    Regenerative Braking Behavior Poll

This may be slightly off the topic, but anyone know if setting regen breaking to "low" helps with highway driving at all? I generally get very efficient kw/mi numbers on the highway with standard regen, but I always wondered if it would be even better if I was able to coast more/longer and not...

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

First time I took my car into SC the guy said that I had way too many previous navigation searches and trip data stored and it bogs down the cpu like crazy. He said you have no idea how much data the MCU is really storing for every mile it records in a trip, so when you have a lot saved, it's...

Model S Technical / Mechanical Issues

Ahhhhh, thank you! Well it's not happening 100% of the time now so not sure if the SC will take it seriously if they can't reproduce it :/ Guess I'll just have to see what the car decides to do when I take it there.

Model S Technical / Mechanical Issues

Super weird thing just started happening and I cannot figure out what would cause it...starting today, whenever I unlock my car, the back right door unlatches and opens. I've never seen that happen before and I have been inspecting the latch trying to see if there's anything wrong with...

    EVampedup Console

Sorry probably a dumb question, but does the Qi -wireless version have a bigger pocket or something? Also for the non-lighted version, I assume the usb/qi charger gets its juice from the 12v port?

    Battery info 2013 p85+

What kind of advice are you looking for? Looks like a good deal and the car seems to be in great condition from the pictures! I'd maybe want to know if there's an extended warranty on the car as that can help a lot if you need to get some things fixed/touched up after you buy it.

Model S Technical / Mechanical Issues

Thank you! Soonest appointment I could get at a SC was 2.5 weeks away anyway so good to know I don't need to be worried for now. Appreciate the advice!

    New acceleration noise?

Got a response in the mechanical issues thread about it possibly being battery contactors. Knowing that there's a possible explanation for all these symptoms I'll keep an eye on it and check with a service center in a few weeks.

Model S Technical / Mechanical Issues

Ah...thank you, yikes that doesn't sound great. Is it something that is like an emergency or just something to get checked out when it is next convenient?

Model S Technical / Mechanical Issues

I posted a thread in "driving dynamics" but not sure if here is a better place to ask. My car as of the last few weeks is making a strange high pitch sound coming from the rear motor when hard-accelerating. It is very different than the normal electric-motor-whine. It sounds like a dog whistle...

    New acceleration noise?

I've had my used Model S for 4 months now so I'm still a bit hyper aware of anything that may need to be checked out while I still have warranty (+extended service agreement), so I apologize if this is a dumb question. I recently had my drive unit replaced because it was making the milling...

    Have you noticed better efficiency?

I've seen more of a sudden inexplicable increase in energy usage...I usually am able to drive around town getting 290-320 wh/mi and as of the last 2 weeks I've been at 360-380, even when I drive as efficiently as possible. The only thing different is maybe I have the AC on more often because...

    A/C Compressor Noise

So it's starting to get warm in SoCal and I'm running the AC more often in my car. I noticed a few weeks ago when I'd set the A/C up to 6 or more I'd get this loud buzzing sound coming from the front of the car and kind of vibrating throughout the cabin. It was so loud I thought I was passing a...

2013 in the shop...2018 loaner MS

I just wanted to resurrect this long dead thread to let anyone who was confused by my experience know that I got another 2018 75D loaner for 1 day for a different issue and.........holy crap the difference is HUGE. This loaner and the previous one are the exact same model, this one is 10,000...

    California front plates...

This last weekend I drove my MS up to LA (from San Diego) and back and stopped at 3 different superchargers during that round trip. Each time I did I noticed that probably 80% of the Teslas at these superchargers didn't have front license plates (and they were California cars). Mine stuck out...

Video of BearBu's 360 degree overview in operation

This is pretty freakin awesome. I know I've seen the page for buying BearBu's HDMI interface, and the guides for installing it, but haven't seen exactly where he has instructions on the 4 camera 360 setup. Is there a separate thread about that somewhere?

    Driver/Passenger Climate Controls?

So this may be an extremely dumb question, but my model s is 2013. My climate screen just has 1 temperature setting which, I assume, is for the entire car. I had a loaner model S a few weeks back that was a 2018 and it had separate temp/climate controls for the driver and passenger side. I...

    Seat Covers for Gen1 Seats?

Okay after doing a bit more digging it sounds like options are fairly limited and that it's actually not even recommended to put covers on model S seats. In that case...just curious if anyone has ever had the seats totally replaced? I think unpluggedperformance and tsportline did interior...

What's the best Model S refresh front fascia option

    Seat Covers for Gen1 Seats?

