Driver assistance not working and eventual breakdown

Tesla is becoming more and more mainstream, and as that happens, there will be fewer and fewer people obsessively researching it prior to delivery (and hence members on TMC). So it is expected that there will be more first-time posters complaining of an issue. But for every one of these, there...

    Model X Winter Experience

I wonder if a protective layer that sheds mud would help prevent snow/mud build-up on the inner wheel well? Next time I clean my car, I'll try to spray one of the wheel wells to see if it makes a difference.

    Laser Parking Assist

I would point the laser through your windshield, and look for it on your dash. You will get some refraction as it goes through the windshield (and maybe some ghosting too) but it's all relative, so it doesn't matter.

    Buy P100D now or wait?

If I've said it once, I've said it a hundred times. Don't buy a Tesla until they release the Mr Fusion Battery Upgrade.

    X75D

My brother has an original RWD 85 and he has significantly more range than my P90D. I would think X75 would be far worse. If you can afford the 100D, I recommend it.

    Origin book by Dan Brown

Using "halogen" was done on purpose. It was done to symbolize the disconnect between the protagonist and automobiles. ;)

    TACC in stop-and-go traffic

IMO, brake lights should not be used in AP because it is a low-quality input which doesn't provide any feedback on how hard the car in front is braking. Since Tesla is equipped with RADAR, its a much better sensor to determine braking speed and Tesla should simply keep it's speed within a few...

    Winter tires for Model X

Some SC will sell you Nokian tires on Tesla rims. I only know one so far, but I assume others exist.

Picked up X last night and...

The only reason why Model-X was in the middle pack a year ago is due to lack of data. Model-X reliability has been generally getting better. Tesla occasionally make some changes that temporarily lower the reliability, but eventually resolve the issues.

Road trip w/ trailer - Toronto, Wyoming (off road), Utah, Toronto

Great video, thanks for sharing! My only comment is that I would have driven through that puddle. The battery pack is supposed to be completely sealed, so you would be safe. There are videos of people driving through deeper water (see below) and Elon did once tweet that the car should float...

    Model X Winter Experience

Correct, I did not mean to infer that full-regen is less safe. Tesla has some of the best traction control I've ever seen and it's drives amazingly in slick conditions. The only thing I'm not 100% sure yet (because I haven't had an opportunity to try it) is how full regen works in icy...

    Model X Winter Experience

This is a very personal question and depends on your location. However, if you are someplace that experiences ice/snow for more than one or two months a year, then I would most definitely get winter tires (no brainer). If you only get 1-2 days of ice/snow every year, then all seasons may be...

    Center Console Screen Black

I assume when you press the brake, it does not wake the car? Does the Instrument Cluster (IC) power up? Could be a loose connection to the main screen. Warmer temperatures may fix it, or a trip to the SC. If you can get the heater going to raise the cabin temperature, it may help it along...

    Teslafi and apparent insomnia

Car not sleeping could be a symptom of another problem. For example, if the 12V battery is not holding it's charge, its constantly up to recharge. Or if it's in the middle of a OTA download, it may forgo sleep altogether. I suspect that there is some AI learning involved to determine when to...

Model X where is rearview mirror light sensor?

This camera cover should be able to just cover the sensor and hence minimize the obstruction. Easily removable if you want to leave it off during the day.

    Key protection

I too got the aluminum case and love it. I feel like there is less chance of me closing doors on myself. I bought 2 TopFit models, but afterwards I found a cheaper model that looks just as good (haven't tried it). I haven't had any issues with the fobs while in the case (for past 2 months)...

    Model X Buy Back

I agree that the above scenario may not pass the smell test. The point I'm trying to make is that I don't believe that the above scenario is realistic. Firstly, Tesla will not give a full refund, they will buy back at a significantly reduced rate and one will likely need to negotiate...

    Model X Buy Back

There are 3 cases here: (a) Returning car via lemon law (b) Tesla buying back car as "a lemon" or buy-back guarantee (c) selling the car privately With regards to (a) or (b), again, it's out of the owner's control. For (a) either Tesla or an arbitrator will need to determine if the car is a...

    Model Xmas

I have the same rack and used it to carry home a xmas tree a month ago. That's all I've used it for so far, as I prefer to have a hitch-mounted box/bag to carry my snowboards. If I had x-country skis, I would probably need to do the same thing, as they would probably be too long for the bag/box.

