If you've ever driven a stick shift, regen is quick to get used to.
I wonder why it disengages at around 5 mph. Regenning to a full stop and then automatically engaging brake hold might take a little practice, but would be a nice option.
While I'm in your 99% category and way past being a Millennial, my observations, at least in the SF Bay Area, is that there are way more than 1% of similar-looking new cars on the road. And those driving them appear clearly skewed toward the Millennials.
That's not to say the drivers chose...
Yes. From my April Fools' collection of threads.
(And it does actually work. But really; don't do this. AP2 is risky enough with your hands on the wheel).
Right.
But it does seem (to me at least) like there SHOULD be "some" visual indication that a car (yours or someone else's) is charging WHENEVER it is.
No.
A "small" weight (< 1 lb) tricks AP into thinking that your hand is on the wheel. It actually takes quite a bit of force to override AP and take over steering.
Simple test: Try exerting a slight force on one side of the wheel (a finger on a spoke) to see this fool AP into thinking that...
Let's see, 20 pounds is less than 0.5% of a 2 1/2 ton car. While it will make a de minimis difference in acceleration and energy used to get up to highway speeds, it's hard to imagine that it will make any measurable difference once the car is at cruising speed...which is where you'll probably...
I love my MS and I don't want to talk you out of getting one. But as I'm sure you know, it's not the only EV out there that you can plug in at work. And more are coming...
I suggest that you buy the car because you want it...not to save 2%/year of its cost in fuel.
I keep my cars a long time (17-30 years). I keep my computers a long time (3-10 years). As cool as the Model S is, I put it somewhere between a car and a PC in term of practical lifetime.
As the current leader of the free world often states, "I didn't know it could be so complicated."
IMO, AP2 has a LOT to learn about not only courtesy but defensive driving.
And I fear that robust FSD may be way way out there. There are way too many edge-cases that can get you killed. (And...
Not so fast...
I could be wrong, but...I suspect that the main computer knows a lot about the cars' configuration: the battery, motors, options, basically anything that the CAN bus can talk to (which is practically everything electrical). So if you stuck a salvaged computer into your non-free...
Cool. However...
Tesla should have set these up so that you don't back in. It must be depressing to sit in your car and see the ICE cars come and go and come and go while you're still waiting to juice-up.
If this hasn't happened already, I wouldn't be surprised to see "hybrid" gas stations with electric charging stations on the property...maybe even a couple of Superchargers.
A joint relationship with a major oil company is not so farfetched.
And with tons of M3s on the road, Tesla might even...
Looking at Tesla's plans for additional Superchargers, it appears that a number of them will be in metropolitan areas. Not particularly close to major highways.
It's entirely possible that these are actually intended to provide local charging. Local Supercharging should be of particular...
On the factory tour that we took a few years ago, they boasted that Elon set the objective that their new factory paint shop would rival the painting quality of Rolls Royce.
The finish on mine does look pretty good. Durability? Not quite up to RR standards, but not terrible.
No wrap...
You think that's creepy? Leaving work yesterday, my phone message was:
"Traffic is light. Amanda wants you to stop at the market and get some milk and a can of tomato soup. Sandy's at her boyfriend Mike's. She's been there for 2 1/2 hours and both of Mike's parents are still at work. Turbo has...
I hope that this "first" release of AEB to AP2 works better than some of the other early AP2-related releases.
One concern that I have is getting rear-ended if a false positive jams on my brakes.
Some advice to readers and their loved ones:
"Don't tailgate...and in particular, don't tailgate a...
Be careful if it shows one or two stalls open. Cars may be in transition…with a dozen still in the queue.
I've actually seen this at the Mountain View supercharger.
It would be useful to know how many cars are in the queue before choosing to go to a station. Even a live image of the cars lined...
After checking your W/mile energy use over the last 30 miles and your utility rate, this could get you close:
W/mile x $/Wh x 1.2
The 1.2 (my guess) represents losses in charging and vampire juice.
So, if you run 300W/mile and pay $020/kWh, then it costs you about 300 x .2 x 1.2 ~= 7.2 cents...
A related question:
When hill hold is engaged going down a hill, there's a message to push the brake to release it. If you ignore this and just push the throttle, does this stress the brake caliper or the release mechanism? (It's not a smooth release.)
Others more familiar with your path can offer you better advice. I will say that you have two things going for you:
1. With your family in the car, you'll be able to use the diamond carpool lanes (far left lane(s))
2. You'll mostly be going in the "light" traffic direction (away from SF)...
I'm still trying to figure out if there's a way to bypass the regular HEPA filters when the A/C is on.
Sometimes, when you cut a really good one, you want to relish it for a while; or even share it with others in the car. With the HEPA filters, it's often gone before you can take your first sniff.
Not entirely sure of this but …
Refuse delivery. Lose $2500. Reorder to save $2000 and save $1500 on the glass roof (if you ordered it). Then wait again :(
Threatening to do this "could" give you some leverage.
Or look for a new car in stock that's close but reflects a worthwhile cost savings...
Without adding the automatic rear liftgate, it's price is STILL $3,500!
I ordered it on my 90D mainly for the liftgate. For me, the other features were mostly useless or of little value:
Bioweapon filter: I may use this noisy air blaster every year or so when I drive thru the stockyards on...
I'm afraid so.
The wiper motor-gear-train sounds like those on my 40 year old Chevy. In the 21st century, and after being in production for half a decade, there's no excuse for such flawed hardware...especially on an otherwise very quiet luxury car.
Maybe they put their best motor-gear...
Yikes!!! So what cost more; the car or the upgrade? It's REALLY impressive.
I think the Tesla CPO program might have quite a challenge putting it back to stock should you ever decide to trade it in.
If this system sounds half as good as the install looks, I'll bet your local DC AM...
Yes, the "little to no wait" part. It's bad enough that a charge takes more planning and way more time than a gas fill-up, but having to wait 20-40 minutes just to get into a stall on a road trip is not good. And with a lot more Teslas hitting the streets, even less good.
Elon stated something to the effect that the MS and MX would exceed the M3 in virtually all aspects (except, of course, price).
So, the now included glass roof and automatic rear hatch on the MS may be clues that these are also included in the base M3. Maybe. Perhaps. Possibly.
Your guess is as good as mine on this one.
Included for free, but just missing on order page?
Oversight for this option on the order page?
Tesla is still deciding what to do?
Not available because of low expected demand (on the 90D)?
Or????
If it makes you feel any better, the 100D is now $5K more than the 90D. But it does now include the ($1K option) High Amperage Charger. This option is not even shown for the 90D (at least as of 9AM on 4-17).
Such is life...
Tesla may just be trying to use up their 90 KWh battery packs so that...
Besides throwing-in the automatic rear lift gate, it looks like the (near-end-of-life) 90D has dropped $2K.
Of course, as a consolation to most previous buyers, unlimited supercharging is gone on the new ones.(But $2K buys a LOT of $0.20 per KWH Supercharger electrons...at least 25K miles!).