I have Gen1 seats in my MS and I think they are totally fine and comfortable for driving. However....after seeing some Teslas with the new seats, I realize that the Gen1 seats look pretty flat and sad a little compared to the newer seats. Since I assume getting new seats is probably very...

Overwhelmed! Considering a Used Model S

I purchased a sub 40k used Tesla model S and can tell you that older cars are still great. There's no right or wrong things to look out for, it's more what you need/want. I'll go through your questions with some thoughts: 1) Tesla CPO do have an additional limited warranty. Some older cars have...

    Wind noise at 70+mph?

I can't answer for Naonak, but I got this problem fixed by my service center! They re-did the seals around the windows/doors on the driver side and the little triangle window pillar specifically was the main culprit. I have the extended service agreement so it was all covered under that. It's...

    Elon signature home charger

Gotcha, thank you! That's all I really wondered about. I know the technology will evolve, but I didn't know how limited the "signature" chargers were. If it was exceptionally rare or unique I'd pick it up, but not if it's commonplace.

    Elon signature home charger

I currently just charge my car with the mobile charger when I'm at home (I don't want to bother my building manager with the complexity of installing a wall charger), but I found someone selling an unopened Elon- signature home charger for $430 nearby. I don't think I'd honestly use it until I...

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

That's interesting because when I was shopping pre-owned Teslas, one of the sellers I was looking at said they had the MCU upgraded and specifically said it was $2500. I just figured they had it replaced and not upgraded and they just misspoke (or probably got LTE in the new one and assumed that...

2013 in the shop...2018 loaner MS

2013 in the shop...2018 loaner MS

Have you gotten the parking sensors installed Scole04? I was amazed by how much I liked the UI's visualization of the parking distance and stuff in my loaner car. Poll: "Systems are powering up" error message

This has only happened 1x on my 2013 S60 (and it was the one time the whole computer froze up and needed to be rebooted). When I had a loaner 2018 75D for a few days though, it was popping up on the 75D at least 2x a day. Only for a few seconds, but definitely seems like something that happened...

2013 in the shop...2018 loaner MS

I think it's because we have the big center circle speedometer where as the other cars have the autopilot in the center. If we had a circle energy gauge then we'd be seeing the energy expenditure rise/fall in two places on the same screen. I realize it would be redundant but I still think it...

So picked up my car today (whisper quiet with the new drive unit, so happy!), and .... I still can't explain exactly what it is, but it was a thrill to drive home compared to the 75D. I checked it out and nope, not in chill mode, it's in Standard. I think to be clear I definitely don't feel like the car isn't fast or powerful, it's just the feeling of getting up to speed is so smooth you don't feel it in your internal organs like I currently do in my car. I'm not getting...

2013 in the shop...2018 loaner MS

I took my 2013 MS 60 RWD into a service center and they're keeping it for a few days to put in a new drive unit and seals around the windows and such. While it's being worked on they gave me a loaner car. A 2018 S75 (AWD) with only 12,000 miles on it. I have found it fascinating to compare the...

    Unpopular Question

I agree, I've seen people on this forum seemingly furious over things as small as not getting an update as quickly as someone else (even if said update only adds minor non-performance related features). I get that these cars are practically more tech products than anything else, and that makes...

In-car browser to get updated to Chromium!!

Back when I was still searching for pre-owned MS's I saw one 2012 MS where the owner described in the features that they had had the MCU replaced/updated under warranty. They then mentioned that the LTE modem was so much faster. Very likely this person was confused and thought a 3G->LTE upgrade...

In-car browser to get updated to Chromium!!

Oh interesting, I could have sworn I've seen people mention doing it (but it costing like $4.5k). Maybe it was their MCU1 had failed and they had to have one replaced out of necessity? Either way that's helpful to know, thank you!

In-car browser to get updated to Chromium!!

I'm a bit confused what he is referring to. I thought you could already upgrade the MCU if you were willing to pay thousands of dollars for it. Is this some kind of special program for it? Or a new new MCU?

    Vertical vs Horizontal screens

I've always loved the vertical screen in the model S MCU. Something about it is so James-bond-y in how it faces the driver and has so many functions built it. It also just feels very unique to Tesla because where else are you going to find a 17 inch vertical touch screen like that? That said...

    Preowned Tesla

As someone who was in the pre-owned market for a while and finally chose a 2013 MS, here are my few thoughts. 1) Decide if you're going for lowest price, or best features and just saving a few bucks. You can get a 2013 model for so much cheaper than others, and while obviously you want to make...

Service Centers...how do you communicate w/them?

Hmm...maybe San Diego's service center is just significantly busier than others. I called and emailed several times, and whenever I want to make an appointment, the soonest one is usually 3 weeks away :/
