Open Vehicle Monitor System (OVMS) - Technical Discussion

I have the same experience with the end of charging notification indicating a strange value for kWh when the amount is very low. For example, Last night the car charged for 3 minutes at a low rate (I hadn't driven it since the previous day). It started and stopped on its own as expected. The...

Safely trickle charge a bricked pack in/out of car - solution

To clarify (what I think you meant to say), it balances after it finishes charging if the SOC is high enough. They changed the firmware in 2011 so it would balance at the end of a std mode charge. It never balances during charge. It sounds like you have a misunderstanding of the balancing...

    My latest mod pix

Probably with carbon fiber cutting tools. You can make pretty clean and accurate cuts with carbide-grit cutting wheels on rotary tools. If you need to follow a line you can often use a very small circular saw (3"blade) with a fence clamped on the part.

    My latest mod pix

It's interesting to reflect on the evolution of custom car modifications, particularly engine bays. A lot of hot-rods had part or all of their hoods removed to expose the engine which was usually accented with shiny parts and colorful paint. A number of high-end mid-engine sports cars have had...

    Today's Roadster Orphan

I enjoy hearing those memories. Today I met an original Roadster owner in my community and we both shared stories from the "old days" about how we discovered Tesla, early ownership experiences, etc. We're both very busy people but we took the time to listen to each other's stories and loved it!

    Late-2010 Roadster 2.5 - Twilight Blue - Original Owner

If I was looking for a Roadster I would buy this one. Like you said it has some very practical options/features and you don't see many 2.5s.

Need soft top or hard carbon fiber top

The padded hard top storage bag was $500 on Tesla's web site for several years before they ran out and removed it from the site. I'm not sure what you mean by a "service record." Did you purchase one at a store or service center? Maybe they had a different price if you picked it up vs shipped?

Is it normal for the wall connector cable to get hot @80 amps?

Actually it's much better to perform a lot of small charging sessions than one large session, given the same number of miles traveled. @nwdiver summed it up nicely in his post. One of the factors that contributes to cell breakdown is the volume of expansion and contraction of the Li particles...

2010 Roadster 2.5 shaking at high speeds

I agree with hanknum. Did the person who changed your tires check to see if the wheels were true? My Roadster is very stable and smooth at high speed. The only time it wasn't was after I hit a pothole and put a tiny wobble in the rim. It was only off by a little bit but you could feel it. I had...

    Roadster 3.0

I'm having a hard time believing the PEM design does not have enough cooling capacity. I'm leaning strongly on the theory that something is wrong with your specific PEM or your cooling system. I can't see any reason why the new pack would create heat at a higher rate in the PEM than the previous...

Need Three More JdeMO Orders--Can We Count on You?

This idea has been explored and may still have potential. A guy in Austria has already done this at 11 kW. He was rectifying 3-ph AC and then inverting it to single phase AC. This is really useful in Europe because most charging stations are 3-phase and the Roadster can only use one of them...

Electric RC Airplane, Helicopter, Boat and Car Hobbyists

I’ve charged off the 12v battery several times without any problems. Then again my RC models aren’t that big. Today I charged a 13v 2amp-hr battery 3 times. Then I charged a 6v 4.5 amp-hr Pb battery but it was at least half full before I started. I opened the doors multiple times during these...

    Lyndon Vermont Supercharger Location

If it’s the closest one to where you live then you’ll probably never use it. Well, OK if you don’t have charging at home or work then you might need it. But if that’s the case I probably wouldn’t buy an EV. In other words, don’t let the status of this supercharger effect your decision to buy a...

    Roadster 3.0

I was curious about that, too. I wonder if that's the date that it was removed from another vehicle before refurbishing. Tesla isn't building any new PEMs and they've had an ongoing shortage of PEMs so it's not likely to be the year it was upgraded or rebuilt.

    Roadster 3.0

I had to notify Tesla of my intent to exercise the contract by June 2021. I waited as long as I could and let them know in May. Any early Roadsters with the original battery?

I'm going to guess that they will use all the individual sheets to repair original battery packs. Then they will take the case and use it to build another 3.01 pack. Just a guess.

Any early Roadsters with the original battery?

Today marked a big day in the life of my Roadster. I drove it almost 200 miles (on one charge) to the service center to have its original battery replaced. Most of the drive was interstate highway at 67mph. Despite that I beat the rated range by almost 10 miles. To answer the question in this...

    Roadster 3.0

I brought my car in today for a 3.0 battery. I purchased the replacement program when my Roadster was new. Another label said the CAC was 215; minSOC was 25.6; maxSOC was 35.6. My original battery is in pretty good shape. CAC is 138.12 and charged up to 210 miles after settling (range mode)...

    Roadster needs to be charged

8 months ago is not that bad. More than likely it can be revived but you're not going to do it with a 240v charger. You need to have special equipment. I strongly recommend @ML Auto 's advice - ship it to somebody who knows how to bring it back to life.

    Articles re Tesla—Fact or Fiction?

Most Annoying Little Things About My Teslas

Yes, that's what he's saying. @chrisro described it accurately as well as @X.l.r.8. The difference is big enough that the plastic sheet frames and cooling tubes require difficult modifications. Roadster 3.0

The high cutoff voltage is not the problem. They were able to change that by modifying a small board in the PEM for the 3.0 cells. The issue is the low voltage. Anyone else concerned/feeling short changed taking delivery on the new Model 3/Y?

Took delivery of a new Model Y last week and I've driven it 480 miles so far. About 100 miles of that was at night in the rain. We also have a '18 M3 (long range, dual motor, just like the new Y except the 3 has radar). The Y appeared to perform as good or better than the 3 in the rain using...

    Tesla Roadster motor

Have you looked at the specs for heat dissipation? The motor can't produce 288hp for very long before it overheats. You might be able to take off and climb for a minute or two before reducing output to 50 - 100hp for several minutes to cool off. It probably has a better horsepower to weight...

    Type2 charge cable conversion

I've now been assigned a SA so I'll ask him. Given the fact that multiple service centers exist that are much closer, it seems like they would have offered them if they were a possibility.
