for use of the word "splay".

    Hello from Northern California

Just take a few deep breaths. 1) Which acronyms? 2) Yes, your delivery date will jump all over the place. You'll need to be Zen about it, and trust that eventually your VIN will come. Sometimes it happens quickly, like it did for me, but there are plenty of people who have been waiting 4 or 5...

    Canada Waiting Room

Yeah, sorry. Hopefully yours comes soon. I don't know if the 7-seaters are taking longer than the 5s. On the plus side, maybe they will be including some cool new feature by the time yours comes. I'm sure it will be worth the wait either way.

    Canada Waiting Room

Yeah, I don't blame you - I'd be choked too. I do have 19" wheels, maybe that's the reason? I traded in my S and had all my paperwork done the day I ordered, maybe that helped smooth the process. Financing through Tesla (Scotia) as well.

    Canada Waiting Room

Interesting, I picked up my Y yesterday. There were a couple white Ys there awaiting pickup, plus one red, one MSM and one more that I can't recall the colour of. Strange that mine came in and yours hasn't, even though your order date was much earlier than mine. I know that Tesla used to...

    Tesla Owners in Alberta

Oh man, that sucks. I still can't believe they haven't issued a recall for this issue; I would log it with Transport Canada and maybe add your voice to the broken links thread. I hope they goodwill/warranty you for it.

Delivery times of Tesla Model-Y (June-July orders)

Correct. LR model, blue ext, black int, no FSD, no hitch, 19" wheels. For the first 3 weeks I had September EDDs, then it changed a couple of weeks ago to August and stayed there. I was skeptical and expected it to change back to EOQ delivery but to my surprise the August dates held. Hope...

Delivery times of Tesla Model-Y (June-July orders)

When I checked my account this morning, before I got my confirmation email, my EDD was Aug 4-Aug 10, just like it has been for the past 3 weeks. And lo and behold, later on August 4 I got a confirmation for delivery dates starting on Aug 10, so hopefully you'll have the same experience on Friday.

Delivery times of Tesla Model-Y (June-July orders)

Just got my delivery notification text this morning. July 9 order date, car is in transport, earliest pick-up date was Aug 10 but I can't make that day so it's scheduled for Aug 11. Just got my VIN this afternoon, it's a 241xxx. I'm happy for myself that it's only been a 1-month process, but...

Delivery times of Tesla Model-Y (June-July orders)

It happened automatically when I placed my reservation/order with Telsa specifying that I would be financing with Tesla; I had to fill in a few fields online and I got an approval email within like 5 minutes - it was very quick and easy to do. Take a look at your account page and see if they...

Delivery times of Tesla Model-Y (June-July orders)

I imagine the interest rate will depend on your credit rating, but I was approved for 2.4% over 60 months through Scotiabank with Tesla just a week or so ago on a long-range 5-seater Y. I'm not expecting delivery until the end-of-quarter push that always seems to happen, in my case that would...

SLS - On the Scent of Inevitable Capitulation

Not sure if this has been posted elsewhere: The whole SLS thing is a tragedy really, but it is an enormous beast and it's going to look impressive as can be when it flies, and were it not for what SpaceX has done/is doing I would be agog at this machine. I still am really, I just wish it...

That sucks, sorry to hear it. Make sure you file a NHTSA report, hopefully at some point they will be forced to recall these parts as they should have done voluntarily years ago.

How long does it take for a full charge using 110?

My 90D model S charges at about 1% per hour on a 15A 120V outlet. It is sloooooooow, but if you have the time to just let it sit and charge it's easily do-able. I've done it many, many times. To figure out the wattage, multiply the voltage times the amperage - 15 x 120 = 1800, which is 1.8...

Reusing Boosters: Launch, Land, and Re-Launch

Interesting, I hadn't realized they were skipping static fires. No info in the article about why they fired this one in particular, just random testing or due to some specific concern or measurement they're looking for? Related to how many times this booster has flown?

Added Thermal Imaging Camera To My 2015 85D

Nice job! I'd much rather have one of these than any of the video games or other gimmicks that Tesla seems so fond of; it's the one thing I've been truly jealous of Taycan owners for. I look forward to seeing more videos once you have some experience with it in nighttime highway situations to...

    Mid-Canada Superchargers

I can make it from Edmonton to Lloyd (Wainwright, but close enough) on just over 50%; I believe there's supposed to be one going into Vegreville but I would think only the shortest-range cars would need one between Edmonton and Lloyd. Unless you're towing.

Moving to Vancouver, thinking about winter tires, seeking comments on my plan

I run WRG4s year-round (G3s prior to this set). If it works in Edmonton, you'll be fine in Vancouver. And they're actually really good in the rain, which you're more likely to care about in Vancouver. They definitely are not performance summer tires though, if you like to drive fast. I don't...

Drove and then leased an Audi e-Tron

Congrats, glad you were able to find an EV that works for you. I think the lease idea is smart, my S was the first car I've ever leased but it seemed like things were changing quickly at the time I got it and I didn't want to be stuck with a lemon, or something that was obsolete before it was...

    VW ID4

I watched Doug DeMuro's review on the weekend, he said it does have 1-pedal driving. The top setting on the drive selector has D/B, turn it once for D and twice for B and when it's in B mode it's one-pedal driving. Their whole gear selector thing seems a little hard to get used to, but I'm...

Another front suspension control arm failure

That really sucks, sorry to hear and glad no one was injured. File a report with your national transportation authority, maybe the EU will require a recall which could spread to North America the way the recent Chinese one did. Tesla obviously has a problem here and needs to step up.

Buying a used Model S, 400kms to closest service center... Thoughts plz

The recall letter I got made no mention of mileage limitations; this is now a recall, not a warranty item, so I don't believe mileage or age of the vehicle matter. I'm happy to be proved wrong if you have other info. Those who needed or chose to do the repair prior to the recall can claim to...

Buying a used Model S, 400kms to closest service center... Thoughts plz

Bear in mind there's a recall now for MCU1, if (when) it fails it shouldn't cost anything to replace. There are also service/sales centers opening in Saskatoon and Edmonton, I think Saskatoon might already be open. I'm not sure where you are, but if Vanvouver is further than Calgary, I'm...

    Non-SpaceX Launch Videos

It bugs me that their telemetry is in miles per hour and feet AGL, for some reason.

What is this that broke and is this common on Model S?

File a NHTSA report to go along with the growing number of these, maybe they will order a recall as it seems they should.

Winter handling Subaru vs dual-motor model Y

Funny, my S is better in the snow than any of my 3 Outbacks or my Legacy wagon before that. It might be something that has changed over the years, different motors in the Y than my S, etc. One thing you do need to watch is your Tesla is way heavier than your Subaru, so you do need to slow down...

    NASA Chief Jim Bridenstine

As a non-American I don't have any vested interests in the politics, but as someone who has avidly followed the US (and Canadian) space program since I was old enough to read, I find his decision to be a classy move if somewhat disappointing. He did seem to be doing a really good job contrary...