    Model X Buy Back

I'm not a lawyer nor am I interested in tax law, but I just wanted to add that not all cars are lemons. It's not like people can go out and deliberately buy a lemon to take advantage of the tax credit. A number of conditions (outside the owner's control) has to come together for this situation...

    Who gets the garage!?

Where is your charging? The X probably has less range, so may need to charge more often. I would put the vehicle that is driven further/less range in the garage (assuming that the charging is done in the garage).

Not quite as dramatic, but in the same vein... Used the digger to dig a trench for a retaining wall. Filling with diesel. I hear this will be Elon's next electrification project.

    BlackVue DR750S-2Ch Install Question

I used a 10" long thick cable-tie that I had lying around and tied a string to it. I fished the string through the hard plastic piece. Once I had the string in there, I tied the blackvue cable to the other end and fished the cable through. It worked great and eliminated one really hard step.

Vendor Tesla Model X tire service jack pad adapter

I don't see how the hole depths is a problem? Just ensure that it fits the smaller hole depth and you're fine. I found that my custom built jack pad works for both S and X. And with regards to the magnet, I'm not sure if the jacking location is steel or aluminum. If it's aluminum, then...

Is it worth it - Lost Credit Card in centre console

    Model X Crash

If I place my laptop bag on the passenger seat, I get a "Passenger AirBag Off" notification on the console. So, if there is no passenger, I wouldn't expect the airbag to deploy.

    Shattered lift window

Yes, I have set Controls > Settings > Safety & Security > Alarm > On. Yet, I've never managed to trigger the alarm. I don't have the "Tilt/Intrusion" setting, which would have been nice. I find it strange that Europe gets these extra features (probably legislated) and Tesla chooses to leave...

    Shattered lift window

Hi Tam, Where did you get this information? I would love to have the European functionality, but at this point I don't even have the NA functionality. Maybe because all Canadians are polite and respectful, Tesla decided not to activate the alarm system in Canada? I have left the driver's...

    Shattered lift window

I agree! It's just that I haven't been able to trigger my car alarm with the following: hitting the windshield/side-window with my hand bouncing the front suspension by pushing up/down on the hood. leaving window opened and reaching in to open the door I don't want to damage my vehicle, so I...

    Shattered lift window

Sorry to hear about your damage. To me it looks like an impact at the driver-side top corner of the window. Not only is there glass missing there, but the fracture lines seems to radiate out from that point. My guess is that a rock or some hard object hit this window. Did you piss off any...

    MUD FLAPS

What we need is retractable mudflaps. With a flip of a switch, you can engage them to offer protection on gravel roads. They should also automatically retract when above a certain speed (to reduce drag). Who's up for the challenge?

    Air Suspension needs service

I have had 3 such incidents (air suspension needs service) occur and in my case all three appear to have been software issues, even though I wasn't able to raise/or lower suspension for a brief period of time (10-30 minutes). The first time I had this issue, I heard some really bad noises from...

Resolution? Defective Paint, Trim & Glass NEW Model X

Just because Teslas rolling off the line today have less than perfect alignment, it doesn't mean that future Teslas can't be perfect. Using the techniques of William Deming, I'm sure Tesla can get tolerances down to the same level as Japanese cars. There is no reason why it can't be done in...

    Homelink setup failure

Thanks for verifying. But I don't think this is a bug, I think it's intentional. When in Reverse, the count-down will not occur to prevent the situation of reversing into a closing garage door. This change was made around June/July 2017.

    date biodefense mode became available

Model-X has always had the option for biodefense mode, but it had to be ordered with the car. For a short time, Tesla provided an after-purchase upgrade, but has since removed that from their on-line store. The Model-S could have bioweapons mode as an option ever since the front facia...

I also keep a first-aid kit, scissor jack, lug wrench, tire plug repair kit, compressor, tire slime kit, seat covers (for when I'm muddy), folding aluminum shovel + ice-scraper/brush + traction pads (in winter), battery jump-charger, tow hitch, UMC + CHademo, cleaning supplies, etc. Mostly...

How to remove the center module?

I was doing some wiring last weekend and found a receipt in that location. I had removed the carpet/panel on the driver side and was able to see the receipt and extract it with tweezers. Not sure if this would work for you, but just something to consider.

Model X 90kWh battery pack degradation

OP, two things to consider: Range is provided as an estimate. It uses average voltage measurements and runs it through an algorithm. This estimate can become "off" as times goes on You can "reset" the algorithm by driving the X down as close to 0% as you feel comfortable and then charge back up...
